Town is triangle shaped. At it's widest edges - 7 blocks long, 5 (short) blocks wide.

1 retail business, a "Casey's" general store. We call it the "Civic Center".

Town is surrounded by corn fields. Closest other towns are 3 miles away. Two of them have grocery stores. 1 of them has a quilt shop. Lucky me :)

Our town is the biggest town in the county, the county seat, about 2800, but that's including the outlaying population. The entire county population is about 10,000. We're 7 miles out of town on 80 acres.

No police they do send deputies to patrol from time to time. We do have one officer who lives on the edge of town.
One gas/groc station 2 bars library and post office. That is the extent of our downtown. Salem was founded in 1835 by Quakers. We have the Llewellyn house which was one of the founders and also an underground railroad house now a museum.

If you go one block to the south of us you are on the edge of town. If you go 4 blocks to the north you are on the edge of town. You can go 2 blocks east or 4 blocks west of us to reach the edge. Everyone has lp gas tanks no city gas. We have 2 churches and one grade school. The only big town close is Mt. Pleasant 12 miles north of us. Most people shop in Mt.P or Burlington 30 miles away. Jobs are at least in Mt.P or Burlington.

Until a few years ago noone locked their doors. Noone thinks twice about leaving your car running or leaving the key in your car overnight. We have had some crime but it is few and far between. Usually things like someone got drunk and rode around shooting into some houses. That only happened once. Teenager shot out some windows.

Our population is approx 400

Church, postoffice, gas pump at farm impliment repair shop, thats it. Growing up we had a party line on the telephone and knew everyone listened so my friends and I would make up outrageous stories and pretty soon the "facts" were all over town. Great fun while it lasted.

Well, I live in the largest town in the county. We have the stop light, schools, police, fire dept etc. High school takes in 15 towns and graduates about 50 kids a year. So although my town is the hub, it is very small and rural.

My town is so small that the Welcome to Ten Mile and Come Back Soon is on the same sign post!

I could do the small town life in a heatbeat. I live in a small town...not quite as small as those mentioned...but I know I would love it!

I enjoy solitude
