Recently, there have been complaints about ads at the top of pages, slow downloads, etc., on the message board. These boards are free to us, and don't the ads help keep them that way? I've not experienced any of the myriad of problems being mentioned, so maybe I'm just lucky--but lets try to be more appreciative of a wonderful service we're receiving--for FREE. rusty

Patrice J has stated if folks are having problems to please contact:

I'm sure the admins want the board to run smoothly for it's members...REGARDLESS of if we enjoy it for free or not. Ads make revenue, and the more I visit QB the more likely I'm going to see these ads, the more likely I will CLICK said ads.

I don't mind the ads but Monday I was viewing major home improvement stores for inside window shutters. Guess what ads showed up on my Quilting board viewing within an hour. Of course I was using another , separate page on my browser. How did the Quilting Board know I was looking at shutters?

It is not the Board, but rather Google, who knows where you have been surfing!

frauhahn 04-13-2011 05:42 AM

All of your sentiments echo mine-I'm so greatful to have this free resource, I would have no reason to complain if it is slower than it used to be. You can always do something else while waiting for a post to load! (I check email, or shop online) I want the administrators to know that I'm grateful!

I have noticed that the adds often relate to a word in the post ie: window it will often have an add about window treatments or something like that. I don't think the adds are the same for everyone it depends on what they pick up in your post

okiepastor 04-13-2011 05:48 AM

The problems for me were largely resolved after I cleared the history. though for several days after that I had a problem at 9 am with freezing up that was just a mystery!
all seems OK now and I am grateful for the board!

bluteddi 04-13-2011 06:02 AM

I don't mind the ads so much,,,, except the ads are so huge.I have to scroll over half a pageor more to get to the good reading stuff.....Do the ads need to be so tall (4-8 inches)and narrow??(1 inch" )Things will get worked.... Anything , something new goes into place, there are delays and glitches....I love this board... ads or not.

Amen. I can't think of anywhere on the internet where you can get this high of a quality of service where you aren't forced to watch a 30 second info-mercial with each mouse click. Unless they are going to start charging us all $25.00 per year to subscribe, we all need to count our blessings and complain a little less. :)

Ditto!! Hoping we WON'T have to subscribe at some point.

I also feel it is well worth mentioning where else can you sell anywhere for free with the size of the membership here? Trade, give donations, etc., etc. The vast number of forums created a niche for anyone and everyone.

I for one am very thankful that Admin took an unbelieveable amount of time to create this unprecedented board for quilters. Personally I know of no where else on the internet that provides all this board offers free or even with a fee. The accumulated years of knowledge of the members is extraordinary and their willingness to share and help others is beyond comparison.

We all should be thankful for what this amazing board has given to us in more ways than just our shared love of quilting.

I love Quilting Board!
I love the Board being FREE, because I could not afford to pay! I am thankful for it each and every day.
I do like to know what kind of weird things are happening, so that I know it is not my computer freaking out! I am not complaining about the ads, they are just weird all of a sudden.

Melinda in Tulsa 04-13-2011 09:59 AM

I guess I'm the odd girl out here, LOL! I don't see any ad's. I use Firefox for my browser.

I second this!!!

The only ad I see is fairly unobtrusive just above the reply space. I hadn't noticed them until this discussion. Cool it. If your computer has slowed down maybe it just needs a defrag.

You are on the money here! We are luck to have this board for free!

mynani 04-14-2011 04:28 AM

I must disagree with all of you. I am finding the slowness of this board very frustrating to use. The ads do not bother me as much as the time it takes to download each ad and then each picture.I do so love sitting here each morning with my coffee but seriously doubt if I have the time to wait for all the beautiful pictures of these talented people to download.

supergma 04-14-2011 04:34 AM

I love and appreciate this board. For some reason, the ads have never bothered me. As long as there are no Pop-up ads, I'm o.k.

seamstome 04-14-2011 04:46 AM

The slowness has pretty much gone away and NO I didnt need a defrag. Something happened when they changed over. It should not take 5-8 minutes to load on very high speed cable or DSL.

As far as the ads, I dont mind them as long as they are appropriate. But there are more of them.

nab1213 04-14-2011 04:51 AM

I agree fully. My slow problems also disappeared after I cleared my history--probably hadn't been done "in forever"!

Have you cleared your browser cache or history? If not, that is the problem-----If you have , then send a note to Admin, as they want it to work properly. I had an answer back from them quite promptly.

Oh mo! I am very far away and you people don't know how much this board means to me. Thank you ever so much again.

I agree that this site is free and if there are ads - so be it. Also, I have clicked on some of the ads and found things I needed. I don't see a problem with the ads - until that are big enough that they overpower the content of the board.

cafegold2 04-14-2011 06:02 AM

It's called cookies.

Yooper32 04-14-2011 06:11 AM

Everything has a price. I consider this a small price to pay for the great dividends we get on this board.

quiltaroni 04-14-2011 07:06 AM

The price of everything has gone up lately, fabric, classes, notions etc. etc.etc. but the tips, knowledge help of all kinds, fun and entertainment are still free here .I for one am truly grateful!

klgreene 04-14-2011 07:30 AM

Whenever there is a change over with something, there are always a few glicks. As for adds, that helps pay for what we get free. Like TV used to be. We still get adds on our TV's and have to pay through the nose to watch it. I personally am very greatful this is free, and we get so much from here. And have met wonderful people, who are so helpful. As for slowness, it's usually my provider. So if it's slow. I just go quilt and come back in a little while. Alls well with the world and the board. I give the board a "THUMBS UP!"

quilter1943 04-14-2011 09:19 AM

ABsolutely!! This is the best and it takes a lot of work to keep it up and running. No complaints here.

Quilter2B 04-14-2011 09:49 AM

Funny how this is the first topic I've read about the "ads" that hasn't been locked. I had trouble too with the site being slow and with the elongated ads that filled my screen but I simply scrolled/paged down and went past them. I too am thankful for this "free" space where I can chat with friends, see and learn lots and lots of stuff. Yes ads earn revenue that pays for the web-hosting and we should all agree that we have a choice to click on the links or not. I use web-based email and have the same situation there. Doesn't do much good to complain unless you have a suggestion for a solution. In this instance, eliminating free access might be the only choice. I'd rather have to scroll past the ads (as long as they are not unreasonably long) than have to pay to have access. This site is well organized and very well presented compared to most groups I've been on and I thoroughly enjoy it. I look at the ads like a fly on the screen, annoying at times but easy to look past.

Amend! I just love this board and have learned so much from it.....I feel very fortunate to have found it and am grateful and appreciative to all those who contribute.

Great-great granny 04-14-2011 12:01 PM

I'm happy to see so many on here that enjoy the QB enough to overlook a few things. I personally have not had an issue w/slowness, nor A LOT of ads - none popping up & the only ones I even noticed (not before it was even mentioned on here) is the one at the top of this reply area.

I really hope we don't have so many complain that a "fee" is considered. I am a senior, on a VERY fixed income & this is such a pleasure for me to participate in without being charged.

It seems the world has become so hurried, that unfortunately I think many do not even take the time to actually enjoy the blessings around them every day. It is really sad when so many 'little' things in life cause frustration or 'upset' people.

LIFE IS TOO SHORT not to enjoy & see the good side of every opportunity that comes our way.

SLOW DOWN & SMELL THE ROSES

roseOfsharon 04-14-2011 12:02 PM

No complaints here!

gramquilter2 04-14-2011 03:26 PM

I for one don't even notice the ads, I see what I came to see I guess. Slower, maybe but so am I!

cctx. 04-14-2011 03:37 PM

I never see the ads on here, because I have Ad Filter on my desk top computer.

When I use my daughter's Desk computer at her house, the ads are all over the place making hard to focus on the topics.
Her lap top has the ads too, but she has Mozilla for her desk PC and Windows for the lap top but her Ad Filter is not downloaded.

I use Mozilla/Firefox for (3) years now and never have a problem yet *knock on wood* previously it was with Windows.
