Sears called them "Tough Skins" If I recall correctly.

You could iron the patches on - and then handsew the patch down.
Not exactly fun sewing, but it would probably be just as fast as undoing the inseam. Just make sure you have a strong, sharp needle for the project - and do wear a thimble to help push the needle through the fabrics.

Not for my 7 yo. lol I prefer she wait a few years before she's wearing jeans with holes in them.

I too have been giggling about patching jeans while reading this - I was in a store a few weeks ago that where there were no jeans that DIDN'T need patching and they were quite expensive! I have 3 sons - all grown up now - but I did plenty of jeans patching back in the day. Now when I see them I always offer to patch up their jeans knowing full well that they PAID for them to look like that... ;) If only I would have been smart enough and 'cutting edge' and started the holey jeans fashion, I could have saved myself SO much time - maybe even could have had my boys wear out jeans to sell.. dang...
