My husband and I went looking for a new kitten today. I already have two, a Maine coon boy and a Persian girl. The boy is a great hunter, but he is 13 and is slowing down. We were thinking that we needed another like him that he could train up to be keep the rodent population down outside. I found a Maine mix that I liked and we were going to go get that one, but decided to stop by the local shelter and see what they had. Hubby said it had to be a boy.

They didn't have too many and this little girl stole my husbands heart. She was a stray that they had picked up and had been at the pound a week. They said they guessed she is about 10 or 12 weeks. So we had to bring her home. She seems to really like people, and wanted to be held or sitting on us all the way home. I have her sequestered in my sewing room and she is quite playful.

So she needs a name. Any ideas? My husband normally does the naming of pets, but he takes forever. So any ideas will be appreciated. I suggested Pollyanna, and call her Polly, but he said she is not a bird.

Calico?? Cally for short. She is soooooo pretty! I have four here in the US but I just lost my last cat in the UK last week that a friend had taken for me, so a lil' bit sad... but life goes on. Anyway def for calico is: a plain-woven cotton cloth printed with a figured pattern, usually on one side.
2.
British . plain white cotton cloth.
3.
an animal having a spotted or particolored coat.

She is a cutie. Sorry don't have a name recommendation, would need to get to know her a little better. Good luck, sounds like she found a good home.

maryb119 06-13-2011 02:44 PM

Miss Priss or Little pirate for her eye patch.

Katia 06-13-2011 02:45 PM

What looks like a mess under her right eye is just her coloring. It looks like she got into moms makeup. She needs a bath, but I figured I would give her a day or two to acclimate before that adventure. Since I am allergic, my cats have to learn to tolerate baths. It helps so much with my allergies.

I was thinking lucky! Not original but he did say it had to be a boy!

decky 06-13-2011 02:49 PM

For some reason Miff entered my mind.

Murphy 06-13-2011 02:50 PM

Callie or Cali.

c1bendt 06-13-2011 02:50 PM

molly

irishrose 06-13-2011 02:50 PM

She looks a little like my Taffy Jane or my Sugar Baby. Taffy was a little sweetie, Sugar was more of an imp.

tealady 06-13-2011 02:55 PM

I'd go for Callie.

IrelandDragonQuilting 06-13-2011 02:58 PM

Well whatever you name her, she is a doll! Very very cute!

blueangel 06-13-2011 03:00 PM

My cat looked a lot like her and her name was Callie. Had her for almost 15 years.

emerald46 06-13-2011 03:11 PM

Patches....she looks just like a cat I had growing up!

HAHAHA...this is the name I chose too!

dixiebelle162002 06-13-2011 03:34 PM

Pitty Pat

erstan947 06-13-2011 03:34 PM

I have a dark calico and her name is Marble. Her mother looked like your new baby and her name was RC (Ruth's Cat):)

2 Doods 06-13-2011 03:44 PM

She looks like my Callie. Our's is an outdoor, mostly wild, good little hunter. Pretty kitty! Glad she found a good home!

zennia 06-13-2011 03:48 PM

I don't have a name but you sure got yourself a pretty kitty.

Painiacs 06-13-2011 03:49 PM

Sweet sarah

meemersmom 06-13-2011 03:56 PM

Cuddles came to mind when you said she had to be on or next to you the whole ride home, and that she's so lovey. How about a version of Scraps or Scrappy? She looks like she's put together a little bit like a scrap quilt out of all sorts of different pieces. She is just beautiful. Congrats to you and your husband!!

Kooklabell 06-13-2011 04:01 PM

Sadie. I just had to send my little girl to kitty heaven last week. She was 16 years old.

patty48 06-13-2011 04:03 PM

Lucy. Just came to me looking at her....oh yeah, you can be Ethel!

Happiness is... 06-13-2011 04:07 PM

Awww. She looks like my Sophie. She is nearly 15 with kidney failure. I'm sure she would be honored to have her name carried on by a "cousin". Sophie is a long-hair calico.

Marion T 06-13-2011 04:15 PM

She is adorable. I once had a similar looking cat many many years ago. Her name was Gemma, because she looked like a little gem.

Kappy 06-13-2011 04:31 PM

So pretty, love kittens!

Kappy 06-13-2011 04:32 PM

Forgot to add a name. How about Patches

dbries 06-13-2011 04:34 PM

Bandit

mamaw 06-13-2011 04:37 PM

Not sure why...but Muffin came to mind.

My thoughts exactly, since she is so at home in the sewing room and her obvious patches of color :)

laughingquilter 06-13-2011 05:07 PM

She's a beautiful kitty! I love Calico's. I don't know why - but when I look at her "Roxy" comes to mind. Whatever you name her - she's a beauty!!!

jrhboxers 06-13-2011 05:08 PM

I like Sophie or Sadie. Or even Mabel. I like the more old-fashioned names.

roseOfsharon 06-13-2011 05:17 PM

She is adorable and already seems to be curious to get into your quilting.. Calico is a cute name, makes her fabric related :) As mentioned above *cali* would be a sweet name as well.

Katia 06-13-2011 05:29 PM

Her coat really does remind me of a quilt or a puzzle. She has decided that the monitor is fascinating and tries to catch the pointer when I am playing my Facebook game. It didn't take her long to figure out how to get up on my desk. That may be tricky when I am actually sewing.

Thanks for all the name suggestions. I already have a Lucy, my Silkie terrier, and a Priscilla, Priss, my Persian. I have also known lots of Callies. I still like Polly, but also love the name Lily or Hannah. I was even thinking about Moda for a name, since I love that brand of fabric, but I doubt my DH will go for any of those names.

I was thinking she looked a bit like a Harliquin clown, but that would become Harley and that does not work for a girl. And way too common anyway. I like uncommon names for the most part. I guess I will know it when I hear it.

kittiebug 06-13-2011 05:39 PM

I love cats I'm cat person. I have 2 Black cats Charlie and
Diamond . Diamond has a white diamond on her chest.

I like the name Ginger ?

NewYearsOld 06-13-2011 06:14 PM

Batik or Tiki for short? My friend just adopted a young moma with three babies, so we are trying to find names for them too.

Sheila_H 06-13-2011 06:21 PM

I had one like that growing up we called that one marbles, its a beautiful kitten for sure!
