October 2012 Weight Loss Adventure with a Prize!!!!!

On October 1st weigh yourself and write it down. Do NOT send it to me. On October 31st weigh yourself again and PM me with your loss. This is weight lost not % lost. I will announce the winner November 2nd.

PM me for address. FQ’s need to be received no later than the 15th of month.

You cannot win 2 months in a row.

Chit chat is allowed, as well as WAYWO, (what are we working on). Please stay positive and uplifting as that is what keeps us on track. Come to this thread for tips, recipes, encouragement and {{{{HUGS}}}}}}

The prize is a themed FQ. At the end of the month, I will mail all the FQ’s received to the winner by the 5th of the month. I will contact the winner and announce the winner with the number of FQ’s they will receive.

October fall is in full swing and gets some of us thinking of the upcoming holidays. Theme this month will be shades of green Fabrics, what reminds you of Christmas. Please send quality what you would want to receive. As always if you cannot send the theme fabric please send what you have. If you don't have a FQ, send a linear 1/4 yard. If you have signed up to be in the competition, please send the FQ to hostess by the 10th of the month. The winner has worked hard for this reward.

Eat healthy, exercise, try and lose weight but most of all have fun!!!!!!!!!!!

Sign up deadline to be included in the Prize Adventure is October 4th at 9 p.m. CST, with your FQ received by the 15th of month. You can always contribute to the thread, but it is only fair to have a cutoff for those trying to win.

TO PARTICIPATE, JUST SIGN IN HERE ON THIS THREAD BEFORE SEPTEMBER 4TH. THERE IS NO NEED TO PM FOR PARTICIPATION, JUST YOUR ENDING WEIGHT LOSS FOR THE MONTH.

You must sign into the thread at least weekly to be eligible for the winning "skinny quarters" or to be declared "best loser for the month."

tell us all about your vacation when you get back. If you feel waiting until November to start is better, cause I know we dont always do what is best when on vacation. have a great trip.

If you still want to join in for October please send you FQ before you head out of town.

createfourpaws 09-30-2012 06:13 AM

Ladies,

Please remember to include your screen name somewhere on the envelope or inside. I have several that I only have last name and with that I don't know who to give credit to. Thank you for your help.

I will be posting what the themes will be for all of next year for those who like to send in multiple months. And if anyone has suggestion, I am all ears.

Keep up your hard work on losing. I didn't do as well last month.

CountryHouseQuilter 09-30-2012 06:28 AM

Most of us use the home scale, so yes it is ok.

Enjoy your vacation.

CountryHouseQuilter 10-01-2012 06:59 AM

hey, did I miss between ping ponging between last months board and this months - who won?

Pam H 10-01-2012 07:19 AM

I'm in for October. Good luck, everyone!

Vanogay 10-01-2012 08:40 AM

I'm in for October. I sent in my FQ's last month for all four months posted - or was it three. I dunno, I've slept since then. Anyway, I'm in for a LOSS - a BIG loss - which means I need to be more aware of my exercise. I don't think I eat that badly, I just don't exercise.
Pam asked me to take over for the Taboo Tuesdays. I saw a posting in September about Try it Tuesdays (thinking positive versus negative), so I'll try to mix it up. BUT, that being said, I need your help. What types of things make you gain - what types of things might you like to try? Let me know what I can add to this post to help us all. Thanks.

Everose 10-01-2012 10:41 AM

Cindy, I'm back in for October. Need a lot of accountability!!! Please!!! But I need to know what the FQ's are for the next months. Will send them out Wed. when I go see Mom.

Most of Mom's furniture went to an auction on Saturday. Now I'm getting ready to take a lot of hers and ours to a garage sale. Lot of boxes sitting around - and I hate the feeling it brings. But whatever we can get rid of now will be that much less when DH retires and we move. 2 1/2 years to detrash and declutter. I'll need every bit of that time it looks like.

DH is out of town this week, so I'm going to try to be very good on the eating. Thank goodness, all the "junk food" is out of the house.

Be good to YOU!!!

blondeslave 10-01-2012 12:10 PM

I know I've been MIA September but want to join again. I swear my FQ will go out ASAP. Was doing a fundraiser for Senior Hounds Abound in Florida and it just suced up my time. Haven't even looked at this site for like 2 weeks.

please

sewNso 10-01-2012 03:00 PM

yes it is the cooking season. everyplace i look i see recipes, lots made with choc. i'm ignoring them all. BUT OHHHH, DO THEY LOOK GOOD. ate beef today for the lst time in 2 months. wow, was it ever good.

lauriejo 10-01-2012 03:54 PM

Well I guess that is one benefit of having to go gluten free, the flours are more expensive so I don't bake cookies much anymore. I will probably make a few dozen around the holidays. Boy I agree Kathleen, I really need to move more. I don't eat much junk, but I do probably eat portions that are too big and I don't get enough exercise.

Vanogay 10-02-2012 04:08 AM

Taboo Tuesday - this week, on a positive note - add an extra helping of veggies to your daily diet along with that water and exercise.

Jim's Gem 10-02-2012 09:05 AM

More veggies is a good thing. I go to a nutrition class that my Endocrinologist wants me to go to and the Nutritionist stresses eating veggies. She wants us to eat 2 cups of cooked veggies for lunch every day. That's 2 cups of cooked veggies, not 2 cups of veggies, cooked. I am not so good at getting that in. Though I do have about a cup of veggies in my eggs every morning.

CountryHouseQuilter 10-02-2012 09:32 AM

Lucky me, I love veggies, just don't get to cook that much anymore being on shifts. I try to cook large quantities when I'm off so DH & DD have things to eat while I'm at work, plus I have stuff to take to eat. I'll be going to buy broccoli, brussel sprouts and cauliflower soon, from the Amish. I usually take my Mom and we fill the car. Then come home and blanch and freeze it all. I can eat broccoli till it comes out my ears. The cauliflower I cook and put in the food processor with herbs, butter, garlic & cheese. I make "fake" potatoes. Love it that way.

sewNso 10-02-2012 10:43 AM

ct'y hs qlt----and eating those 2 veggies will really help you lose wt. me too. but i try to add in beets, carrots, fresh salads, g.beans, sqaush, and okra and tomatoes. those are the things i raise so try and use them. good luck this month everyone.

createfourpaws 10-02-2012 11:46 AM

The winner for September with an 11 lb weight loss is sewNso. Congrats. Keep up your hard work.

createfourpaws 10-02-2012 11:51 AM

I see you all talking about baking and being gluten free. I am including a reciepe I found on FB, at you can put just about anything in it you like. I copies the reciepe then copied some of the comments that was posted about it for my reference. I haven't tried them yet because I don't have all the ingredients but it looks very good.

The most awesome breakfast cookie ever - and no flour, no sugar, no dairy.

1.5 cups of oats,
2-3 super ripened bananas
,1 cup of unsweetened applesauce,
Add walnuts, pecans, splash of almond,
a handful of craisins,
and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
Just throw everything together, mix it up pretty well, throw it on a baking sheet at 350 for about 35 minutes and then go to town! Great and

I added 1/4 cup flax seeds, 1 Tbls brown sugar, and added 1/2 cup of chopped walnuts, and 1/2 cup of almond butter. They are very good!

For those who have asked, we use old fashioned, thick cut oats. Yes, they are drop cookies and yes, bake for 35 minutes. :) I don't think they are like granola, but not like other oatmeal cookies either. We have also added 1/2 cup peanut butter and mini dark chocolate chips, and we have also made them using raisins instead of craisins and adding chopped walnuts

You can use regular oats or quick..you can also add raisins craisins cranberries, whatever you want..I do one with 2 cups of oats and 8 ounces of applesauce or anything pureed as long as it's 8 ounces and skip the bananas and it makes healthy pet cookies too

oh, so yummy! I make these OFTEN.. almost every week. these make a great breakfast on the go! my recipe is a bit different: 2 cups quick oatmeal, and 1/2 c applesauce, and add 1/4 c milk. but the rest of the recipe is same as yours. AND I always add some chopped nuts (for some protein) and many times i add a few mini chocolate chips - for my chocolate fix! : )

irishrose 10-02-2012 12:08 PM

Congratulations, sewNso. :D:D I had a feeling it would be you. I hope you like autumn themed fabrics.

I am ready to make some granola. I bought another one at the health food store yesterday that smells like stale oil. It's prepackaged from a good company and not due out until April of next year. The last one was a bulk item so I wasn't as surprised. I will take it back and get the ingredients to make my own. It sounds like your recipe could be baked broken up for granola, Cindy. I do have all the ingredients though I think I'd like less (or no) banana and more other pureed fruit. I'm not a fan of cooked bananas. If I leave it as a cookie, I will have to make either two or three - probably three, otherwise I'd eat the whole thing at once.

I'm tired. I pulled more weeds, did some TV exercises and sewed a strip of blocks in my quilt. I'm having reservations about this being a bazaar quilt, but I don't know what I'd do with it if I don't use it for that. No red or yellow rooms here. Whoops, the laundry room is yellow and pink, but it doesn't need a quilt and certainly not this one with so much red. Off to clean the kitchen before my daughter comes to go out to dinner.

Have a wonderful month, everyone, newcomers and returnees alike. I will post a list on the 4th.
I AM losing weight and getting healthier.
Judy

sewNso 10-02-2012 12:27 PM

wow, thank you. i am so excited.

createfourpaws 10-02-2012 12:38 PM

I have a few bananas in the freezer, but no applesauce. I think I have everything else. I will check it out for when I do my next shopping. I think that you could change to any fruit pruee. Give it a try and see what happens.

I have used my bananas for banana nut bread in the past.

Judy- i wonder if it is possible that even thou the granola wasn't out of date it they didnt use some older oil not realizing that it would go rancid. I have gotten one like that before.

So what is everyone working on these days? I am still working on the t-shirt quilts.

Remember you are in control of what you put in your body and what you choose to do. Drink your water and eat your veggies.

CountryHouseQuilter 10-02-2012 01:19 PM

sewNso - congratulations!!!!! That is AWESOME!!!!! Keep up the good work!!!!

Irish - I need to pull weeds. Just can't seem to get motivated to do that one chore. Maybe this weekend in the evenings after work if the weather is good. Rainy today, so not going to happen. I need to cut back my butterfly bushes as well, they've taken over!!

I'm working on making a Mondo Bag (quiltsmart) with my Ravens football fabric. Also got the fabric to put the finish the borders on my flannel quilt. And I have a quilt on the longarm waiting for me to quilt - still working out the design. My quilting room is a wreck right now, stuff everywhere. Need to really reorganize.

Vanogay 10-02-2012 01:20 PM

COngratulations Sewnso. 11 pounds puts me to shame. If you can do it, I'll try very hard to give you a run for your money (or fat quaters) in October.

sewNso 10-02-2012 01:38 PM

vanogay. bring it on. this will be my 3rd month of dieting. and since i won the FQ this month, i can't next. but we'll do a mini 'run for the money', just between the 2 of us, if you want. winner gets an extra 2 FQ. what say? about the 3rd month, or after 20 lbs, i usually 'lose it'.

meanmom 10-02-2012 02:00 PM

Cindy, I have made those cookies several times they are really good

Pam H 10-02-2012 03:31 PM

I am working on my 12 identical blocks for a block swap. I have the first 4 almost done. I hope to finish during a retreat next week. They are getting a little easier and looking better as I go along. I have to have them done by the end of this month.
Is anyone going to the quilt show in Houston? I am thinking about going.

I'm in for a "Mini Run" just between the 2 of us. An extra 2 FQ? Okay. With that kind of incentive, I'd better do something - other than just hold it which is what I did in September.

irishrose 10-02-2012 04:46 PM

I've made both banana bread and cake, but not for me. I have some little containers of mango, raspberry, strawberry sauce so I can use some of those. Hummingbird cake with bananas, pineapple and pecans with cream cheese frosting has to be good if you like cooked bananas. I'll take mine without the bananas, then it would be a Mexican Wedding cake. I eat a raw banana almost every day for potassium for my heart. Just don't cook them.

My oldest daughter took me to the only waterfall in the lower peninsula of Michigan before we went to dinner. The colors of the trees are magnificent. I thought I wanted my ashes sprinkled at the waterfall, but the hike was a little rough. Two of my daughters would have difficulty, so it's back to the drawing board. I had my phone in my pocket because I forgot my camera. I was so busy trying to stay on the little walking bridge and not slide into the creek after I got across that I forgot to take any pictures. Oh well, mind pictures are better.

I had a meaty omelet and a fruit cup at Bob Evans' for dinner. Off to walk the dogs again and then back to the bazaar quilt. I may go to bed early. I've had more fresh air today than I normally get.
