Lots of projects if I have the money. They are mandatory instead of a wish list. My ex, who was a contractor and very good at it, every place except for his own. He built a deck, the decided to enclose it to make a sunroom, then a room for my hot tub. Well, the roof is litterly caving in on the hot tub room, to say the least it hasn't been used in years, the one end of the sunroom is starting to sink, which causes my sliding glass door a pain to open and close. There are lots of other things as well. Now just to find the money to fix them all. I can do it if I get my son to do the work, he's great at it but getting him to do it is another story. My daughter's finace says he'll work on it so we'll see. I can do a lot more if I don't have to pay the labor for the work. Say a prayer for me, I need lots of them. I'm 60 and just want to go to work, then come home and relax and sew and enjoy my life for a change.

Me too! I will be replacing our front door as the hallway inside is too dark. Will replace w/diffused glass to allow light but not view. Also will be redoing the MBR (i.e., wall paint, refinishing floors, new dustruffle - already have the new quilt on the bed) then onto the upstairs bath by removing wallpaper and painting plus adding a cupboard above the toilet. This bathroom has no storage as the sink, very odd shape inside the door, stands on stainless legs and is too narrow for a base. The builder of our home made one major mistake. He/She put the bath at the top of the stairs, straight up for the front door (thus the diffused glad). Must have been a guy!!! Right?

Sounds wonderful! By the way the correct spelling for the German word is "Gemuetlichkeit" ( the u is an Umlaut with 2 dots over the u and no e after it but my computer will not let me do that) :)

This is the year to repaint all the patio furniture. I wanted to do it last year, but ..... well the DGD i watch every day was just an infant...Hoping she will enjoy being in her swing so much that i can paint and push her at the same time !!! :p
Indoors i have been toying with the idea of a "family tree" on the long wall of the hallway....the tree would be black, with family photos in black frames hung like "fruit" on the tree. Still thinking on it. |
Germanquilter,I'm thinking of you. You have a brave and positive attitude. I love your description of your little welcoming space. I hope you have many enjoyable moments there this spring and summer...and beyond.
We are putting our house on the market so sorting, packing and sprucing up is all going on! |
Our house is only 5 years old, so nothing needed inside. However, we just bought 10 bushes to replace ones that were frozen. Lots of dirt work coming my way! I forgot: we had five double glazed windows fail. The warranty was for five years replacement of windows, but no labor. Our son is a glazier and could replace them, but a trip from Seattle to hear isn't a possibility right now. So that will be our major job for now.

Now that it finally feels like spring is upon us, what home projects are you planning? For me, I really hope that this is the year to replace our old sidewalks and replace our old patio with a new patio. I love sitting outside under my patio umbrella and read, etc. Our old patio is a nasty wreck!
Sandy. Let the summer begin! drinks on the patio?! Anyone? sandy |
Our house isn't old, but we're the ones who built it and that was over 30 years ago and it's not finished it. We started the process of really tackling the final work on it last summer and unfortunately, hubby asked me to hire someone I just knew couldn't keep up with the work load. Needless to say, it didn't all get done and some of it needs to be torn apart and redone. I did what I could, but I'm hiring someone else to the rest this year.
First, we need to wait until all the snow is gone and most of the mud dries up. Then I'm changing out all the windows in the house because everyone is so drafty and no longer fit right. Our roof was guaranteed for 25 years and it's lasted for 30, so we got our money's worth and now it's time to change it before we have issues. We're thinking of taking off our small porch and building on a wrap around porch. Maybe, just maybe, I can have a house that's finished and I don't have to think about working on it anymore and just concentrate of my fun projects from now on and of course, the garden in the summer. I will have my share of work to do on the house, mostly painting and a few wood working projects, but I'll be able to trust this new guy to do more on his own. |
