I would hate to see you paint either of them orange, if the paint is in good condition I would leave them white. Orange was not a color chioce when these were made.

We have an old fridge (used for beer)at the cottage which our daughters painted red! Very cool! Cant find the photo.
The condition is not as good as yours.
I believe that freon gas is an issue with some of these fridges and Hydro Electric pay people to take them away.
We love it.
Enjoy.

How cool is that! My Mom and Dad had one of those when I was a kid!

Billy Great find! I am looking to buy a small home with all those original 40's style metal streamlined cabinets! What's left of them are being ripped out in favor of ..gulp..cherry and granite!

I rented an apartment a looong time ago that had a hulking aqua colored fridge. It had half moon copper colored shelves that spun on a center pole. It was chill in every
sense of the word. What's inside yours shelf-wise? Can you elaborate on the 1951 fixation?

Aww Billy-

I think it matches Buttercup, my 1948 Chambers range. And you should send her to me.....

Our house was built in '56 and we bought it from the original owner last year. The kitchen and baths were intact, as is the sandblasted and varnished knotty pine paneling in the den. We love it. We did have to replace an ugly 70's stove with Buttercup, but the fridge is new.

Its in perfect condition but it would look a lot better the thing was painted Orange to match the other appliances. I only use automotive paint so its not like I am going to be going to Kmart and buying a bunch of spray cans.

Plus I can not leave anything alone, a BMW isnt suppose to have the drive line out of a Corvette, but my 2002 328i is getting just that right now.

When I restored my house the former owner had already pulled everything out of the kitchen and put all new in. I redid the bathrooms and got rid of the Pink and Green tiling and went back with something more modern but the kitchen would look really good with the orange stove and icebox. I like the blend of 1950's and the more modern upgrades.

Here is my bathroom.....

KitchenAid makes modern appliances that look old fashioned, but I don't think they have that model. It would be nice if they could put new-age technology into that look, since those old appliances are so power greedy and inefficient while they look so neat. Here in BC there's a huge movement to making our homes more energy efficient which then becomes cost effective and keeps us greener.

Nothing wrong with the new old fridge, but think of the electricity it will be using. The newer ones are very much more efficient - more "earth-friendly" as it were.
