If you won a big lottery. And all is said and done. all the bills are paid.Would you spend on your family frist or yourself? Me family has all ways been first and all ways will.
Next !!! What would you just spend on yourself?
Myself: I would have a totaly green home built In country with a fireplace,4 large bedrooms, 2 large baths, a Large kitchen with everything ( any thing to do with cooking and baking ). Pleanty of room for dogs to run. A Large veg. and flower garden.
And my Sewing wing with Pleanty of Windows.Have to have a longarm, featherwieght, and a treadle. Custmbuilt shelfs, cabnets, cutting table, Sewing stations, iron station. And a large stash and noations to keep me busy the rest of my life.
I know.
In my dreams: But it is nice to dream.

CarrieAnne 06-08-2010 07:21 AM

HHHHHHHHHmmmmmmmmm, first I would buy all my kids a nice house, and college.........
For me, I would stay here and open a rescue shelter for unwanted pets. Always been my dream.....of course I could make quilts to raffle off to help pay for food!
I might have to buy a few more acres, but I would put up nice runs, ect....and take animals except snakes, lol!
Oh, and put up a huge prvacy fence around it, hate unwanted hunters poking around here, lol!

RatherB Quilting 06-08-2010 07:30 AM

Me? I would pay all our bills, pay my Mom's bills, get our house built complete with a grand in-law suite for my mom. The rest might go away for my daughters future.

amma 06-08-2010 07:34 AM

I would pay off the few bills I have, and then put a big chunk in the bank and have some fun with the rest.

A house in the country, acreage, an indoor/outdoor pool. A whole floor devoted to sewing, 5 or 6 extra bedrooms for family or quilting friends

A new rig and travel trailer, I love to travel and my grands love it too :D:D:D

I would also help my kids with getting homes or upgrading and set up trust accounts for my grands educations. We would all take a big family vacation each year to different places :D:D:D

raptureready 06-08-2010 07:42 AM

First of all I would pay my tithe to our church. After that, I'd give all my grown step-children a trust fund that paid out so much a month. I'd set up a trust for my own daughter that would do the same when she became a certain age---not enough for any of them to live on, but enough to enhance the income from their job. Then I'd make a one time only gift to each of my brothers and sisters and each of DH's. With the rest, I'd probably invest a large portion of it. If it was big enough I'd have a new home built where everything was on one level. It would have to have a huge self contained quilting/art room including a kitchenette, 1/2 bath, and sitting area. It would include a state-of-the-art long-arm quilter, sewing machines, cutting tables, storage closets, lighting, and a Murphy bed in case I wanted to rest(I've always thought those were so cool). My new home would also have a basement (Illinois is a tornado state) that would be fully equiped and nice enough to live in for awhile. Basically a separate apartment in it. But the laundry room would be on the main floor. It would also have a large RC room for DH that would be as fully equiped as my sewing room. Our new home would be built to be totally handicap friendly with large walk-in showers. I'd also have a couple to live in another smaller house that would take care of the housekeeping/cooking/gardening/pool/maintenance, etc.

amandasgramma 06-08-2010 07:43 AM

I've thought a lot about this.....but always forget to buy "THE" ticket!!!!

I'd pay off bills, give children and parents enough money to pay off their homes and/or buy one (each would get same amount), plus give them enough money to play with, set up a trust fund for grandkids, then I'd blow the rest!!! LOL

Elly 06-08-2010 07:47 AM

I would build the best Quilting Retreat Center Ever! Complete with a fabric shop!

This is after my family and bills are taken care of. I would live onsight and run the show!!

ginnie6 06-08-2010 08:01 AM

well our bills would be paid...the house finished and sold and we'd buy a place in the country. Then we'd put some aside for college for all the kids. Then dh and I would get a few new toys. he'd have to have a tractor and I'd get an awesome sewing room with tons of fabric and thread.

It's already been done! It's called Threads of Time in Danville, Illinois. They have an attached retreat center called Threads and Beds. I was just on an overnighter there at a Carol Doak lecture/workshop.
http://www.threadsoftimefab.com
So if you're ever near East Central Illinois or West Central Indiana, drop on in and check them out. They'd love to have you. There's an open retreat from 3pm Sunday to 1pm Thursday every other month. The next one is in July. You can come for as many of those nights as you want at $35 a night (you only have to provide your own food, sewing projects and clothing) or $15 if you just want to go for the day. They even put a chocolate on your bed for you. It's only about an 1 West of Indianapolis airport.

I love to dream and everthing sounds good....but I just never buy the tickets. Maybe I should dream about buying ticket and win big.

That sounds almost exactly like my sons MIL's house. Her sewing room is above the 2 1/2 car garage with a bathroom. Her sewing stuff doesn't even make a dent in it.

She and her sister custom built this house with their own "wings" plus kitchen made for cooking (her sister is almost like a chef and she is really into baking) She has 2 ovens, 2 dishwashers etc. Plus they have a sunroom and wrap around porches.

I love it, but I also love the fact that my little house is almost paid for!

Me I'd settle for all my bills and family's bills paid and enough money to buy something I see without worrying about having enough money to pay for it.

I would also like to give a huge donation to the Special Olympics and to the organizations that care for the Down's and special needs people. My brother has Down's and AZ is cutting off all of his aid!

sueisallaboutquilts 06-08-2010 08:48 AM

Every time someone mentions the lottery my first thought is this:
I would want someone to put fresh sheets on my bed daily.
I would want a massage at least once daily.

That's it!!

Of course, I would help all my family, and donate a HUGE chunk to animal welfare :D
And a lot of what the rest of you posted but that would come after the above lolololol

It's funny that you should ask that just now. This is what I was looking at yesterday.

Marjpf 06-08-2010 08:52 AM

After all the bills are paid, and the kids have their own homes, I would want to buy a house or apartment in various places in the world and then spend lots of time traveling, but still have a "home" base, instead of hotels. If it is really the big one that I hit, my own plane and yacht for traveling on!

Boston1954 06-08-2010 08:55 AM

Oh, I forgot to mention, that if it was REALLY the big one, all that would be on about 22 acres......

sueisallaboutquilts 06-08-2010 08:58 AM

Hey Boston- can't you just picture a huge quilter's retreat there?? If the answer is YES, can I come??? :D:D:D:D

mayday 06-08-2010 09:10 AM

Pay off vet bills of www.englishtoyspanielrescue.org , get more regular help [am disabled] and buy every ETS deemed to be in need.
Buy a house to let at v low rent to friends.
Give husband enough for future motors.
Travel more. BUT most of all IF money could buy health would do without above as I could do more myself and work part -time.

Oh, baby!! You may not believe this, but I was thinking that last night. I was picturing myself inviting everyone close enough, to come on over. Now.......how close do you live to Danbury, Connecticut? Because if it ever happens, that is where I will be living.

granniebj 06-08-2010 09:43 AM

Of course see that my parents, kids, and siblings were taken care of.
For me....another place in the country. Ours is all trees, and I would like an area for a barn. Definitely a horse! Plenty of bedrooms, dream sewing room. The usual. lol

Pineapple Princess 06-08-2010 09:47 AM

Hmm, pay off my parent's house, go to college, and save the rest for one day buying my own place. :)

Distance doesn't matter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can stop in NY and see my Mom on the way!!!!!!!!!
Just goes to show you how we think alike on this board!!! :D

The dream of my DH and I -
Build a retreat for ministers and their families who are suffering burn out.(Also for other church officials, elders deacons and such).
We would also like to have a home for unwed (cast out) mothers to be, and I want to incorporate quilting and sewing with all of it.
To teach young girls to sew and quilt and cook and other basic things of life. Plus parenting classes, continuing education for them, maybe have the minister's families helping with the girls.....
We are actually working on the process, but still much in our dreams as funding is ...... not in our hands at the moment.

What a wonderful dream!!!!!!!! You could affect the lives of so many, just think about it! :D HUGS, Sue
PS. And here I am thinking about sheets and massages !!!!

canmitch1971 06-08-2010 11:04 AM

First of all I would pay off my daughter's farm and buy my son a property. Then I would buy myself a house or condo on the river here where I live. I would take a trip to France and Hungary where my husband and my ancestors come from. Last and not least, I would take another trip to Fiji where I have always wanted to go to before I die.

Sandysue 06-08-2010 11:25 AM

Hi

i have thought of this and concluded, yes, my family would come first... kids would have trust funds for college and an allowance for life :D
I would like to buy up a few of the empty houses around here and set up rent free long term leases for some of the homeless and/or struggling families in the area. (basically giving the homes back to a few families that lost them when the banks foreclosed on them)

Build our own that is fully handicapped accessible, with a HUGE bathtub (1 we have now would probably fit 4 people, and im addicted to it :D)
As for me... I want my very own, fully stocked quilt shop (not open to the public) complete with machines ill ever need (basic, serger, embroidery, quilting, treadle etc)

and 1 quilting buddy, that never notices if i dont bother getting dressed out of my jammies or brush my hair (i will however promise to always brush my teeth. lol) and will always give an honest answer about what im making... ok, i cant buy her, but can i bribe her? lol

Maksi 06-08-2010 11:44 AM

I would buy a quiltshop, and next to the quiltshop a quilt retreat home with a large swimmingpool behind. In that way I can take care of my family, take care of all my quiltfriends and have my own quiltshop! Wow that would be awesome!

Sandysue 06-08-2010 11:47 AM

Thank you QuiltingGrannie, I will do that.
Sandy

quilting memaw 06-08-2010 01:47 PM

WOW! I would go talk to my sister in law....she is a CPA. Pay the taxes. Then I would go to the church...and give a nice donation. Then I would pay for both of kids that want a better education. Get them each a modest home. Then I would sell our home and rebuild a Victorian home like what we want with a big pole barn so Jim can build his furniture that he likes to make. AND....then open up a quilt shop. Have fabrics for every priced range. Not just the 10$ stuff. I would serve coffee and tea to. Then Jim and I would go on a vacation/honeymoon that we have never had. And make a good donation to the Humane Shelters in our area. Can't forget our furry friends.

Aurora 06-10-2010 06:28 AM

I have no idea until it happens, then I will play it by ear.

Ripped on Scotch 06-10-2010 06:43 AM

We have discussed this actually... we would give each of our siblings & parents some, pay off what we need to payoff and then invest the rest.

A long arm is an investment right?

Scissor Queen 06-10-2010 06:45 AM

The first thing I would do is set up a huge family scholarship fund. That way any of my decendants could go to college long after I'm gone.

Then I'd pick a place to live and build a huge retreat center.

littlehud 06-10-2010 07:24 AM

I would get my girls homes of their own and new cars. I would buy my sis (she is going through a divorce right now and is devastated) a home of her own and would pay off my Dads house. I would build a home for myself with a small apartment or house one the grounds for my handicapped son. (He would be on his own, but still close enough for my help) My house wouldn't have to be big but would have a quilting studio and a long arm set up. I would set up a trust fund so my DGD can go to collage. I wouldn't have to work so she will never go to day care again. Sigh. But for right now I'm happy with my life and if I never win all is OK.

brushandthimble 06-10-2010 07:35 AM

DH and I always said after our bills and the kids bills were paid we would set up a scholorship fund at the special ed school our son went to.

After that, then we would start playing

walen 06-10-2010 07:42 AM

First, if there was enough money, we would retire. Next, I would pay off my son's house. If there was money remaining, I would build our dream place in the country with lots of room for DH dogs and a fully equipped studio for me.

Sigh...nice to dream!

keesha_ont 06-10-2010 03:01 PM

Ok - if any of you win....I'm your long lost relative...

Chasing Hawk 06-10-2010 03:11 PM

Pay bills, pay the house off.
Stash a bunch in cans all over the place........LOL...........j/k

Buy a few toys, put money aside for the grand babies college funds.

Martina 06-10-2010 03:12 PM

After arguing with my husband how the money will be spend...lol...I would set up all my kids with their own house and trust....then I would probably argue some more with my husband on how the house we want to build should look like, and what to do with our old one...lol....Maybe I should be thinking more on how to avoid these arguments ( I make it sound really bad...but we don't really argue that much because I usually get my way lol), then thinking about the spending....lol....I do know, that I would have a huge sewing room......maybe I should keep the old house for that purpose.....hmmmmmmmmm that's something to think about....lol
