I woke to some fog this morning. Looked out at the hammock and saw THIS! That long ropy thing is a spiderweb!!! I do NOT want to see that spider!!! BTW - it goes from the hammock CLEAR up in the tree. I couldn't get a picture that far up because of the sun...but I CAN say, this is only about 1/3 of the web!!!

Candace 09-02-2010 09:25 AM

I would have been screeching my head off.

amma 09-02-2010 09:25 AM

Are you sure they aren't filming a horror film in your back yard?

adyldrop 09-02-2010 09:28 AM

one word.....EXTERMINATOR!!!! Speed dial them, woman!!! I'd run and hide in the tub!!!

cjomomma 09-02-2010 09:34 AM

Ewwwwwwe! I don't like spiders but I would want to see the size of that sucker. Had one make a web half that size and the spider was atleast an inch and a half wide if not bigger. The web went from the tree to the ground just like in the pic.

sahm4605 09-02-2010 09:36 AM

what is it trying to trap a small animal?

franie 09-02-2010 09:37 AM

I saw webs like this in the orange groves in FL. Creepy!

lauriejo 09-02-2010 09:44 AM

OMG!!!!! Are you sure you don't live in the Amazon jungle. Spiders totally creep me out. That is definitely B movie material.

bearisgray 09-02-2010 09:48 AM

cool! awesome engineering on the part of the spider!

Ms Grace 09-02-2010 09:56 AM

That's must belong to one HUGE spider!!

Grama Lehr 09-02-2010 10:13 AM

Tarzan

Mimito2 09-02-2010 10:17 AM

I want to see a picture of the spider.

craftybear 09-02-2010 10:17 AM

oh my, did you leave it so you can see the spider, it will come back after dark, I had a spider web in the bathroom window one year and at night I will stand and watch it, was fun

also one at the kitchen window. it was fascinating to watch them, the spider would take down the spider web and rebuild it daily,

Craftybear

redkimba 09-02-2010 10:17 AM

That is so cool!

I had one of these orb spiders visit me last year. Every night she would rebuild her web. I enjoyed watching! She didn't want me--just my bugs! Hope you can see the creature that built your web!! That's impressive!

Quilter7x 09-02-2010 10:57 AM

OK, I've got the heebie jeebies now!

amandasgramma 09-02-2010 11:03 AM

Impressive???? Well, I have a phrase for that....LOL I HATE spiders!!! Granddaughter and I went out and looked and it's not there....ODD!!! Maybe the dampness caused it to collapse! And NO I am NOT going out after dark to see if it's there!!!! GET REAL!!!!!!  I don't go out after dark.....there have been reports of BIG FOOT in this area!!!! oh yeah, and BEARS! There's a mother bear and her cub roaming our neighborhood last week!!!!

Kas 09-02-2010 11:41 AM

Probably a European cross spider. We have them here in WA as well. They eat mosquitos so I love them! The web probably just looked bigger because of the dew stuck to it. All the babies are getting mature now, so expect to see more.

GrammaNan 09-02-2010 11:46 AM

I would have had an accident in my pants. That would be a nightmare for me. I would have had my DH grab the pressure washer and spray everything down for 1/2 mile! The web may be gone the spider isn't!!!

earlylace 09-02-2010 12:27 PM

yikes, thats a big un!

Maride 09-02-2010 12:29 PM

MOVE!!

Chasing Hawk 09-02-2010 01:45 PM

Thanks Dee !!!

Now I will be looking at the trees for huge spiderwebs instead of helping set the roof beams on the greenhouse.....haha

debbieumphress 09-02-2010 01:54 PM

OK Now I will have nightmares of that web attachment. OMG this has to be in africa on some great mountain in the movies on sci-fi. Yuck. I hate spiders. I don't want to see the one that belongs to that web. Run for the hills and call the exterminator. Shivvers......

ForestHobbit 09-02-2010 02:16 PM

What state do you live in? Want to be sure I have spider spray, a huge can, if I ever am in your neighborhood. Have you seen the spider yet?

daniellern76 09-02-2010 02:20 PM

YIKES! I would have left town!

lauriejo 09-02-2010 02:27 PM

Oh geez the web is gone, but where is the spider???????

Well, if you ever can get a picture of it---it would be interesting to see.

mom-6 09-02-2010 03:33 PM

I have a couple of really cool spiders that create webs at my land in SE Texas. One of them my daughter said was called a zipper spider because the web looks like a long narrow zipper and if a bug gets caught in it, then the bug looks like a zipper pull! And yes, it is a pretty big spider...maybe I can get a picture this weekend.

MaryStoaks 09-02-2010 03:45 PM

I'd be calling the externinator too!

MadQuilter 09-02-2010 03:48 PM

Dee, I'll take BigFoot and the Bear over the spider, thank you very much.

My MIL has tons of garden spiders and the woman is only 4' 10" so she can scurry underneath all the webs. I will not go into her garden, nor will I follow behind her on the property. Pat usually takes a stick with him and waves it wildly.

oksewglad 09-02-2010 04:09 PM

Oh folks they (spiders) are so helpful and rarely harmful! (I know, I know, my youngest big strapping 28 year old son is deathly scared of spiders!) My byline at the bottom says it all!

Well, one of those darlings almost put DH in the hospital, so he got to experience the widow's bite (sneaky little beotch). I KNOW they are helpful - but why do they have to be so creepy? (and I didn't mean that second sentence in relation to the first sentence at all. lol)

pab58 09-02-2010 05:40 PM

Ewwwwwww!!!!  I know that spiders are useful creatures, BUT I just don't like them!!! :?

theoldgraymare 09-02-2010 05:47 PM

So long as the spider is OUTSIDE the house, it's cool.

krabadan 09-02-2010 06:02 PM

I wouldn't want to see that spider either.

Quiltforme 09-02-2010 06:33 PM

We just had a huge pictoral article in the paper about the male spiders coming into season and well run run as fast as you can!!! not my favorite insect!

wvdek 09-02-2010 06:36 PM

Wow, that is so cool. I would love to see the spider too. I love spider webs. They tell such a story and each web is distint to the spider. I love the Garden Spider webs with
the "Z" in the middle and she is such a pretty black and yellow. However, they crawl on me or are in the house, they meet their maker.

amandasgramma 09-02-2010 06:55 PM

Well -- now....Yeah, I'm scared of spiders! I've been bitten twice here. Never knew what bit me. Both times was when I was out IN those trees looking for a cat after dark (because of coyotes, we don't let them stay out at night). BOTH times the bites have swollen up REALLY big (one was about size of a small saucer) and both times I got staph!!! I decided after the 2nd time, that the cats are on their own after dark...I'm NOT going out. Now I wonder if THAT spider is the culprit! OH...BTW - we have only had little teeny tiny spiders in our house..I'd say maybe 10 over the last 5 yrs!! Because of our extreme heat/extreme cold we just don't have many spiders.

Chasing Hawk --- I've been sending out vibes all day -- telling him to go to the LaPine state park!!!! chuckle chuckle chuckle
