D Z Akins in La Mesa, CA
a Jewish deli
everything is great and their potato salad has (believe it or not!) grated carrots in it! To die for.

My own kitchen!

MadQuilter 02-21-2011 03:44 PM

Original Pete's in Roseville, CA. (I guess I would be considered a "regular")

Sadiemae 02-21-2011 03:47 PM

I can't go anymore because I can't afford it, but my late husband and I used to go to the Outback. I loved it!

moonwork42029 02-21-2011 03:48 PM

We like to try new places when we travel...usually try to pick a "mom & pop" looking place that the regulars are at....we've been mislead before but that just gives us something to laugh at when we leave.

Can't say we have a real favorite overall

Abuelo's Mexican Food Cantina in Lubbock.

I love Red Lobster, but even better is a restaurant in Fenton, MI called Lucky's steakhouse! Their ribs are to die for!!

pookie ookie 02-21-2011 04:03 PM

I've been to DZ Akins (as a child the first time). I like Canter's (although no longer kosher). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canter%27s

I also like Carolina BBQ from any place in the Carolinas.

And, I know of two amazing pizza parlors. Not sharing! :0D

kathdavis 02-21-2011 04:03 PM

Zio's Italian Restaurant in Independence, Missouri for dinner.
IHop (International House of Pancakes) Strawberries and Banana Crepes for breakfast or even dinner.

slstitcher 02-21-2011 04:04 PM

I also like Abuelo's Mexican Food restaurant. Of course I have to travel about 4 hours to get to one. (Sigh)

JanetM 02-21-2011 04:08 PM

I've become a pretty good cook so I go to Chéz Janet's most evenings LOL.

If I am in Denver "California Cafe" in Park Meadows Mall, or "Briarwood" in Golden CO.

Here in San Diego..."Ponce's Mexican Restaurant" is one of my favorites. Breakfast at Original Pancake House (not IHOP) in Clairmont or Poway. Best pizza at Nicolosi's.

In Ontario CA, believe it or not, the restaurant at the Ayres Hotel (Convention Center) is great. Had a great Champagne Chicken there.

Awww, now I'm hungry

DawnMarie 02-21-2011 04:19 PM

Beau Jo's Pizza in Idaho Springs, Co. I've only ever been there once on vacation, but I've been craving it ever since. Too bad they don't deliver to Iowa. :(

ssgramma 02-21-2011 04:19 PM

Dizz's As Is, Laguna Beach, CA

Jack's Steakhouse, Redding, CA

Erna's Elderberry House, Oakhurst, CA

Here: Verdi, a local Bosnian owned Mediterranean restaurant

sandilee 02-21-2011 04:22 PM

For casual dining we frequent "Dennys".
Seafood we like "Red Lobster", but they always have a hour wait.
Italian we go to "Pasta House" maybe "Olive Garden"
Steaks is any steakhouse like "longhorn" or "Lonestar".

We enjoy trying new places, too. Since its just he and I now since the kids are gone we do eat out more often than we use to.
I like anything except Chinese!

alderdweller 02-21-2011 04:35 PM

No Name Pub on Big Pine Key, Florida. Best pizza in the world!

sally's girl 02-21-2011 04:43 PM

Koran Buffett....they have a Mongolun grill

Rabs 02-21-2011 04:46 PM

We also prefer to eat at locally owned restaurants and will go out of our way to do so while traveling. Here in the Lansing area we like a hole in the wall called "Golden Harvest" for breakfast, "Emil's" for Italian, "Ukai" for Japenese & sushi, "Eaton Pub" for American, and if I had to choose a chain restaurant it would be "Mitchell's Fish Market".

My FIL used to take me every year to Zio's. I loved it. With everything so expensive now, we hardly ever drive that far for supper.

nativetexan 02-21-2011 05:14 PM

Pappadeaux's. love it!!

Cybrarian 02-21-2011 05:26 PM

Destination restaurant the Pirate House in Savannah, Ga. High priced but an amazing experience. Building dates before the Revolutionary War Seasons 52 in Orlando or Tampa. There may be others. Menu changes 4 times a year to focus on the produce and other foods fresh on the market. All entrees are between 400 and 525 calories. Wonderful food. They may be the originators of the shot glass desserts. Theirs are awesome!

sherriequilts 02-21-2011 05:45 PM

Always stop at DZ Akins when we go to Rosie's Calico Cupboard in La Mesa, but gas prices will definitely put a stop to shopping there for a long time. I have started checking mileage each time I go anywhere. At 25 mpg I have to ask myself if even a 50 mile round trip is necessary now!
Thrift shops for fabric (shirts etc) and Del Taco's 49 cent bean & cheese burritos will be my fabric and food fare. See, I made it back to restaurant!

Ramona Byrd 02-21-2011 05:58 PM

Any place where I don't have to cook and do the clean up!!

But far the best Oriental buffet is Wangs, in Modesto at Floyd and Coffee Road. Gone there for many, many years. Every time I go to Modesto I stop there.

sueisallaboutquilts 02-21-2011 06:16 PM

Believe it or not, HOME! My husband is an amazing cook and he can't seem to make anything bad!! :D:D

trupeach1 02-21-2011 06:25 PM

Katz's deli in NY however since I live in Ohio once ever year or so for a birthday I order from them and they ship it. Other then that home Ohio has crappy food.

Jill 02-21-2011 06:29 PM

Mike Andersen's in Baton Rouge, LA...best shrimp I ever had.

Forgive my geography, but are you close to St Louis.

Have you eaten at Gioia's on The Hill? Their sandwiches are to die for.

A really good, but super pricey restaurant in the same area is LoRusso's. It is a special occasion type of place for us (when the someone offers to babysit).

mltquilt 02-21-2011 07:17 PM

Lewisville, TX - Mama's Daughters Diner - breakfast, lunch are dinner. Great homestyle cooking with several daily plated specials and great hamburgers.

When we travel to Batesville, AR to go to Marshall's Dry Goods, we go to Josie's Steak House. It is located on the White River by the only lock and dam I've ever seen on that river. Beautiful view, great ambiance and the service is great. Not very pricey, guaranteed to satisfy.

DeneK 02-21-2011 07:25 PM

The Samrat Indian restaurant in Tallahassee (my favorite within reasonable distance)

quilter2 02-21-2011 07:38 PM
