Yikes!

I have cut off my acrylic nails with them before but not my flesh. Hope you get well soon and that the pain isn't too bad.

phatquilts2 02-09-2011 09:20 AM

Oh that is horrible. There was no way to save the tip of your finger? Hoping that you heal swiftly and without any complications.

Up North 02-09-2011 09:20 AM

OH my how painful I hope it heals quickly.

amma 02-09-2011 09:23 AM

(((HUGS))) I hope it heals quickly :D:D:D

Grama Lehr 02-09-2011 09:23 AM

Ouch!! I have really been thinking about getting a "klutz glove" like they show on Fons & Porter.. . . .
I have been watching when I cut, and I get really close to my fingers. . .
I hope that you heal quickly!

quiltsillysandi 02-09-2011 09:24 AM

OHHHH Nooooo.....!!! Hope you heal quickly and get back to sewing.........For me, I am an OCD freak about locking the blade everytime I cut...However, one time I borrowed a cutter when I left mine at home. It was nothing like mine, safety locked the opposite way of what I was used to......OOPS..went to reach for something, hit the blade and sliced my finger open...Lesson learned...I'll buy a new one like mine, before I borrow one again....:)

Ouch!!!! Be careful with those things, they are very sharp!!!

quiltlonger 02-09-2011 09:33 AM

Sit back with a cup of tea and READ the board no (Excess) typing or only couple fingers like me --so slow at this typing thing- and heal quickly:)

oldswimmer 02-09-2011 09:46 AM

Rutthy, so sorry to hear about your accident. That will hurt for a while. My hubby cut the tip of his finger off years ago.
When you get healed up you should get one of those Klutz gloves that Fons and porter sells (like someone mentioned) They will protect your fingers. Let me know if you have trouble finding them and I will help you.
Now go and heal...sending you healing prayers and thoughts!

quiltsRfun 02-09-2011 09:49 AM

Sorry to hear about your accident. Maybe I need to reconsider my opinion of the klutz glove.

musicaljan 02-09-2011 10:07 AM

I did the SAME thing a few years ago. Sorry this happened to you. 8( I was hurrying, trying to get some fabric cut before my kids got up. 8/ I'm now the most careful rotary cutter. (((hugs)))

quiltilicious 02-09-2011 10:08 AM

OMG! My fingers hurt just READING your post!

Get better soon!!!

Midwestmary 02-09-2011 10:08 AM

Hugs to you! Thanks for sharing this will all of us - good reminder - I can get very careless sometimes and am fortunate I haven't done the same thing. Trusting for a complete and rapid healing for you. :)

isnthatodd 02-09-2011 10:11 AM

Thanks for posting. It serves as a reminder to all of us to never let up our vigilance. It is SO easy to slip, and you have helped us all be more careful.

nativetexan 02-09-2011 10:24 AM

yep been there. it was my thumb though. you may have to get one of those metal finger guards to wear over your finger for awhile. if you cut nerves, it takes awhile for them not to be tender. I think we all learn to be more careful the hard way!

NCquilter 02-09-2011 10:54 AM

((hugs)) I hope your finger heals quickly. I've had close calls with cutting my fingers. Those blades are very sharp!

Ditter43 02-09-2011 10:59 AM

I sliced a big piece off the side of my index finger once. When I saw it laying there it took a second to realize what had happened before the bleeding started. Then I was trying to keep from getting it on the fabric!
I am very careful about where I put my fingers now!
I hope you feel better soon!! :D :D

mollymct 02-09-2011 11:13 AM

*shivers* Hope you heal quickly!!

great aunt jacqui 02-09-2011 11:48 AM

OUCH   I feel your pain. been there.

Kas 02-09-2011 01:44 PM

And please wear shoes while cutting. A dropped rotary cutter will not be nice to a bare foot!

chickadeee55 02-09-2011 02:49 PM

Oh, sorry to hear, take care of it. This has just reminded me to respect those cutters, sometimes we forget.

rusty quilter 02-09-2011 03:02 PM

Glad you are doing fine. My first quilt instructor has done this as well so she warned us a LOT about safety. Take care and treat yourself to some pampered time.

Ooowwieee! So sorry-hope it heals fast.

The Creative Seamstress 02-09-2011 04:55 PM

Yeah, I almost had one of those moments today as a matter of fact, except it could have been really bad. I don't know what I was thinking. I was sitting down in my office chair (swirly and on a hardwood floor with nothing for grip so it slides everywhere easliy) at my cutting table and was cutting fabric from the top of it towards me instead of from me and away. Well my chair slipped and my hand kept going and the blade went up against my abdomen. Luckily I haven't changed my blade in awhile so it was far from sharp (but still) - so it didn't cut the clothes I was wearing or me (thankfully). Talk about those moments... seriously - sometimes they just happen. I've spent the rest of the day being uber careful! I hope you heal up soon!!! :)

Explosive blessings, abundance and inspiration to you all!

craftybear 02-09-2011 05:42 PM

ouch, take care of yourself

Hugs Hugs :) :)

lovingmama 02-09-2011 06:12 PM

I am using the Klutz Glove. It's not a cut proof glove, but better than nothing.

I also recommend the O-Lipfa Safety Guard. It's a "lip" that will be attached to your Ruler. Keeps your fingers away from the edge.

p38flygirl 02-09-2011 06:23 PM

Hope you get well soon..About 20 years ago my husband was cutting a straight edge on a piece of leather..He was using a steel ruler and a very sharp knife...He has a perfectly straight edge on his index finger...This was before rotary cutters...It did take a while to heal..Get a finger cot to cover it so it will stay dry while working around the house...

roseOfsharon 02-09-2011 06:25 PM

OMGoodness! I am sorry to hear this. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
