This may be a stupid question, but do they do C-sections on horses? Especially if there appears to be problems. I wish we knew what was going on.
|
me too, have had the board on all day, don't want to miss any news.
|
so sorry for the mommy horse. I had my first breech with no meds.
won't be doing that again! course I ain't in the foaling business no more either  |
Sorry to bear bad news. copying Joannes post :(
I am operating on about an hours sleep. But I wanted to touch basis with all of you. [/color] We lost them both. The foal was dead when she went into labor. All for legs were in various stages in the pelvis. The foal was upside down. The head and front legs had turned into position to foal, but the muzzle was caught under the pelvic rim. I had no muzzle, just the crown of the head. We tried here to reposition, then went on to two other vet practices several hours away. The last vet was able to get the foal repositioned and out, but Precious' gut came out as well. We euthanize her a few minutes later. I knew the foal was dead. Just did not expect to loose the mare as well. A first for us. Thank you all for watching with me. I am unable to read your comments right now without crying, but I will read every one of them. I promise. |
I am so , so sorry for this loss, I have tuned in every day to watch Precious. I feel so sorry for you all, I'm sure they become part of your family.
Know that my heart goes out to all of you. I cry along with you.  |

Kay, thank you so much for starting this thread. I had been watching Precious for over a week. I even had my laptop set up next to the bed, so I could open one eye, check and then go back to sleep. Precious was so funny, and fun to watch! I know that Joann did everything she could possibly do, and my heart goes out to her. I've been crying on and off ever since it started, and I know she is devastated. Send her all our hugs and love and support. Thanks.
|
Please pass on my condolences to Joann too. Such a sad day. She was truly Precious - I can just picture her now with her wings.

I sent Joanne a link to this thread so she'd be able to read your messages. Maybe Kay did the same--that's okay, too.
Losing a foal is bad, losing the mare and the foal--it just doesn't get any worse than that. |
I am so sorry for Joanne and her mare and foal. Thoughts her way!

I just found this thread, and am so sad. I was fascinated by the last foaling and had my kids watching her and the new baby! I didn't realize this had happened, and am so sad.
Is Joanne on this board? Was Precious in the same link as the last horse (whose name is slipping my mind at the moment, sorry!!) This is so sad. |

We just started watching her because she was a bit over due and another pair of eyes, in my opinion, is always a good thing. Precious was interesting to watch. The farm, if you went to the website has some pretty pictures on it. The only mare stare that we do is Kays. We have watched other horses, such as Diana (Bit O Blue) last year, and I think, if I remember correctly, it was one of our ladies that made the call about Diana foaling. But, we will watch other mares if we know about them. Kay will usually tell us if another mare needs help being watched. |
