Sounds really silly, but on those occasions when I am traveling on business (or even on a quilters' retreat away from home) when I call hubby and son to say I miss them, I also request to talk to the cat! She purrs at me and hubby holds the phone near her.
Who else admits to talking to their pets on the telephone?

Any funny stories?

TanyaL 09-19-2011 05:00 PM

Goodness no

Sadiemae 09-19-2011 05:00 PM

Not unless my little Poodle learns to answer the phone too.

When we babysit our little grand-dog....I always hold the phone up to her ear when DD calls.... and she tilts her little "pug" head this way & that when DD talks.... can't imagine anything cuter!

SLHughes 09-19-2011 05:08 PM

I must admit that I do also. We have a small daschund/chiuahua ... she loves it when I talk to her over the phone... she will talk back ... she barks ... She is just like another part of the family. :-)

nativetexan 09-19-2011 05:33 PM

ha, ha. mine wouldn't listen. :XD:

bluteddi 09-19-2011 05:37 PM

I used to have a couple of cats that used to answer the wall phone all the time... it was so frustrating when they would not hang it back up... u could hear them meowing into the phone...LOL..

currently , no.. I do not speak to my cats on the phone... thankfully these guys have not learned to answer it..

Murphy 09-19-2011 05:44 PM

I imagine many people do this and just don't admit it (laughter). Thanks for being so wonderfully honest!!

Me too! Tink is a chihuahua and loves to talk and kiss on the phone...She talks to my Mom at least once a week....Mom needs her kisses from her granddog...

Joan 09-19-2011 05:45 PM

Of course......why not?

I talk to them all the time at home....

GreatStarter 09-19-2011 05:52 PM

I have to admit when I would be away on business trips and called home, and got the answering machine...well I knew our lab, would hear my voice and not understand where I was..so yes I talked to him and called him by name. My family claimed he loved it when they played back the answering machine to get messages and he heard my voice and then reheard me talking to him. He always would tilt his head from side to side when he heard my voice.

Dang right I do... Our dogs are part of our family and if I can miss them when I am gone I am sure they miss me.. ( I think) lol.. Mommy and daddy always talk to the dogs when one of us is away. Heck they talk to grandpa on the phone almost every night.. lol..

Painiacs 09-19-2011 06:14 PM

Yes I do and kids and my bff talks to her too!!! Hubby has too on occas! The only one she really takes notice of?? My son! Lol. She loves her boy!!! :)

COYOTEMAGIC 09-19-2011 06:15 PM

Nah, mine are deaf but I'm trying to teach them to use a TTY!

Greenheron 09-19-2011 06:17 PM

No, but when I talk to my son one of his GSDs (the one who likes me) hears my voice and reacts to it.

Sadiemae 09-19-2011 06:18 PM

It can be very calming for our pets to hear our voices. When I went to pick up my Molly after her teeth were cleaned, she quieted right down when she heard my voice. I only know this because I commented on how quiet she was, and I said I was surprised. The Vet Tech looked at me and said, "She hasn't beeen!" So, I guess my baby was quite naughty. They were ready for her to go home, so they wouldhn't have her whining and barking in the kennel.

LAQUITA 09-19-2011 06:33 PM

Funny story...okay. Anytime hubby and I would go out of town, we would call home to check in at night. Our girls would say,'mom you've got to talk to Chole, she knows your gone and she won't settle down. She looks all over the house for you....hubby says 'that is the most ridicilous thing for you to talk to A DOG!!

Fast forward a few months later when I am on a women's retreat. and all home to chck in and guess what hubby asks me to do??? You got it, he says' I cant believe Im admitting this, but you've got to talk to YOUR dog, she won't settle down, she goes all over the hous looking for you ......

Once I talk to her on the phone, she settles down, and curls up in her bed and goes to sleep.
That;s my girl. :)

auntpiggylpn 09-19-2011 06:37 PM

Yes I do and I am not ashamed to admit it!!!

Caswews 09-19-2011 06:41 PM

well I do and always have talked to my dogs. I talked to my cats & the birds when I had them too !LOL

wanda lou 09-19-2011 06:42 PM

Sure I do.

Aubo 09-19-2011 06:49 PM

Yep, I sure do! My Bellie Mae is my baby, and I get so homesick for her! She does for me too. When I'm at work, even if there are others home, she just lays around and mopes (or so they have told me) and springs up at the sound of every passing car. What would we do without our little loves in our lives?

Country1 09-19-2011 07:07 PM

Well of course, they're my fur babies!...

New Quilter 09-19-2011 07:29 PM

When I'm talking to my Mom on the phone, my Devil Doggie can hear her, so Mom always wants to talk to her "Grand-Fur-Baby"...Naomi

jaciqltznok 09-19-2011 08:03 PM

not only do I talk to them while I am gone, but when my BFF calls every night, she talks to them too...sad huh???

nycbgirl 09-19-2011 10:16 PM

When we had a home phone with answering machine I would call and leave msgs for my babies. All the time.

Sienna's GiGi 09-20-2011 12:03 AM

Yes! I do.

Ginknee309 09-20-2011 12:11 AM

Oh yes, our pomeranians love it! When my husband calls me, "his baby" recognizes the ring tone and comes to me so he can talk to "Daddy!"

pojo 09-20-2011 03:02 AM

yes, we do leave a message they can hear it while it records.

QultingaddictUK 09-20-2011 03:13 AM

I don't as she is always with me but when my Sister and Brother are on the phone she loves listening to them, in fact insists on it by jumping up on my lap and nudging my arm :P

Grammie Sharon 09-20-2011 03:20 AM

I do too. Our beagles are part of the family and usually we call home to make sure they are ok. Daughter says what about me? LOL>

quilt-fanatic 09-20-2011 03:40 AM

Fear of being commited to a place for the mentally challenged, but yes, when I leave a msg for DH, I always say Hi to the dog. He seems to be the only one that actually listens!

Michellesews 09-20-2011 03:45 AM

My husband has been in Afghanistan for 5 months, sometimes when he calls I put him on speaker phone and he talks to our two doxies...they start running around looking for him though. He is just afraid they will forget him....but they won't. He is too liberal with the treats!

hudgoddess 09-20-2011 03:53 AM

My dog talks to my husband when we iChat. (DH is out of town for work)
He also watched tv...the dog, not the hubby. His favorite movie is "Eight Below"

Joset 09-20-2011 03:57 AM

Yes i do. when we have to be gone overnight. i always call the answering machine and talk with the dog and cat. and see what they are up too. lol

Venice 09-20-2011 05:01 AM

I don't have any pets but my sister does! She has 2 dogs that are her children since she can't have any. But one day her Sharpei bit the UPS man and they called the "dog police" and they put him in quarantine for three days, something about rabies. Well, this just broke her heart! So everyday that Popeye was there she took him a happy meal from McDonalds and would sit there with him and drink the drink while he ate the food. Also, she doesn't have any handsets for all the cordless phones in her house because the dogs ate them, but she does call home once or twice a day to say hello to them through the answering machine.

Quilt Mom 09-20-2011 05:07 AM

When I have to travel for a time, I will talk to my pug when I call home, and she sneezes back at me! When my DD calls, the dog will sit and listen to DD's voice, and cock her head this way and that, wondering why she can't see 'her' girl.

Sunflower Girl 09-20-2011 05:20 AM

Of course I do, I have to tell them I'll be home soon. Don't know if my husband would admit it publicly, but he does too!!

JANICE E. 09-20-2011 05:40 AM

I just was away and my daughter took care of my peke named POOKIE. She called me and said mom Pookie has been crying since you left and won't eat. She put the dog on the phone so I could talk to him. I hate leaving my dog as he is 11 yrs and he is set in his ways. SO YES I do speak to my dog on the phone.
