The flower is from 8 squares 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 make two four patchs.....make like a heart template....sew right sides together....turn I put batting and poly beads in mine....guess anything for weight would work ...they suggest 1 cup of flax seed...3 buttons.... strap is 2 x 18.....bag is 2 rectangles 7 x 14....I used lite wonder under to make it stiff....that is it....

PamH....It goes together fast....and was fun...I've made two now....Hey do you remember where you found your pattern????

Craftybug 09-01-2008 04:14 AM

sewsewquilter 09-01-2008 04:20 AM

That turned out cute! I remember seeing that pattern, but don't ask me where. I am still using the pin cushion I had in HS home ec. Thought about making this pattern and thought no keeping the 30 plus year old pin cushion. :D

That turned out to be soo cute! I had printed that pattern myself the other day but haven't gotten around to making it yet. I was thinking maybe a few for Christmas. Now I'll have to get busy with it since you "tested" it out  I think I found it on McCalls website but not really sure.

mary quite contrary 09-01-2008 08:57 AM

Thank you for the pattern. I was wondering what I would work on today since I don't want to do what I need to do.

I think I'll make a "Pincushion and Scrap Catcher.

quilterj 09-01-2008 09:05 AM

Thank you Cathie. I love and downloaded it too.

bj 09-01-2008 11:38 AM

I have two of those. One I use as a snippet for threads and slivers that have been trimmed off when I square a block up. The other one I only use for binding. After I get my binding strip ready, I accordion fold it and put down in my snippet bag. It feeds out really nicely when I'm sewing the binding onto my quilt. It holds the weight of the binding and it feeds it smoothly to the machine.

all4quilt 09-01-2008 11:43 AM

Just TOO cute!! Nice gift idea!

Susan

sewnsewer2 09-01-2008 07:35 PM

Thank you for the directions.

How big is the pin cushion finished?

That would be great for my embroidery needles, sewing and quilting in the different sections.

gcathie 09-01-2008 11:26 PM

mgshaw....yep bj had a grand idea....

Quilt4u...Yep I thought so...gonna need more made around here...

retrogirl02 09-02-2008 09:31 AM

gcathie,
thanks so much for posting this. i am always looking for cute pincushions and this is adorable! my mom kinda collects them, she's got them all over her sewing room but like diamonds, you can never have enough! i made one that was a cube not too long ago for her, but this would be a great little addition, for sure.

gcathie 09-02-2008 11:03 AM

sewnsewer2.....You are very welcome!

Quilting Aggi....Thanks....already on that one :D

retrogirl02....Oh how much fun that would be.....bet your a pro at making pincushions...post yours when you get it done....I really like mine...

bj 09-02-2008 11:16 AM

Our guild made them to "sell" (they were free with a $5 or more contribution) at the art festival here. I think we sold 400 or so. We used it as a fundraiser to support our philanthropy project. Ours were really simple...rectangular pin cushion filled with sand for weight and then the bag attached to that. They turned out really cute though.

Marcia 09-02-2008 07:41 PM

really cute, cathie--great gift idea

PrettyKitty 09-02-2008 11:41 PM

Ooooh I love this, I am so gonna try and make it. At the moment I am using a plastic baggie for scraps and threads, but the cats keep running off with it. Although they might try the same with this! Thanks

gcathie 09-03-2008 12:11 PM

bj....that is a very good idea....wow 400 or so......That is great!

Marcia....Thanks... :D

PrettyKitty....good luck with those kittys! If it doesn't want to stay may some velcro....

Paganquilter 11-03-2008 07:04 PM

These are precious! :) Where's the pattern? I'd love to try!

babeegirl 11-03-2008 08:03 PM

uh oh...you mean I'm not supposed to just throw the threads on the floor? I have to put them in something?

live2teach 11-03-2008 08:25 PM

That is really cute!

gcathie 11-03-2008 10:06 PM

Hi girls ...thanks for your comments....the pattern is on page 1 of this post....enjoy I've made several more of these and use all of them in different locations....

Oh yea babeegirl you can still throw them stings on the floor....put your scissors or pins or pencils in the catcher....taaa daaahhhh
