Pam I also am so sorry to hear about the losses in your precious family. My husband use to work one on one with a boy in the school system with Batten's Disease. My prayers are with your family. Me and my husband got back home early this morning from both of us having a sleep apnea study done. This is a second for both of us.

Pete 03-18-2013 06:24 AM

Help --- I have fallen off the wagon and can't get back on. Don't know why, when I was doing good.
My DH took me shopping to 2 quilt stores on Sat for International Quilt day. Did not go overboard. We did stop to eat on way home and the serving of french fries was huge (I am not a FF lover) and I ate them ALL! What happened to will power?

I feel so silly complaining about my lack of will power when I read about Pam's nephew. My heart goes out to you and your family.

Go for my third, and final, spine injection today -- hope it lasts. Maybe then I can exercising and walking.

I can't wait to see what she does with it.

Love it! What is the pattern?

It's a slow process, but it's better than continuing in the other direction. Next week is when I get measured again. Hopefully there will be some changes from the last time. Hang in there everyone. We can do this.

What are you doing to drop so much?

Thanks, Pete. The pattern I used is called Interlocking Seasons. There is a tutorial at TheParfaitCafe.com.
I got my quilt top sewn together and now need to make more border strips. I guess I have time since I am snowed in today and maybe tomorrow too. I sure hope this is the last storm of the season. I am so sick of all this snow! We have gotten over 20" of snow in March.
I am drinking my morning hot lemon water. It's funny how much I like it.....something that is good for me!

It really has been quiet here lately. What are you working on? I have the the fabric pulled for the 5th mystery, clue printed and starting this afternoon. I am also doing a patrotic swap have 1 set done, 2 in process and 2 cut ready to go, and one more to figure out what block I will make.

Also need to cut for a 2.5 inch block swap along with a twist for 2.5 inch batiks.

okay, this caught my attention! I can't wait to see what you do! I just made 2 totes using scraps of batiks from the king size quilt I made for our bed. I really like the small bits of batik together. The bed quilt is 6" triangles & I used 2 layer cakes that I picked up at a Quilter's garage sale. there was no way I was tossing what was left from the layer cake sqs. Love the quilt but the smaller triangles of one tote & 2 1/5 squares of the other one are quite pleasing as well. Make sure you show us, please

I have not been doing good at all either. I have got to jump high back on the wagon. lol...

meanmom 03-18-2013 03:41 PM

I was doing really well this month. I had to make a last minute unplanned trip to visit my DD, SIL and GS this weekend. I left the house in a hurry and didn't take stuff with me. I should know better they never have any food in their house. I don't know how she can stand it. I ended up eating oatmeal all weekend. Not too bad for me. We had Chipotle twice. I haven't looked up the WW points on that yet. Also we went out to dinner Friday and Saturday night. I did walk 4 miles on Friday and about 2 on Saturday. I missed my weigh in on Saturday and will miss again this coming weekend because I have my quilt retreat. I will try to weigh in Wed or Thurs. I will exercise extra this week.
I am doing the Mystery train ride again this month. I have my fabric picked but haven't started it yet. I am collecting UFO's to take to my retreat. Hopefully I can get some of them finished.
Pat

Pat, what's the Mystery Train ride? Sounds interesting. I have named my sewing room & craft room My Retreat since they are both upstairs & only M-I-N-E  I have never been to a real retreat but that sounds fun. Good for you on your walking!

I joined a weight loss program here in town called Sue's NuEnergy. It's almost like the Diet Center Diet that I've seen online. I eat regular food (learning portion control) drink 96 oz. water daily, and have three of the high protein supplements a day. Ex: shakes, bars, soups,... I have a serving of protein each meal, a bread serving, a vegetable serving plus a salad if I want it. I use low fat dressings and eat a variety of fruits. I can have 2 a day. It kind of reminds me of the old Weight Watchers plan from years ago except for the three supplement I have to have. The supplement bars remind me of the Atkins bars. High in protein. I think the total calorie intake is about 1200 a day. So far, I'm satisfied when I eat. I've gotten myself weaned off sugar and I limit my salt to 1/4 tsp. a day. That has helped me a lot too. I eat fresh fruits and veg. and grill or bake my meat (chicken, fish, ground round). I've finally found something I can live with. I even go out and eat on Sundays with my family and friends from church. I usually get a salad with grilled chicken. So far it hasn't hindered my weight loss.

Vanogay 03-19-2013 10:44 AM

Terrific Tuesday. To continue with the article in the Womans Day magazine, these few helpers are added:
Never eat sugar alone: Save the occasional candy bar, licorice or other sweet treat for after a meal that contains protein and fat, which will slow your body's absorption of sugar and prevent sharp ups and downs. Drink an 8-oz glass of water with every meal. Enjoy strawberries, cantaloupe, honeydew, pineapple or watermelon at breakfast. These high-in-H2O fruits will ensure that you don't start your day with a deficit.

Teddybear Lady 03-19-2013 10:48 AM

I was pleasantly surprised yesterday on my "weigh in" day. I was down another 3.8 lbs. since last Thursday. I've been on a plateau, but found out also that I've lost another 6 1/2 inches. My totals now for Jan. 1st to March 18 are 25.4 lbs. and 24 3/4 inches. It's a slow process, but I'm learning portion control and better eating habits. I'm also learning I can make wiser choices when going out to eat.

As for sewing, I'm still working on a quilt for my cousin's daughter. I'm having trouble with my left wrist (carpel tunnel) so I can't do a lot at one sitting. Even as I type, my wrist is complaining.

I have to cut some more strips for her quilt and iron the squares I have finished.

said a prayer for your family, Pam.
There is just nothing we can say when a child passes, just be there.
I think it must be the worst kind of pain. Dear Lord, bless you all.

don't feel silly, pain is pain, we just have different kinds.
I know what it's like to feel out of control with something and desperate to find a way to "get a grip".
I didn't get one this last time around about my weight issues until my body just started falling apart all over the place!
That'll sure wake a mousie up!

meanmom 03-19-2013 06:54 PM

I have 2 quilts I am working on that I am a little bit stumped on. One is the quilt I am making for my new grandson. It is applique but it just needs something. I wasn't quite sure what. I have had it hanging on the wall for 2 weeks staring at it trying to decide what it needs. Tonight I added a sun to it. I think I like it. The other quilt is a scrappy that is blah. No home for that one. I asked my DS opinion because he is good with colors etc. He liked what I had done but you will never guess what he told me....... "Don't you think you are getting a little bit carried away with all of this quilting stuff." Is he crazy??????

Pam H 03-19-2013 06:55 PM

Thanks, everyone, for your prayers and concern. The funeral will be thursday evening north of Minneapolis and the burial will be saturday in my town in Wisconsin. Both things will be very tough to go through but are so important for closure so the healing can begin.

Bahahaha!! watch, he will be the first one in line to take your beauties home too. I find I have that same problem sometimes. Sooner or later the quilt always tells me what it wants.

I decided not to join the mystery train this time (still too much going on) but sure hope you ladies show us what you're doing. Maybe next time I can hop aboard.

Thank you! I need all the "cheerleaders" I can get. haha I thought about posting a before and current picture, but I'm kinda embarrassed of how I had let myself go before doing something about it.

meanmom 03-20-2013 02:54 PM

Teddybear Lady a lot of us have let ourselves go. Nothing to be embarassed about. That is why we are all here. I weighed in today and was down 4.3 pounds in a week and a half. Hopefully I can behave myself at my quilt retreat. I am taking a bunch of UFO"S. Hopefully I can complete a bunch. I have homework for a quilting class to do also. I am taking all things that don't require much thought so I can talk and sew at the same time. I have my fabric for the mystery I am planning on taking that with me too.
Pam Prayers for healing for your family.
Pat

Mousie 03-20-2013 04:57 PM

congrats Teddybear Lady!
Believe it or not, even though I am working on my weight issues all the time, I forget to get on the scale!
I like to do it first thing in the morning before downing anything. Won't be tomolly :p

Pam H 03-20-2013 06:11 PM

I am having a heck of a time with my Ireland quilt. I made 4 strips sets and cut them all into 1 1/2" pieces. None of them are fitting together. I don't understand why. I remade one of the strips and it seems to be working ok. Now I will have to decide if I rip out the 40-50 sewn sets to use the part that works or to recut everything. Ugh!
Off to hold my Allie Cat for a couple hours. She will make everything all better!

If it would help you be accountable, I say do it! Look at the people on Biggest Loser, they get up there in their underwear almost. Let's face it, we all let ourself go somewhat or we would not be posting here. You are truely making a difference in your health NOW & that is what counts....so "GO YOU!!!!"

oh my goodness, that sounds like a diffucult project. Maybe if you walk away for a while things will gell for you. I know I have to do that many times & when I come back I wonder why I didn't figure it out the first time. Good luck, I hope you will show us what it looks like.

Teddybear Lady 03-21-2013 01:40 PM

I weigh in on Mondays and Thursdays. On Monday, I thought the scales were messed up at my weigh in place. I had lost 3.8 lbs. over the weekend. Well, today, I am down another 1.8 lbs. I'm finally doing this! If I can figure out how to post a picture from my scans, I will. My diet counselor took one the day I started and one just the other day for a comparison.

Thanks for all the encouraging words. We can do this! Yay, go us!!! :D

meanmom 03-21-2013 02:33 PM

Pam I tried to make what was supposed to be a quick quilt I saw on Pintrest. I sewed and cut and sewed and cut. Nothing fit together. I tried to put them together a different way and hated it. I finally couldn't stand to look at it any more and put it away for a later date and started over. Sometimes I just don't know what happens. Good luck getting it to work. I hope you don't have to rip much.
I leave tomorrow on my retreat. They serve awesome food. I sure hope I can behave myself. There is always dessert, pie or cake, homemade bread, biscuits etc. I have a bunch of UFO's packed. Hopefully I can get some of them out of the way. I want to be able to purchase a bunch more at the International Quilt Show in Cincinnati.

JuneBillie 03-21-2013 05:26 PM

Congrats to you that have lost some more of yourself. I hope soon I can be among you again. So many of you also very busy sewing. Now that I can do.

Pam H 03-21-2013 08:48 PM

My border is coming along. I remade one of my strip sets and it is working much better. The timeline is giving me some anxiety. The quilts have to be in Illinois by 4/15. Yikes! Hopefully I can get it finished and off to the longarmer this weekend or monday at the latest.
Today was the funeral. It was a tough one. The tiny white casket and all the pictures made it hard. Ethan loved the Pixar Cars movie. There is a fan page on facebook and they somehow knew about Ethan. People from all over the world sent toy cars from the movie to be given out at the funeral. They received over 700 cars! The outpouring of love for this child and his family was truly heartwarming. They served pizza and chocolate chip cookies which were Ethan's favorites. Everything was very nice. They burial will be saturday. He will be cremated and the cremanes will be put in a Toy Story lunch box for the burial. After the funeral we walked out of the sanctuary to "You've Got a Friend in Me". Sorry to go on and on about this. I can't help it.

Shadowirish 03-21-2013 09:07 PM

Pam, we're here to listen. Continued prayers for you and your family.

meanmom 03-22-2013 04:37 AM

Pam it is so hard when someone so young dies. I am praying for peace for you and your family.
Glad to hear your quilt is coming along. I look forward to seeing the pictures. I love all of the different blocks. I would love to make some of them. I am having a UFO weekend at my quilt retreat. I cancelled my class there and first will do my homework for a class next week. Then I am going to go thru my UFO pile. I hope to finish all of the ones I am taking. I still have the projects from last years classes that I haven't finished. One just needs to be layered and quilted the other I am doing some hand embroidery on then need to attach the applique pieces. Can't wat. Leaving in 2 hours:-)

Pam H 03-22-2013 06:02 AM

Pat, retreats are so much fun. I hope you get everything done you have planned. I spent my recent one and one last fall just working on my Irish quilt. Gave me a good jump start on what I needed to do at the time. Not to mention the input of ideas from other quilters. I love quilt retreats!

You need to talk about it & writing about it online is so much easier than actually talking. My heart breaks for everyone who loved than sweet boy. My prayers are with you all.

Vanogay 03-22-2013 11:01 AM

Pam, glad you are writing about your experiences and your loving memories of Ethan. I could almost hear the music and see the people there. Thank you for sharing with us and my prayers go with you and the family. It won't be easy, but remember, we are here to listen.

createfourpaws 03-22-2013 05:43 PM

Pam feel free to share anytime, we are here for all kinds of support.

I have come down with a nasty cold, started out as allergies and now it is moving down to my chest. Not good for me with just one good lung. I am bundled up and going to stay on the couch. it seems that winter has returned to Texas, expecting freezing temps by the Sunday. UGH

I have so much that needs to get done, but feeling like I do none will get done until I feel better.

Mousie 03-22-2013 07:10 PM

Pam, sounds like Ethan is very loved. Pizza and chocolate chip cookies, what a smart little boy ;)

so sorry to hear that you have a cold create.
I have some friends, a couple, and he has one lung.
My dh is on portable oxygen so I know why she is so careful with him.
Good for you, taking care of yourself.
Hope you'll be up and around and those things will be there waiting for you, but you've got your priorities straight

JuneBillie 03-22-2013 09:41 PM

Cindy it's good for you to rest right now. With all the weather changes it's hard to stay well. My husband also is always on oxygen. I have had something breathing issues too, but mine is due to the lupus.

I actually think I will have made it through the day on my diet. ( I am up late, so now it's actually Saturday) I felt better today or rather Friday on my diet of eating better foods, and with my portion controls.

I just hope I stay with it this time. Stay well everyone, and Cindy you get well.

Painiacs 03-22-2013 09:53 PM

Pam, bless you with hugs and prayers. cindy Id say the same but having severe asthma I dont need your cold! Sending prayers and well wishes! Feel better.
Hope all is doing well with weight loss!

createfourpaws 03-24-2013 07:27 AM

where is everyone hiding? we have been a quiet group this month. Are you watching the March madness baseball games???? I was asked if I wanted to be in the pot for the games, turned it down. I dont have to watch them anymore, no in my home that has to watch them.

I am gonna try to get some quilty projects done today.
