since ted and i love making old new again -- a passion we both share is restoring old furniture and trunks

i have found these old trunks to be very useful for storing my fabrics and crafting supplies --

many of the trunks are in a foul state to say the very least -- but with a lot of time and love they can become lovely pieces of furniture again for our homes

pics attached is one of my favorite trunks we have restored -- we lovingly call her toadie -- as when we found her she was an antique green color that was popular in the 70s -- toadie has been gutted, resurfaced using a silk screening process on top and she stores all the lovely men's neckties until ready for use

Lacelady 10-22-2011 05:05 AM

Wow, that is what I call making a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

Navy Wife 10-22-2011 05:06 AM

I have toadie's twin, in antique green! I inherited it in the 70's, and redid it myself in the fashion of the day. I wish it looked like yours today!

What a great idea..and beautiful job!!!

QuiltingKrazy 10-22-2011 05:35 AM

Beautiful! I picked up an old one at our goodwill for $15.
It needs repairs but is in overall sturdy condition. Just needs some "love". Right now it sits in my office as is with some fabric and a quilt draped over it. It looks pretty good just sitting there!

deanneellen 10-22-2011 05:37 AM

So beautiful!

lodad 10-22-2011 05:39 AM

Beautiful restoration. My sister has one that has been in our family for over 100 years. It has leather on the sides and a gilded top with brass. It needs some restoration but still looks great.

cheaha39 10-22-2011 05:40 AM

epson233 10-22-2011 06:08 AM

How about coming to Oklahoma? I would like to take your trunk retoration lessons.
I have a trunk that was my mothers and in fact, was once in Longview, Washington about 60 years ago when I was a baby.

BuzzinBumble 10-22-2011 08:22 AM

Love looking at your more detailed pictures of how you and Ted restored Toadie! Clearly you know how to kiss a toad and turn her into a princess!   Stunningly beautiful!

quilter68 10-22-2011 09:05 AM

Love your trunk! Nice work.

Twisted Quilter 10-22-2011 11:03 AM

I love old trunks! We've refinished about 4. The last was a Jenny Lynn which DH claimed. I have a wonderful humpback that I want to refinish for myself. It's been 2 years...maybe I'll get it done before this year is over.

Willa 10-22-2011 02:29 PM

I got my grandpa's camel back trunk. The outside isn't pretty and needs work but the inside is beautiful. It has 3 pictures inside inside the lid and on the tray. I don't know if it's supposed to be the same girl growing up or 3 different girl/women but love it. Haven't seen any other trunks with 3 pictures but am sure they're out there.
