Yes, most people submit the post first, then re-read it and catch errors. We all do it that way :)

That's why there is a 20-minute time window to allow for edits.
Editing itself is not the problem. I wouldn't mind leaving unlimited edits. It's when people cripple the topics in which others have participated, then I have a problem.

I'm still going through the e-mail I received last night. Here is one e-mail that illustrates what I'm talking about:

I am very frustrated. I tried to read some of the threads, and there is one person that keeps deleting their comments. Then, trying to continue with the thread, after half a dozen folks have commented makes it impossible to even know what is going in.
This is a personal thing, and I am probably not the only one thinking like this. One is reading *by John mostly* and all of a sudden it says 'deleted.' If he doesn't want his stuff read, he shouldn't post.

I bet I am not the only one that thinks this way either...

Admin - I would just like to thank you as with the majority of all members here for your long hours input into ensuring that the site is running smoothly. That goes for Patrice & Shadow also.

This board has been an inspiration for me as a complete novice to the craft of Quilting which I have fallen in love with. I have made some really good friends & hope this will continue to be the case.
Been given advice & praise for my efforts which really does means alot to me.
So we can imagine how important this board is to other members who maybe are at home all day & rely on coming here to meet & chat with their friends. Which without your assistance wouldn't be possible.

Even though you are out of sight Admin, Patrice & Shadow you are not out of mind we all appreciate you here.

Tisha :D

I guess I have been out of the loop for a while now. I didn't realize there was anything out of kilter. This is a great site administrator and you three are doing a wonderful job of keeping order. This site to me was a life saver and I feel safe when I am on this site knowing we have people like the 3 of you watching our backs.

Thanks for your time and attention Admin. Perhaps now we all can get back to the sharing of information, inspiration and plain ole fun that we've all come to enjoy so much. It had been sorely missed for awhile now. I'm so very glad to know things will be going back to the carefree/worry free/non-nit-pic-the-fun-away way of quilting board life again!!
You, Patrice, Shadow and this board ROCK!! Y'all are doing such wonderful jobs and you are ALL greatly appreciated for it!

sharon b 01-20-2009 02:03 PM

I would like to echo Patrice. Your support and kind words mean more to me than words can describe. :)

I also am more than happy to help if anyone needs to edit a post. :)

Elizabeth A. 01-20-2009 02:52 PM

I too appreciate everyone here, Admin, Moderators, and members alike. I have been watching this thread through out the day, worried more than I thought I'd be, hoping against hope, that I'd be able to PM one of our wonderful helper ladies if I needed a post edited. Now that I'm reading now I feel much better, thanks.

ksusan 01-20-2009 03:24 PM

Admin, Patrice and Shadow Dancer---

We truly appreciated the thought and care that you have given to this board and the priviledge of being able to post.

I used the word priviledge because you have made this possible for us to use by your generosity and hard work.

Thank you for your countless efforts to keep everything running smoothly.

We appreciate you and are sorry for the misfortunate circumstances recently encountered. Thank you for the clear explanations.

Sincerely,
Kay Susan Carlson

I spend more time here than I do at the machine but all the people on this board have become like friends to me.
I agree I do the same.
Admin thanks for your time and no good deed is punished.
Patrice and Shadow do a wonderful job.
I am sorry for the ones who left in anger and haste and wish them well.

Thanks for a great message board and the wonderful work you do to keep in going Admin!!! And special thanks to Patrice and Shadow! When I first found this board over 2 yrs ago, Patrice was the first person I met on here and then got me hooked on messanger!!
This board kept me alive last winter when I had a broken back and I couldn't do anything else but lay with my laptop on top of me and read the message board. I thank everyone for that!!

I've got to add my $0.02 worth in.

I have appreciated this Board more than words can say. I have bounced ideas off of other members, asked for advise, strutted my stuff (quilts) with the members, flaunted my "buys" and shared laughs and conversations with these wonderful ladies and gentlemen.

I have recommended this Board to anyone that has ever mentioned the word "quilt" to me. I have never regretted it.

ADMIN, Patrice and Shadow, IMHO, all the work that you do is greatly appreciated and any inconvenience that we may experience, is still worth it so that we continue with this Board.

Hey admin - I have an extra four hours here that you can have! This weekend, turn off all electronic devices (yes, even access to this wonderful board), get in touch with your most significant person and enjoy four whole hours to do what you like. Compliments of appreciative quilters.

I feel lucky to have found this board. The people who take the time to read posts, respond and pass along wonderful information and pictures have become a valuable part of my quilting experience. Thanks to all who watch out for us.

(I'm used to the 20-minute edit rule from a forum I deal with for work, but will try to be better at using that handy-dandy "Preview" button in the future.)

I agree with everything Lee has said (although I don't know whta IMHO means.... ). I don't participate as much as I would like, but I do like to get off the computer to sew a little every now and then  !

I would miss this place if it wasn't around so THANKS to everyone for organizing, "policing", and opening up your quilting worlds to all the rest of us!

littlehud 01-21-2009 07:01 AM

Thanks for the info. It answers a lot of my questions. I found this site soon after I started quilting and it has been a source of inspiration and help. Thanks Administrator, Shadow, and Patrice for keeping this going.

BlueChicken 01-21-2009 11:38 AM

IMHO - In My Humble Opinion

I've only been here for a few days, but I'm totally impressed by what I've seen. This is a great place, and seems to be very well run.

I belong to several other forums, from pets and animals to speedway, and it's interesting to see the same sort of issues coming up in all of them, it's only the subject that changes. What makes the difference is how well Admin deals with it, and the communication.

Keep up the good work, and thank you!

:-)

Just wanted to join the gang in thanking you three for all your hard work. I really have greatly appreciated the discussions and information shared here. Admin, I am sorry you lost those four hours (I am sure you had better things to do), but I really appreciate that you were able to piece the discussions back together. I was kind of lost the other day when I went looking for a link that I had seen and couldn't find it in the discussion. I was starting to doubt my memory, but this explains it. Take Care, Maribeth

at night or something worries me.
Thankyou for all your hard work, keep up the great job :!: :D

You, Patrice, Shadow and this board ROCK!! Y'all are doing such wonderful jobs and you are ALL greatly appreciated for it!

I'm the Amen corner for Lisa's post. I would be so lost if not for the wonderful friends I've made here and I know I'd have had a breakdown last year if not for the love and prayers. Thank you for spending so much time in keeping us on the up and up and keeping the board open to us. You've gone out of your way to make so many great additions and changes...I'm truly sorry that the few caused so much havoc. We've never had such as that and I hope we never do again!

Thank you Thank you Thank you!!! We appreciate all the hard work the three of you do! Truly!!

Cathe 01-22-2009 10:25 AM

I help run a message board (not quilting) for 200 ladies, and I know it's a HUGE amount of work for the admins and moderators... way more than anyone could realize. My board is private - no one can see it or post on it without being approved as a member - a long process involving references and signing standards of conduct - but we still have problems! The Quilting Board is even more work because it's more vulnerable to spamming.

I am very grateful for the opportunity to discuss quiltmaking on a well-administrated board! Thank you.

Elizabeth A. 01-22-2009 01:23 PM

Yes we are a well vaccinated bunch. Except sometimes when we need lined up and called out. ;) Sorry Cathe I couldn't myself over that little bit of humor. Don't take it the wrong way. ;) It's just what popped in my head when you said administered ...

Cathe 01-22-2009 01:52 PM

LOL - I can see that.

It's a good board and the moderators take good care of it, keeping it clean and friendly.

patricej 01-22-2009 02:36 PM

because we wuvs you.

Skeat 01-22-2009 04:34 PM

I applaude the hard work here on this subject! I am one who couldn't figure out the 'what the heck'! (And, thought it was just me)LOL Good job! Skeat
