I will be in for October again. I am cleaning up my fabric stash and boy do I have a pile of fat quarters I did not realize I had because I tossed them in with the scraps. Silly me. think I can make a fat quarter quilt and then some. Will send one off to you this week.

JuneBillie 09-30-2013 09:50 AM

I am in again. It is uplifting to come here, even if to pray for what all is going on. I have got to get to my next project. I am trying to stay steady working on Christmas gifts for family this year. I will try to get my fat/skinny quarter out this week.

Vanogay 09-30-2013 11:00 AM

I'm in for October, as well. Hopefully, this group will keep me thinking about what I eat - what I plan to eat and what I won't eat!!!

Teddybear Lady 09-30-2013 03:44 PM

I'm in again. I'll go through my fabric and come up with something to send you. Who would have ever imagined that fabric would be a great motivator for me to lose weight! haha Whatever works huh!

Pam H 09-30-2013 03:57 PM

I'm in again. Just went for a walk and now eating an apple while the oven heats up. I'm planning on a good, healthy, nutritious month!

createfourpaws 10-01-2013 06:54 AM

I need to find some hand work to take to the hospital with me, I know I have some snow ladies hand embroidery. I got to find them and get the going to keep me busy. I will be taking my laptop with me. Mom's surgery is scheduled for Nov 1st at 7 15 am. will be there for 3-4 days. I will be staying with her the whole time. The only time I will leave the hospital is when her husband comes up to relieve me during the day to go home and shower. I know I will be ready for my bed when I get home.

Will also plan my snacks and meals while I am there.

Pam H 10-01-2013 07:37 AM

Those will be tough days, Cindy, but you can get through them. Sounds like you will be very prepared.
Just recorded my weight and breakfast on myfitnesspal. Time to get serious!

countrymaid 10-01-2013 10:51 AM

Cindy, your mom is blessed to have you. Do remember to walk and stretch, just sitting takes a lot out of you.

I'm in again. The challenge keeps me trying to make progress. It's apple season in NY so I'm a happy person.

createfourpaws 10-01-2013 01:21 PM

As a reminder, if you wish to send in 3 months again....
Of course this month is senders choice

November is any blue/white
December is Batiks

meanmom 10-01-2013 03:02 PM

I'm in again.

Pam H 10-01-2013 06:32 PM

I think I now have the motivation I need to really get serious about losing weight. My twin sister is following one of those protein shake diet plans and losing quite a bit of weight. Well, I can't let her be thinner than me, can I? I wish I could live with my younger sister for a few months. We really motivate each other to eat right and exercise (when we are together). I think I will see if there is a TOPS group in my area. I need something to go to every week to keep me on track and I do think that paying out money helps me. I guess I need to invest a little money in order to reap the reward. Let's do this, ladies!

QuilterMomma 10-02-2013 08:55 AM

Now batiks in December, is that a motivator not to eat all those Christmas goodies? Great thinking to keep us on track. Love that one.

See I knew what I was thinking when I chose to do the Batiks again in December......we all need some kind of motivation to stay away from some of those goodies.

Batiks will be done each quarter next year, since it is so popular. Would love to hear some of your ideas of what we should do in the coming year.

Jim's Gem 10-03-2013 10:29 AM

I'm in again. Hopefully I can at least lose the weight I gained from all the stress.
I will try to get my FQ's off here in the next couple of days.

meanmom 10-03-2013 03:31 PM

I will send my Fq this weekend I hope. The student who is making all of us insane at school is suspended until next week. He isn't allowed to return to school until Tuesday. Not sure yet what the plan is for when he returns. Our classroom is a totally different environment yesterday and today. With only 22 days of school completed our class is 3 days behind the other second grade classes on academics. He was removed from the classroom 3 times yesterday 3 times before 10 AM.
I need to get back to weight watchers. I am going Saturday morning. Life has been a little bit crazy here for several months and I got away from it. I know it is a program that works for me. Knowing that I can make anything I want fit into my program works for my brain.
Prayers going out to all who are needing them. Healthy eating to all.
Pat

JuneBillie 10-03-2013 04:37 PM

Meanmom, I remember those kind of days oh so well. Before I had to retire early teaching special ed. I had this one student who was just spoiled. He learned what he could get away with. The principal let him too just to avoid his parents threatening to send him somewhere else. I would try to get class started with my students, and he would grin and say he needed to use the bathroom. I would let him go then as soon as he got back he would say he needed to go again, and would repeat this maybe 10 times. He didn't have a health issue going on. I finally got so upset, and called the principal to come and get him so I could have class. She would throw it all back on me. This student had caused every teacher he ever had problems that would cause their class to stop. I had other kids who functioned low, but they would try their best. This student did not function low, but caused a lot of trouble. Such is life. lol...

meanmom 10-04-2013 03:23 AM

Not sure how it has happened but I am ready for work early this morning. I have 15 minutes to play on the computer. I am in a regular classroom this year. The student that is making us crazy is not special ed. We are pretty sure he is oppositional defiant and somewhere on the autism spectrum. Not properly diagnosed. He is listed as just low academically. I think what makes us so crazy is that you will ask him not to do something and he will look at you and grin and then do it. He knows what he is doing is wrong. He was sent home a week ago and spent the day playing video games and playing outside.
I jumped on the elliptical last night for 30 minutes. WOW it is amazing how quickly you loose your endurance when you skip exercise for a few weeks. I'm not sore but man was I winded exercising. I really need to make myself go to spinning class. It is either at 6 AM or 6:30 PM. NOt sure I can make it to work with the morning class. Once I get home at night I have a hard time making myself leave for the gym. I have been trying to get my DH to go with me. He is working on weight loss too. (finally) It is so annoying how easily men loose weight. He is barely trying and has dropped 18 pounds.

Vanogay 10-04-2013 04:05 AM

I'm not sure what it is to have a hubby needing to lose weight. Mine eats everything - and I do mean everything and never gains any weight. We figured when he hit 40 perhaps the metabolism would slow down and that would change - then we upped the age to 60 and again to 70. So far, nothing. I hate having to watch everything I eat and he eats everything he wants - and more!

createfourpaws 10-04-2013 05:12 AM

Our September winner is JuneBillie. Congrats

Awesome JuneBillie! Well done girl.

JuneBillie 10-04-2013 08:59 AM

Thanks Cindy, and QuilterMomma. I am soooo happy to have lost the weight. I lost 10.8 lbs. With my doctor putting me on a diet, besides my already on one, and lowering my salt, I guess that helped more than I thought. Even though I love the batiks too like all of you, I have to admit to a little secret. I LOVE florals. I guess because of how much I love working with flowers, so I am one happy person. I will be able to make lots of plans now for so many pretty things to sew. I am doing the happy dance! :D

JuneBillie 10-04-2013 09:04 AM

I am 6 weeks, and craving Reeses's Fastbreak. QuilterMomma this is wonderful. Funny thing is, I always love anything Reeses.

Teddybear Lady 10-04-2013 11:18 AM

Haha...I'm 14 weeks and craving dairy milk. I guess I'm a health nut! haha

Pam H 10-04-2013 11:29 AM

I'm 1 week and craving cherry jello. Don't know that I have ever craved that but it does sound kind of good. ;)

createfourpaws 10-04-2013 02:03 PM

6 weeks craving Hershey Kisses

JuneBillie 10-04-2013 04:19 PM

Cindy, I think that is a sign for your dates. :)

meanmom 10-05-2013 04:59 AM

Congratulations JuneBillie. That is awesome. Enjoy your winnings. I am taking a class tomorrow that is miniature paper piecing. It is supposed to be a new easier method of PP. I plan to use the batiks I won on this project.
I am 13 weeks and craving bubblegum. (it should have been something chocolate)

CindyA 10-05-2013 07:08 AM

So my 17 yr old son just told me that he cut out snacks this week and lost 8 lbs. A little envious here. :) He wrestles and is working on increasing strength and endurance. After wrestling season he plays rugby.

My hair dresser told me she keeps a package of fresh spinach in her freezer and crumbles it over different dishes during the week. I may have mentioned this before. I have a package in the freezer and am going to try it with some vegetable stew I made.

I'm in again and will send my fat quarter asap.

createfourpaws 10-06-2013 06:41 AM

Good morning ladies. We are small group this month.

Men seem too lose weight so much easier than we do.

Keep up the good work.

too small a group not many FQ's for the winner....lol

I agree with you on a smaller group bigger chance of winning the pot.

JuneBillie 10-06-2013 08:51 PM

Tonight has been a down pour of rain. Smells so fresh though. It's been a lazy day. Any one working on some Christmas projects?

Pam H 10-06-2013 09:42 PM

I am working on a Christmas present tonight. I am making a fleece blanket for my SonIL. It is Packer fleece. Feels good on my lap while I am tying it since it is pretty chilly here.
Drove to Iowa for the weekend to visit my mom. I can see that she is not getting around as well as she used to. It's good that she lives in a tri-level house because the only exercise she gets is going up and down the stairs to the bathroom and then to bed. She spent the summer sitting and reading. I wish she would realize that she needs to do a little exercising to keep her mobility. She had a pulmonary embolism several years ago and says that it hurts her legs to walk very far.
Did anyone watch the Ellen show on friday? The couple that had their house made over for the HGTV cousins show is from the town where I grew up. It was strange to hear them say Panora, IA on tv. I really didn't like what they did with the house. Oh well.
I've been having migraines everyday with this low pressure front hanging over us. We need the rain but I sure am tired of the headaches.

Jim's Gem 10-07-2013 10:42 AM

I finally finished quilting the boarders for my newest Grand son's quilt. today I will try and get the binding on. He is only 9 1/2 months......
I also quilted 2 small quilts for my 3rd daughter's classroom. She got her first full-time teaching position this year. She is a TK (Transitional Kindergarten) teacher. Basically the kids who are still 4 and didn't turn 5 before October 2. These 28 kids are all going to be 5 before December 2. She would have preferred older kids (4th or 5th grade) but this is where she is. I made 2 quilts for her reading corner.
I also got one other lap size quilt quilted that is going to be donated to our guild. I got all the bindings cut last night and hope to get them on the quilts by machine today and then hand sewn this week.
I had been avoiding my machine. It still has 2 - 1/4" lines coming down across the screen. The part won't be available until the end of the year. It was making me depressed just thinking about it. But I had been playing games on the computer so much that I am having issues with pain in my elbow. It doesn't bother me as much to sew. Guess I should do some sewing and stop playing LOTRO!
I hope to get started on some fall garden stuff today. I bought some spinach, snow peas, pole beans and kale plants to put in the ground as well as broccoli, 3 kids of lettuce, spinach, green onion, kale and snow pea seeds I want to sew. We have very mild winters around here. I have never done a fall/winter garden but thought I would try. My tomatoes did not do well this year, we had a cold, foggy summer and they did not like that, Neither did the zucchini and yellow squash plants. I still have peppers producing though.
It was 92 degrees or hotter the last 3 days. Today is supposed to be only 82 and maybe some rain by Wednesday. That would be great. We had the Santa Ana's blowing over the weekend and everything is bone dry!

Looks like I am 13 weeks and craving pickles. Hey that sounds good. Maybe I will have a pickle later....

meanmom 10-07-2013 01:22 PM

I mailed my FQ today. I agree I wish we were a group of smaller people instead of a small group. I need to get started on my Christmas projects but I haven't yet. I have a baby quilt I am making for a customer that only needs the borders quilted and binding. The quilt I made for my GS needs binding and I need to make a baby quilt for my niece. I was thinking of doing something with HST's. My DS wants a tetris quilt. They actually go pretty fast I made one several years ago. I was going to make my DIL a professional tote but if I don;t get to it I have other ideas. I also planned to make my DD and SIL a quilt, all for Christmas. There is a good chance my DD is going to get a bag of fabric. Life just keeps getting in the way of my quilting.
DD and the grandkids are on their way so probably no quilting again tonight. What I really need is a nap.

Smaller waistlines (I'm not going to give up!) - not smaller group. The more friends the better. :) You all give me so much inspiration and hope.

I'm on my way to the gym now. I give credit to my DH, he is usually better about making himself exercise but we both need to improve eating habits. And I know if I don't keep moving my joints are SO going to freeze up on me.

Prayers to the many on this thread that need them.

irishrose 10-07-2013 01:41 PM

Somehow I missed signing up this month and guess what ? I'm gaining weight. My candy tooth is working overtime. I need to get all the candy out the house.

I am waiting for a roofer so I can sign the contract. I finally found one that 1) came when he said he would, 2) gave me an estimate in a timely fashion and 3) had a reasonable price. I am going to have a pretty red metal roof. Woohoo!

Has anyone made stuffed green peppers with chicken instead of beef? I'll let you know how they turn out.

Working on? That same quilt I have been expanding for a friend. I actually am working on it today. If I don't get off it the machine, then I can't do anything fun so I AM doing it.

My daughter may get a bag of fabric, too. With a family of 40 to have gifts for, I can't get too involved in a quilt at Christmas.

Have a great day, y'all.

createfourpaws 10-07-2013 02:57 PM

Well at the request of my PCP, I saw a podiatrist today for my feet, only because I am diabetic. Finally got a great report on something. He told me I don't have the feet of a diabetic they are in great shape. I told him I get regular pedicures and he asked if they cut my nails also. I said yes, and they have even gotten out a few hang nails as they were just starting.

It is nice to get a good report on some things in my health no matter how small.

Yes I want to see a smaller waist instead of a smaller group.

I am working on some commitments that I need to have finished prior to mom's surgery on Nov 1st. I have a table runner to complete the binding on, then can mail it off. Need to finish a doll quilt in fall them that is late, will get that done and ready to go, and last but not least the boom swap, have about 14 blocks to complete to send off.

I also want to make a quilt for my DS & DIL, will probably not happen in time for christmas, maybe their 4th anniversay in June. May make a small one for their little 4 legged baby Jayden, she is part chihuahua part poodle.

Irish----if you want to send in a FQ you can. We all need the support
