I drive my husband crazy! I even say thank- you to the cops directing traffic, when crossing, while in downtown CLEVELAND for an event! it's their job. BUT I'M THANKFUL, that they help me NOT get runover! LOL!!

Always say thank you, as well as someone who is with a few others, but, holds the door for others including me to go through.
My mother used to say to people who did not hold the door, thank you. A time or two someone would say for what. She would say that's it...nothing. I was embarressed, but, not my mom |
yes i do, and teaching my children also..
when i hold the door for someone and they do not say "thank you" I say your welcome...... hope they get the hint! |

I always say "thank you" when someone does something for me, especially hold a door open (it's so rare these days). Using common courtesy, I hold the door open for people all the time. Very rarely does anyone say "thank you". It makes me feel better to say "your welcome" (in a loud voice) anyways. I am sure they don't have a clue! But, on the odd chance that one person picks up on why I did... wow.. i could have wrote this! LOL |

There are a lot of parents who don't teach their kids manners. When i worked in a grocery store most of the time it was a free for all. Found that most kids don't know the difference between manners and or morals. They don't seem to teach it at school either. Can't really blame the kids because of what their parents don't teach them.

I do and that's the was my children were taught. But you're right, manners are becoming extinct!! My DH and boys still remove their hats at the table. I notice most males in restaurants don't bother.

Thinking more about this thread, when I was younger I worked in a shop here in the UK and my boss said " you are here for the customer - always be polite and respectful and ALWAYS stand to one side to let a customer pass". Huh - nowadays it seems you have to stand aside to let staff pass you, especially if they are filling shelves and pushing goods through the store. Is it just me ??- or have you noticed this ?

Manners were taught to our girls, and now to the gkids. Sometimes it takes more energy to be rude than to say "thanks"
