I repair anything that is worth repairing. I don't mind being frugal.

I do much of what you do except the socks. They are all store-bought and not worth the effort. I do draw the line when my DH wants me to make fabric out of thin air...

Regularly. I have 3 helpless men in my life.

I repair anything I can. I'm tickled pink when I can repair something that a friend owns. I recently patched someone's patchwork quilt in a few spots. I fixed a little girl's seriously worn fancy dress so she could wear it once more to a party. I love to do favors for people but I haven't been sewing for a long time, so maybe that will wear thin....

I've repaired the canvas roof of our backyard gazebo many times. I repaired a relative's favorite messenger bag so many times that I told him I was sewing nothing but air in the end! When I could not repair it anymore he checked online and found it was still available for purchase at a real good price, so he bought a new one. I will try to fix anything. Waste not, want not is my motto. (And I hate shopping so I'd much rather repair than shop.)

Except socks. I've never tried. Most of our socks wear out either at the heel or on the ball of the foot. I don't think you can fix those areas comfortably. Our socks don't wear out at the toes. Why is that??

Yes, I am a mender.

Sleepy Hollow- your socks are darling. If I had them I would want to repair them too. But not store bought- which is what I have.
I want to learn to make socks! I bought a Craftsy class but haven't watched much of it yet.

I am a mender - if I feel I can do a good job on it - so I do simple things. I do mend for family members and also for my next-door neighbor but with the understanding that I am NOT a professional at mending.

I do sew up the toes of my socks - I have a cat that loves chewing and eating holes in the toes and heels. If it is just the toe, I will mend but heels, no. She has been on a diet lately; I have gotten really good about not leaving my socks laying around for "snacks" but sometimes she sneaks them out of the laundry basket.

If it is "just" a hole 1/2 or less in diameter in an otherwise good sock, I will darn it. When the sock gets "thin" in other places, I don't bother.

My darns are "smooth" - so the sock still feels okay while wearing it.

My Mom would say a mend was "snirped together" when the raw edges were pulled together and that made a "dart" or a "rosette" of the edges. (It was not a compliment on the repair job!)

Mend and repair everything except store-bought socks. I even mended 2 leather motorcycle saddle bags and a barbeque grill cover.

Okay, now you've inspired me to try to mend my socks by machine.
