Just rain and fog in Pittsburgh. Nasty night outside.
|
Sitting here in NE Iowa listening to the wind howl and just looked out the window and it's snowing and blowing so hard! So much is already closed for the day tomorrow. We have a quarter mile lane to get to the blacktop. It's going to be shoulder high drifts tomorrow!! Looking forward to being snowed in!

I had moved to Illinois in October of that year....from HAWAII! That was a memorable experience!  |

I dare anyone....just try giving quilters lemons! HA! |
We are really getting blasted here in Revere, Mo. There is a drift on this side of our car about up to my waist. I am 5'2". Some would say that is a small drift but it's big enough for me. There also is a drift on the front deck that about 1/3 of the way up the door. Can't open door. My poor babies. I let them out the back but they don't know what to do out there. I put s bunch of papers down on the floor, that's the way I housebroke them, in hopes that they will use them. I'm already ready for this one to be over.LOL

As mentioned yesterday - in our neck of the woods, just cleaning up after the floods, more floods in Southern Oz and now we are preparing for cyclone category 5. Heaps have evacuated to Brisbane. Don't know which is worse - snow and ice or wind and rain...just hope everyone remains safe.

Think God is trying to tell us something??
|
That is great planning

I'm in Owasso, OK (tulsa area). We got 20" of snow last night and today. Snow drifts are 5-6'. Everything is closed - which is good. Great time to do some quilting. Temp today was 10 with
-8 windchill. I know that's not bad for some of you but for us, it's COLD!!!! this is the record snowfall in the history of Tulsa. |
I think there should be a LOT of quilting going on from the sounds of this thread...nothing else to do..can't even walk to the mail box..
|
I'm from Cinti too!
|
I'm in North Texas, and the weather guys are saying it's been the coldest since at least 1996. We might set records this week.
I just don't remember it EVER being this cold here. (yeah, I'm a cold-weather wuss...) |
turn the gas on the stove & light with a match or lighter
Sorry, now that I've read the rest of the thread I see you didn't need me to chime in w/this |
In Cedar Rapids, Iowa we have had high winds, blowing snow and blizzard conditions. Interstate 80 is really bad, and lot of schools let out at 12:30 today. This blizzard is suppose to continue all night until after noon on Wed. Guess the snow blower will really be getting a work out. Think we are suppose to get 16" of snow before its all over.

Everyone stay safe and stay warm. And maybe do a little quilting.
|
My family is in Ok, and are experiencing blizzard conditions since about 3:00AM. Not supposed to let up for a couple of days. My heart goes out to you all. Hope the power holds up to all the ice
|
I'm in Lowell, MA, and I just saw about 20 trucks come rolling down the street. Appears to all be electrical companies, probably here in case of loss of power. I hope they don't have to sleep in their trucks overnight. Second storm is supposed to start right about now.

Can't do anything about it, so might just as well make the best of it. As long as you are warm, have food and water and your quilting...There will be time enough for everything else when the snow is gone...whenever nature decides enough is enough. |
Well, it is 12:56am EST and I can just hear the sleet starting now. It was bright and sunny most of the day, I kept peeking out the window to catch the snow...nothing all day. At 3pm the schools here cancelled for Wed., so after dinner I headed to the sewing room... hence the lateness of this. I just finished up a 24 x 24 quilt top. I saw an avatar on the board and decided to see if I could figure it out...I did! I like looking at the avatar pics for ideas as much as what is posted.

where in Iowa I am from QC

Hope you are all OK over there- stay safe!

Wednesday morning 7:00. There's a thick layer of ice and now the snow has begun. So far the power has stayed with us but the cable/internet was down for a few hours last night.
So frustrating! Yesterday I finally felt like I was getting back to normal after the pneumonia and I can't go any place. At least I do have plenty of cheese to go with this whine!:) |

It's almost 4 PM EST, and I just came in from shoveling out the car and there was about 18"-20" of snow on my car, from both storms, heavy on top, lighter on the bottom, so not too bad to clean off, but the snow was ridiculous! I'm a bit over 5' and the undisturbed snow on the lawn is at my shoulder, my walkway is a tunnel, sides of car had a bout 4' and the front of the car had a bout 2'! I don't recall in my 57 years, ever seeing so much accumulated snow at one time. Another on the way for Saturday!
There are lots of building collapses in the towns that had the sleeta about 30-40 miles south of me. Pux Phil did NOT see his shadow...early spring on the way! Does this prediction ever work? Got one quilt bound and another top completely done! Love snow days! Diane |

! Diane[/quote] I'd believe poor Pux Phil if he didn't have to be dragged out of his home! I've always thought it wasn't fair. Over here in Portland, OR, our zoo's equivalent apparently didn't see his shadow either, so early spring...as soon as the East Winds quit and the temperature is allowed to climb to the "unseasonably high" levels we've had this year. I just look out the window and go by what I see...and I haven't seen the squirrels lately. The sea gulls have been circling inland, which indicated a somewhat stormy conditions near waterways, but nothing serious. I love nature's animals - they tell us so much, don't they? |
We are frozen in here in central Ohio, but I was planning on going to LQS today, and even they are closed. Now you know it has to be bad if they think quilters won't go out in it!
|
I am in Rockford and I sympathys with you...we got bombed too........we were prepared though......we made it through fine ,now if we can handle the cold. Hang in there. Judy

We have been spared all the deep snow, but thick layer of ice has done it's damage. As of the news last night, there were still about 8000 homes and businesses without power. The temperature keeps dropping so I pray they can fix this quickly. Ice is problematic because the lines can be down at individual homes increasing the number of repairs.
Do I sound like someone familiar with this situation? Anyway, all of our families have been fortunate to be spared this time. We are still waiting to hear how bad things are around our daughter who lives up by South Bend. |
Here in Mich we are in the single digets below zero wind chill. It is too cold to go out so I stay in and sew......
