How u make it easier :-( I know it is difficult but did u try any thing near the pain killer, quite place, no TV, no computer, wet cloth, hot shower may be must cold one i don't know, a cup of dry mint works sometimes not this time.
What is your experience
It's bad :(

antiquegirl68 06-27-2011 02:01 AM

I had to get a prescription in a shot form and it has been a couple of years ago and I am not use what it was called. The shots worked though. Hope you feel better soon.

donnajean 06-27-2011 02:29 AM

Have you tried Excedrin - before the headache gets bad. Also, I have far fewer headaches since I retired & now drink a lot more water.

Painiacs 06-27-2011 02:38 AM

Good luck n!!

Try some Excedrin for Migraines..They work great..Sure hope your headache is gone away soon..

Jennifer22206 06-27-2011 03:33 AM

Excedrin doesn't work for my migraines, but then again I'm a chronic migraine sufferer. If I sip a bit of ginger ale and put hot steaming water in a bowl and put my head over it with a towel on top of my head and breathe in the steam, sometimes that relieves it.

Otherwise, only time for me.

AlwaysQuilting 06-27-2011 03:46 AM

I get them too (since I was 11). They're awful. I know exactly how you're feeling. I don't have any secret weapon. I hope you're feeling better by now.

frauhahn 06-27-2011 03:49 AM

I had them for years. I found that the prescription drug worked better if I took an OTC painkiller with it. Read it on line, asked the doctor and he confirmed it-it worked!

MyWifeMadeME 06-27-2011 04:16 AM

Pain Killer... quiet place... dim the lights.. Praying for you.

SparkMonkey 06-27-2011 04:45 AM

The best I can offer is my sympathies and good thoughts. :( I'm sorry you're having to deal with this. My mom was a chronic migraine sufferer (they seem to have stopped with menopause, thank you God Above) and I well remember the sadness it cast on the household when we woke up to the sound of her moaning and dry-heaving.

If it gets unbearable, your doctor will have high-octane painkillers (go to Urgent Care if your GP can't get you in quickly). They'll knock you out for a couple days but anything's better than the migraine. And in the future, the best thing is to head it off before it starts. If you feel it coming on, attack it immediately. It is so much easier to stop them if they don't get a chance to really dig their claws in.

*hugs* I hope you get some relief soon.

dd 06-27-2011 04:59 AM

I found that Coke helps better than coffee. Sometimes a hot shower &/or a nap. I take Imitrex but I also take Aleve with it, about 1/2 hr. before. I have a hot pack that I put in the microwave, that goes on my neck and shoulders. I don't actually throw up but my stomach gets queasy. Sleep is good but I can't sleep on that side but my friend only wants to sleep on that side of the pain. My dr. did a manipulation on me once and that took the pain and queasiness away. She said it would only be temporary and it was. But at least I was forewarned and could get meds in me before it came back.

1227Granny 06-27-2011 05:12 AM

I take prescription Imitrex for my migraines. Headaches done in 15 minutes. You only take it when you have a headache -- not daily. It works great for me!

lorimax5859 06-27-2011 06:21 AM

So sorry about the migraines. Only a fellow sufferer can appreciate how bad they are. Have tried everything under the sun. Only thing that helps now is Maxalt ask your doctor. Never leave home without it! Excedrin helps but be careful about rebound headaches (ask me how I know!) Hope this helps.

hooked 06-27-2011 06:26 AM

I use Zomig nasal when feel migrain coming up follow up wiht Zomig ZMT 2 hours later. Worked great at first now only works sometimes. Then I started having migraines over 21 days a month so the doctor is now trying Botox. I had first set of 31 shots to head and neck last Wed. Waiting to see if works. For me the only thing that works reliably is dark quite room and sleep. Sometime just a good cry relives the pressure. Good luck. I feel for you

Mimito2 06-27-2011 06:28 AM

I drink Gatorade as much as I can tolerate without getting sick at my stomach and take 2 aspirin. They seem to work better than other pain meds for me. I learned bio-feedback and that helps me more than anything. I get in a cold, dark room and go walk on the beach at Tybee Island.

Chicca 06-27-2011 06:34 AM

After a traumatic brain injury, migrains are horrible. I have tried total blackness, cold and hot washcloths, no noise, over the counter remedies and so forth. The only thing that does offer relief is a shot at the emergency room and sleep after for hours. The prescribed medication Imatrex offers relief, but it only eases the pain enough to sleep it off. But I highly recommend the shots or the prescriptions because they at least let me have enough relief to stop me from cutting off my brain!

cizzors 06-27-2011 06:47 AM

Excedrin Migraine with an ice pack, go to bed, no tv and close the blinds.

Ramona Byrd 06-27-2011 07:18 AM

I've had migraines for many years, but after menopause they taper off. Once before there was a long series on migraines here, if I can find it I'll give the link.

Last thing I tried outside the drugs/food avoidances, etc, was a simple thing to do. I put cold wet cloths on my forehead and stuck my feet in hot water. Sounds strange, but a nurse I met at the blood bank told me it worked for her after many years of using every drug on the market.

Try it, might work and won't hurt. Worked for me, surprisingly fast.

nycquilter 06-27-2011 07:21 AM

I've had severe migraines from age 12. "they" told me the headaches would stop when I got pregnant (wrong), in my late 20s (wrong), after I gave birth (wrong again, 2 hours post=c-section and a migraine with vomiting), in menopause (wrong again!). I started to use Imitrex nasal spray at the first sign of the aura and that really helped if I immediately took it then crawled into bed in a dark room. The imitrex shortened the pain from 3 days to about 4 hours. No rebound time either. Then a friend introduced me to feverfew tincture, an herbal remedy. I take it the same way as the imitrex, right when the aura begins. My experience is it works just as well as the imitrex with less body damage to my liver and such. So, try this, it's readily available at a good health food store. I carry it with me always, like I did the imitrex. Good luck. I'm hoping death will terminate the migraines, though I have a feeling (given if I didn't have bad luck, i'd have no luck) that I'll be in line outside the pearly gates, with a migraine listening to the announcer tell me to "be patient, we are processing the multitudes ahead of you, you will be seen as soon as our clerks are available"!

Ramona Byrd 06-27-2011 07:30 AM

One other thing you could do to find other suggestions on this forum is go go up the screen to "SEARCH" and you'll find many ideas, some of which may help you a lot.

You aren't alone, but only those of us who have had them know full well the terrible time you're going through.

Hope that you can find some help. Let us know what works for you.

happymrs 06-27-2011 07:37 AM

I keep prescription Maxalt on hand, also, Excedrin Migraine. Seldom get one now, thank goodness, but am nearing 6-0 & have had them all my life. By the way, even when I feel a headache just starting, I take something right away, don't wait. Sometimes, that keeps it from getting any worse, or turning into a migraine. Good luck, keep trying till you find what works for you!...

charity-crafter 06-27-2011 07:39 AM

The things I do for my migraines which fortunately I only have a few a year now.

1. dark room, cool clothes on the head, pain medication,

2. Accupressure-I had a friend who practiced chinese medicine. She helped me tremdendously.
There are several spots you can press.
The fatty part of your hand between your thumb and forefinger, press squeeze firmly and release several time.

inside of your ankle -someplace around the ankle bone, I forget exactly so I just press all of the inside ankle area.

head-around the temples, sort of message up to the top of the head.

3. in the shower I alternate hot and cold water on my head.

4. This is going to sound weird, and I'm not exactly sure how to explain it, but it works for me. It's a mental exercise. Lay down in the dark, close your eyes and concentrate on sweeping the pain into one location and then visualize putting a cap on it. It only works as long as I concentrate on keeping the cap on the pain. I know it's weird, I'm not even sure where I picked it up.

The best think I did was figure out what my triggers where so I could avoid as much as possible.
My triggers are: atmospheric changes-spring and fall when the weather changes-nothing I can do about that.

On a windy road with lots of trees where the sun shines on your face and then it gets blocked by the trees for miles...that will trigger a bad one

Lights- bright, strobe, flouresent and lights that flicker badly.

Good luck, hopefully you'll find some relief soon. I know how horrible migraines are.

One time I developed one and I was going up stairs to lay down after shopping and it was so bad I couldn't actually stand up. I was laying on the stairs and looked back and saw I had left the front door wide open and thought, "Hey maybe someone will come in and shoot me" and that was a positive thing. That just shows people who don't have migraines who bad they get.

Tartan 06-27-2011 07:41 AM

Okay, for my migraines the only way I get relief is to take an A.C.C. tablet. They are available at Walmart in Canada. You have to ask for them as they are on the "Controlled Substance" list I believe. They are Acetylsalicylic Acid (aspirin) 375 mg. Caffeine 25 mg. and Codeine 8 mg. hence the name A.C.C. They are under the Equate brand name and they produce them with Tylenol, if you can't take aspirin. I don't have any drug retrictions yet so I am able to take them. If you are on blood thinners (don't take the aspirin) and if on blood pressure meds. check with your doctor on what is safe to take. Hope they are available where you are. You have my sympathy!

Do you have access to a natural foods store? I use to sell small bottles of headache relief oil at craft shows and fairs. Its made with 1/2 tsp. jojoba oil, 10 drops pure lavender oil, 10 drops pure spearmint oil, 10 drops pure eucalyptus oil. Shake well place a drop on tip of finger and massage into each temple and then across the forehead. Place another drop on finger and massage up the leaders on each side of the neck, place another drop and massage around each nostril and right under the nose. I was set up at a craft show once when the sheriff and his wife came in, she had such a migraine I could tell she was sick. I had her sit in my chair and I applied the oil to her head while explaining to her what to do. I gave her that bottle of oil. Withing 15 min she felt so much better she came back to my booth and wanted to purchase 5 bottles. Her daughter, husband and a friend also got migraines. She would travel an hour to meet me over the next few years just to pick up 5-10 bottles of the oil at a time. I use to teach, and one time I had one of my bad migraines at a play we had taken the middle school to watch. I used the oil on myself. The teacher next to me was getting a migraine also and she told me later that she could smell the oil on me and it had greatly helped he migraine. If you don't feel like trying to make your own, you can have some success with Bath & Body Works Stress Relief Roll-on. Just put it on in the same places and massage it in and breathe deeply.

I have gotten Migranes for alot of years too. Nothing like having a headache and living in an upstairs apartment with a balcony looking down on cement and your Best solution to ending the migrane is to jump. Luckily I never did jump, but for this one particular migrane was so bad that I called my doctor and told him HE BETTER DO something or I'm going to jump!!! With a migrane some people are in so much pain that reality is a blur and they are just wanting to get rid of the pain. He told me to go to the ER that he would be waiting for me which he was. I was lucky I didn't have to wait to be seen. He gave me a shot of Nubain and phenergan for the nausea and vomiting..oh gosh did that shot do wonders. Nubain is a non narcotic unlike Demerol that they would give me any other time. I would doze off but was almost always aware of my surroundings and such so it wasn't as if I was totally drugged out of my mind.

Another thing my doctor told me to do is to Drink a REGULAR COCA COLA!!! Something to do with the caffeine in the Coca Cola helps ease a migrane and it had to be the REAL Coca Cola. And I did voice my concern to him about being a diabetic and he said it would be okay to drink it once in a while.
Once I went through menopause, I no longer seem to have migranes but every great once in a while, I will get a headache that will last a couple of days but tolerable and I just take a couple of tylenols.
I hope that you find a solution very soon.

Those of us who have migraines really understand this statement. I have a friend who just doesn't understand the pain involved and how it effects your entire body-the nasuea, vomiting and I even get really bad diareaha. Nothing like standing in the bathroom trying to figure which end goes where. I finally kept a plastic trashcan next to the toilet  ...I know TMI, TMI.

Blue's quilting mama 06-27-2011 09:05 AM

Make sure you drink lots of water. My migraines are a lot less since I went through menopause..

I totally agree about Coca Cola. I drink it and take Excedrin Migraine.

relpax is the only answer dfor me, works like a charm

Kuusistoquilter 06-27-2011 11:39 AM

I use Imitrex for my migraines. sometime you need to go to the emergency room and get a shot of demeral. I hope it gets better soon. It's no fun having one of them. I can remember beating my head against the wall because the pain from that took my mind away from the pain in my head.

anicra 06-28-2011 03:11 AM

I take Imitrex - in nasal spray form. Since I had a hysterectomy, my migraines are far less frequent and less violent and I also find that taking Excedrin as soon as i feel one coming on. Excedrin is a combination of aspirin, ibuprofen and caffeine. I feel your pain. I wish you success in overcoming your migraines.

plainpat 06-28-2011 03:12 AM

I need quiet, dark room....but the med from Dr ....Maxalt...works for me.The tablet disolves on the tongue & usually over in 20-30 mins.Excedrin migrane medicine also works for most.It can be bought in any drugstore.

What helps me the most is staying away from any & all artifical sweetners. Hope you find help.

I suffered from migraines for years; About 4 years ago, I went to a chiropractor. He found out my cervical spine was really 'messed up'. I went 3x/week for several months and now I visit him once a month for 'maintenance'. I haven't had a migraine since.

thseabreze 06-28-2011 04:02 AM

I have them too...see a neurologist, they can prescribe something for you. If you have them often, they can prescribe a preventative, that you take daily.
I take Imitrex as needed...which isn't often now. There is alot to consider for migraine relief.

willis.debra 06-28-2011 04:13 AM

Excedrine works great for me. what worked best was cutting the length off my hair. I used to get migrains 2-3 times a week when my hair was halfway down my back. I cut it very short, pixie cut, and have only had one migraine in a month.

mash43quilter 06-28-2011 04:28 AM

Don't laugh, but when I was younger I had migraines and the Dr. had me take Midol PMS. At least give it a try..
Hope you get better!!!!

kdlingenfelter 06-28-2011 05:13 AM

I was told by an herbalist to use the essential oil Peppermint. It does work and work very well. Take the bottle and use 1 drop on your finger and rub it on the spot that is pounding (keep away from Eyes fumes very strong) in a few minutes it will feel cold and the pain will go away. This can be repeated as needed. Also works well with stoved thumbs. Relieves a lot of the pain.
What it does is constrict the blood vessels that are pounding.
I use to have migraines that I would slam my head into a cast iron bath tub. I was vomiting and head was pounding. Since I found the peppermint treatment I keep it with me at all times, NOTE Check your blood pressure when you get one, could be it is very high and you need BP medication from your Doctor.
Good luck they are no fun.

greaterexp 06-28-2011 05:24 AM

After 30 years of migraines, I tried a beta blocker - metoprolol. Now I only rarely have them, and they are manageable with just a generic equivalent of Excedrin (aspirin, acetaminophen, and caffeine). Wow! I have to take it (the metoprolol) every day, but it's well worth it! I sure hope yours go away quickly.

SS Muro 06-28-2011 05:42 AM

I suffer with migraine headaches with auras. My treatment is to take a Fioricet tablet, not the generic, use a nasal spray which my doctor has injected novacaine into, an ice pack for my head and neck, a dark room, sunglasses and alot of prayers for relief.

Dianemarie 06-28-2011 05:46 AM

Oh how I remember; I had a prescription from Dr for Fiorinal. If I took it a the slight twinge they never came full fledge. For some reason after child # 3 I rarely get them anymore; she was more than a blessing. I used to have to call my MIL to come get the others as I couldn't cope. Dark room, dry heaves for one to two days and then feeling like I was still out of it for a day or so. So sorry for your pain......
