I'm not able to be near my sewing machine lately, so I needed a portable craft. I signed up for a beginning knitting class on craftsey.com. So far I am just working on knitting and purling. It seems like a good class so far.

I crochet practically every day. For a really good group of people - like here, on our dear Quilting Board - - go to www.crocheville.org. You can find anything and everything there and all the help you'll need.

I do both knitting and crocheting but knitting is my favorite as when I knit it's usually something to wear for others or myself. Knitting is a close second hobby to quilt making for me. Great relaxer, great totable hobby as it makes 'wait' time pass quickly. I was taught the basics of both when I was very young and have been self-taught since then. I've since moved on to circular needles for all my knitting and wouldn't invest in anything else now. Circulars are much more totable and legal than straight needles. Stay with either of these two hobbies and you'll never regret it. Knittting hats for babies/preemies and/or those less fortunate than yourself is a great way to get experience plus helping others.

here is a board that looks like a "sister" to our quilting board that I have found really helpful:

YES, I found Knitting Paradise a while back when I was thinking about getting back into knitting.....being a "new" quilter and am overwhelmed at all the details, I decided that I wanted to knit for a while and not have to stress out over it ! I was so excited that Knitting Paradise is so much like the OLD QB......so easy to navigate and seems like you can make a closer connection to those that blog on there.
I wasn't a part of QB when Konstatin (sp?) was involved but I don't really care...I think a human need has been fulfilled in this type board rather than one that has so many restrictions and such a huge learning curve. Now, don't be sending me a message about how easy it is to navigate I don't really care.....I'm older, have a lot of health issues, not computer savvy and only want an easy board to navigate whether it is knitting or quilting ! |
