A little test about how you talk.

I took this test as did my husband.

My dialect was mainly from the DFW area in Texas.
His was in the Riverside/Corona area in Southern Cali.

See where you land......

This was too wild!

I lived in the Denver area for 20 years and in the Omaha area for around 5 years...all while I was growing up and early adulthood. I haven't lived there in over 20 years yet it indicated the exact areas I was from.

I've lived in Kentucky for over 20 years and others tell me I don't sound like I'm from the south. These were right on for me...pretty wild for sure.

Annaquilts 12-25-2013 11:34 AM

Hmmm Bay area of California. I never lived there.

lynnie 12-25-2013 11:35 AM

said I come from yonkers ny, or the tri state area. I come from long island, the little fishy island off of new york

quiltsRfun 12-25-2013 11:43 AM

I landed right where I am - Salt Lake City. I've lived in Utah all my life so that makes sense.

grannie cheechee 12-25-2013 11:51 AM

Mine said Rockford, IL, Wichita, KA, and Aurora, IL.. LOL I'm originally from Iowa. Its all Midwest. It was fun taking the test, thanks Chasing Hawk.

GrammaNan 12-25-2013 11:54 AM

My husband was told he was from either Denver or Albuquerque. He lives in the Denver area (with me) and was raised in Albuquerque (where I met him). Two of my kids took it and was told exactly where they live. I, on the other hand, was told that I either lived in Lincoln, NE Omaha NE or Wichita KS. I haven't ever been to any of these places. It was fun though!

quiltingcandy 12-25-2013 12:10 PM

All three if mine were off - Salt Lake City, Spokane and Millwaukie. And I was born in Wellington KS, grew up in Seattle WA and have lived in San Diego CA area for over 40 years.

ptquilts 12-25-2013 12:27 PM

It was very accurate for me as well (Boston area). I remember, many years ago, seeing a quiz in Yankee Magazine that would narrow it down to what part of New England you came from. For instance, is it a pancake, a johnnycake, or a flapjack?

Kitsie 12-25-2013 01:04 PM

That was fun! Thanks!

jbj137 12-25-2013 01:30 PM

Wanted to take the test,
BUT

my browzer is an older XP &
out-of-date.

Won't let me see it.

cathyvv 12-25-2013 01:42 PM

NY/NJ/Philie.

KLO 12-25-2013 02:15 PM

I got the same results as cathyvv (although I spell it Philly) but then that is where I am originally from. Now to test my DH.

Sandra in Minnesota 12-25-2013 02:22 PM

It put me right where I am supposed to be - Mpls-St. Paul. Lived here 68 years. Wonder how they can tell??? lol

toverly 12-25-2013 02:45 PM

Showed me in the deep South, Baton Rouge, Jackson and Birmingham. No surprise there, grew up NE MS, live on the Gulf Coast.

Gaijin 12-25-2013 02:46 PM

It told me that I was upstate New York with some Illinois thrown in.
Exactly the two places I lived the longest when I was in the States.
When I visit my parents, sometimes I shake my head at the way
people there pronounce some of their words!

Gaijin

DogHouseMom 12-25-2013 03:09 PM

It pegged me in either Minneapolis/St Paul, Grand Rapids, or Rockford IL.

I grew up in a suburb of Chicago.

Not sure if people in Rockford sound like Chicagoians.

mighty 12-25-2013 03:40 PM

Fun Thank you!

GKSM 12-25-2013 03:49 PM

Fun test. Mine is Boston, Worcester, Rhode Island. I grew up in Massachusetts so that makes sense.

nativetexan 12-25-2013 04:37 PM

Ha, ha. service road and 18 wheeler I learned from my Husband and he's from Wyoming. It said I sounded like someone from Mississippi or Alabama . Not. I'm from Texas! Ya'll does come out at times. and I pronounce Been as been. they didn't give me choice to click on that one. odd. and of course I say Aunt like ant! just like my dictionary tells me to.

ube quilting 12-25-2013 05:08 PM

Thanks, that was fun. They nailed me!

Belfrybat 12-25-2013 05:23 PM

Interesting test, but it was way off for me. Had me live in Jackson, Birmingham, and Montgomery. I was born in England, and have lived in New Jersey, Virginia, Georgia, Oklahoma, and Texas.

QuiltnNan 12-25-2013 05:28 PM

mine said yonkers, new york city, new jersey. i don't talk at all like folks from that area

Jackie Spencer 12-25-2013 07:46 PM

Mine said Lincoln Nebraska, was born and raised in Iowa, but have not lived there since the early 1980's

cashs_mom 12-25-2013 07:58 PM

Mine showed the parts of the country that I've never been in and my family never lived in

frustratedquilter40 12-25-2013 08:25 PM

wow it says the Salt Lake, St Paul and Grand Rapids are matching most for my answers.

I was born in Oneonta NY lived there 9-10 years of my childhood but have lived the other 34 yrsin Hillsboro, OR very interesting

Grandma Bonnie 12-25-2013 08:44 PM

For me it said Rockford, IL - Wichita, KS - Stockton, CA. I've lived in central IL my entire life!

Lisa Marie 12-25-2013 08:52 PM

That was fun thanks for sharing.

Cindy1Ohio 12-25-2013 09:13 PM

It gave me 3 cities to choose from, one in Michigan, one in Illinois, and Toledo, Ohio. I'm from Toledo, where we drink pop!

SSK 12-25-2013 09:55 PM

Mine was spot on,amazing!

pennycandy 12-25-2013 10:54 PM

Spot on for me. Matter of fact the whole state was the deepest red shade.

Cagey 12-25-2013 11:09 PM

very interesting. And very close to the area I was raised. Thanks for sharing

JustAbitCrazy 12-26-2013 02:22 AM

Thanks, Chasing Hawk, that was fun! It nailed me.

Me too = I'm from Brooklyn, NY

youngduncan 12-26-2013 04:26 AM

Pegged me as being Deep South, though I spent all of my life living throughout Texas and many, many years in southeast Arkansas. We're back in the Houston area now. Maybe I've just watched too much television in my almost seventy years!! Or maybe I like playing with language and sounds too much. Anyway, the test was a lot of fun to take.

Yooper32 12-26-2013 04:48 AM

I got Milwaukee, Rockport and Salt Lake City. Milwaukee would be the closest for a Yooper who grew up in lower MI, but whose tap-root is in the UP.

jitkaau 12-26-2013 05:09 AM

I found that fun to do - they said NYC, Providence or Worcester, which is interesting considering my address. I've visited all those places and of course the accent is nothing like mine. At least we understood each other, and that is what mattered. Thanks for the fun.

lockesnest 12-26-2013 05:14 AM

I would say the teat results are none too accurate. It indicated Omaha for me. I am from southern California. However, both of my parents were raised in eastern Kansas. Perhaps that is the influence.

jbingwell 12-26-2013 05:38 AM

Spot on for me. A few years ago, while traveling, we were in the deep south. I'd gone into a store and was thinking how differently people in that area talked. I said something to the clerk and she said "Where you from? You have an odd accent"

coopah 12-26-2013 05:46 AM

My, oh, my! What a hoot! I grew up (21 years) in NW PA. After I married, we spent about 8 more years in the eastern part of the USA. Then it was CA and WA state for 23 more years. This shows me as being Midwest, so I guess that's what happens when one mixes east and west! A lot of fun! Thanks, Chasing Hawk!
