What a gorgeous trunk! My parents have about 9 old trunks that they want to sell. I don't know if any of them have the potential for gorgeousness as yours! How does one go about finding what they may be worth?

stitches2share 10-23-2011 05:58 AM

I am so glad you posted this. She is beautiful. I have the largest trunk I have ever seen given tome by a friend who died a couple of years ago at 90 and it was her mother's. Now I know what to do with it. Right now it houses a polyester king size GFG that is too heave to pick up very much.

mom dusty 10-23-2011 07:42 AM

RuthEm 10-23-2011 08:03 AM

Wow....that's awesome!! Didn't know they could be restored. I had one but sold it at the yard sale. Now I wish I'd kept it! Oh, well. I'll know next time. Thanks for sharing.

BarbaraSue 10-23-2011 08:40 AM

I have my grandfather's trunk, but he stored his wood working tools in it. It smells of grease, and has that look on the inside.
My DH soes woodworking, so we've kept it as is.

Yours look lovely!

Tinabug 10-23-2011 08:56 AM

I can see why that's a favorite.

MaryAnnMc 10-23-2011 10:09 AM

You have doen such a nice job restoring this one. I have one my brother gave me when I moved to Florida 33 years ago. It still has the original paper inside the lid with the name and portrait of the little girl who owned it. I holds lots of blankets and afghans. No quilts yet, just give me time.

johnnietate1225 10-23-2011 10:19 AM

Aww, the toad turned in to a Prince! How beautiful. I hope you share some more of your restored finds.

I redo trunks too. I scrub them with clorox and soap, just throw it in the trunk and scrub away. No one knows what was in there or where the trunk was. If they could talk and tell us, it would be nice. I usually do it outside on a nice airy day, I hose it off and let it dry. Then I finish the outside before I start on the inside. Anyway, I do a cross-stitch like for my dauther's 16th B/D and then one for a wedding, and line the whole trunk with the pre-quilted fabric with the nice upholstery trim, and place the cross-stitch in the lid. I use wallpaper paste and it works good, no marks. My daughter is now 46 and her's looks brand new. I have 9 on my backporch to redo, some are washed ready to finish. I did one for my son's wedding, one for a 25th anniversary. I just love to work with that.
I am in Wilmington, DE and have seen some already refinished and in the antique shoppes, at $495 each and were selling. I would teach it too if I could find the people with the trunks. I hate to give mine up. There is a place in Texas that has the parts if you are missing some.

rosiewell 10-23-2011 12:14 PM

beautiful trunks, I too use a trunk to store some of my UFO's not nearly as beautiful as yours!

anniesews 10-23-2011 12:20 PM

Or old musty smell? I have one camel back and three flat trunks. And many, many old suitcases. They make great end tables stacked up. I haven't restored any of them yet, but would like to. Some of them I can't store anything in because of the smell. Yours looks fantastic. Thank you for sharing.

this dome one. We have 2 other trunks that certainly need
