Mean - you definately need to destress!!! I know hiding in my sewing room always destresses me. Hope you got some sewing in tonight!!!! I'm up in the AM to head to PA. Taking my machine to have it serviced while I hit up a couple quilt shops with a friend. Should be a great day!!!!

quilthappygail 09-05-2012 11:33 PM

I missed the sign up deadline for his month so I will just follow along this month. I will be here to cheer you all on.
Maybe next month I won't let the days slip away and get signed up on time. Now to go back and read all your postings.
Gail

lauriejo 09-06-2012 03:46 AM

Good morning all! I keep losing this thread and finding it too late to sign up, grrrr. I really have got to get back on track. I was at the doctor's on Friday and boy was that an ugly number on the scale. Time for me to get off this ole lard butt and lose it!

irishrose 09-06-2012 01:28 PM

Gail and lauriejo, I'm sure Cindy will give a you by and let you sign up last. We value our 'elder' members - as in length of membership, not chronological age. Post here and I will add your names to the list.

"Time to get off this ole lard butt and lose it!" That's telling it like it is. My latest weight seem to be more in the front - or maybe that's just what I can see, but I'm with you, Laurie.

lauriejo 09-06-2012 03:02 PM

That's me, lol, the elder lard butt! Seriously though my weight has been creeping up for months. The longer I was off work, the less moving I did and the more snacking I did. Started a new job last month so now it's time to lose enough weight that I can fit back into my work clothes!

sewNso 09-06-2012 03:11 PM

hello ladies. just re-read from start to finish this month. FQ mailing has changed, i see. we send them to the 'hostess' then she mails them on. i guess that is good, because in the past, some didn't actually send their FQ, i had been told, and i think sending was even optional for just a short time.
glad i caught 'to the hostess'. read how everyone was eating. we all have our own preferences, don't we? i'm 65, and i have found that meat, fish and veg work for me. i have to limit my fruit, and stick to just a couple grains/carbs a day. i guess the old WW from years ago is what i prefer. but i do treat myself to something every couple weeks, like sugary jelly, or a pt of ice cream. i've been trying to lose for about 3 weeks now, and have lost ll lbs so far.
hang in there ladies.
DO WE SEND THE FQ NOW??? AS THE 10TH OF SEPT.?
has anyone else had this problem--i get the notifications of 'watched thread', but when i hit the link for it, it takes me to the quilting board, but will not load anything but the VERY top headings of the page.

irishrose 09-06-2012 03:29 PM

Yes, sewNso, send it to Cindy by the 10th of September. Fall it is. I thnk I have some isolated in a box and I THINK I know where it is. It sounds like you are on the right track and have found what works for you.

Laurie, are you joining the FQ challenge? I hope so. I enjoy your posts.

I was up early and had a long day. I'd better get the dogs out before I talk myself out of it, then I can rest or press HSTs. I'm still dragging my feet on the FMQ. I don't know how I became my ex-husband's caretaker, but it makes for a long day.

Have y'all put your goal for the month on the calendar? Might want to write down somewhere what your weight was on the first if your memory is anything like mine. Not on the public calendar for me, thank you, anyway.

Yes Gail.........send in your FQ.....we need you. You have been missed

createfourpaws 09-06-2012 05:15 PM

I just loved reading 50 shades of Grey........got the other 2 today and will start them later. I have to keep going on the tshirt quilt I am working on.

Remember to take time for yourself even if only about 5 mins a day to unwind. We are our worst enemines, just need to remember to take care of ourselves when we take care of others around us.

Welcome back LaurieJo and Gail....you have been missed.

Heading over to the sewing machine to work on the t-shirt quilt, still putting the framing on it. have about 8 more to frame then i get to start playing with the layout and see where things may need to bee added to a row. Still have some of the small patches from the shirts she wants to be added that I can use. This has been a fun project. I will post pictures as i am making progress.

cdmmiracles 09-06-2012 05:44 PM

Congrats coutryhousequilter, awesome job, keep up the losing.
Cindy a month with something for turquoise would be awesome and also make me work harder, lol.
Welcome to all the newcomers and good luck.......I've fallen off the work out wagon this week.....gotta drag myself back on. Made a busy little apron for a friend's grand daughter this week. Lone star is in the holding pattern, while I decide what else to add because it's not as big as I want yet........sigh.......thought I was done until I measured it.

sewNso 09-06-2012 06:07 PM

thx, irish, yes, i must have read the thread, quickly, just skimming over it. ex-hubby's caretaker? bless your heart. did you all have children together? if, so , i can understand. you must be a saint anyway for undertaking that. god bless you. gotta cut the fat quarters to get mailed tomorrow. looks like we are running short of time to get that done.
i'm working on a twin quilt for the little grandson who just graduated to a big boy bed. making a twin out of primary colors with 1/2 sq tri's. and using up quickie paper. forget the name. too late at nite for me. going to be stars, and a few other configurations. going slow on a 2nd DJ quilt. yes, irish. ole WW usually works for me, if i can just leave the crap alone. i usually fall off the wagon after about 20 lbs. but my daughters wouldn't shut up, about me losing wt.,,, so here goes....

quilthappygail 09-07-2012 06:47 AM

I am in for the long haul and will send my FQ in the next day or so. Thanks for louriejo and myself . Irishrose put me on that list and thanks.
I will be leaving out most carbs in my eating plan as that seem to be my downfall. love bread. need to go on walk with DH and Jasper, will check in later

CountryHouseQuilter 09-07-2012 07:39 AM

Yesterday was exhausting, but fun. A friend and I headed into PA. Dropped my machine off for servicing while we hit a couple shops having sales. Of course I bought fabric :-) Got fabric to finish off what I need to do a quilt I want to make so I'm excited about that. When we went back to pick up my machine the owner gave me a demo on the Bernina 830LE....I'm in love. He offered me a great deal on trading in my Bernina and 48 months of payments with no interest. I so want to get it, but had to talk it over with DH first. Right now, not in my plans :(. Oh well, eventually. Till then I'll keep trudging along on my 630 anniversary edition. It's a good machine, just love the bells and whistles on the newer one.

Weather should be changing here this weekend. Can't wait to open the curtains and throw open the windows!!!! LET THE FALL BEGIN!!!!!

quilthappygail 09-07-2012 08:26 AM

Thanks for the welcome aboard Cindy
I will send my FQ in the next day or two.
Just finished my walk with DH and Jasper, 2.5 miles. One scrambled egg with Oj and half a banana. Now out to clean up the yard.
stay focused and check in often.
Gail

lauriejo 09-07-2012 08:29 AM

I'm in for the fq challenge, thanks Cindy. I will get that fq in the mail tomorrow.

quiltingcrazy 09-07-2012 09:14 AM

I looked at the post and again, I am too late for September. I will watch better this month so that I can sign-up for October. I think this is such a great idea and I want to try very hard to be a "winner", any weight I lose will make me an instant winner, right? Good luck all, may the best loser be a "big winner!". (a smaller but big winner)

irishrose 09-07-2012 07:20 PM

SewNso, children? Five live births, two stillbirths and 6 miscarriages. Then there are many grandchildren and great grand children so the answer to your question is yes, we had children together. 42 years, 4 months and 4 days of marriage to the same person. At first I balked at becoming his driver to out of town Dr app'ts and surgeries, but Sh!!, I take in stray dogs and he's still a human being in need. The trouble is he wants more than I willing to give. If you want more info, PM me. Everyone doesn't want to be bored with a long story.

Lily, Moira and I went walking the rain. The worst that happened is my hair became curly, but I'm not going anywhere, so it's no big deal. Two days ago it was very hot, yesterday it was hot, but breezy and this evening I needed a jacket. Life in N Michigan.

So far so good on the food today, though I did have carbs after 1:00 pm. Basmati rice is so good. But I controlled myself and saved some for tomorrow.

I bought a pretty batik today. I want to make an uneven Log Cabin wall hanging for my living room. I just realized I still have a stained glass Southwest mirror hanging in there and I don't use SW in the LR any more. Do I want three different quilts going at once? - though the baby quilt could be done if I'd glue my butt to the chair. I really don't like having to follow a line.

Off to clean house a bit. I unhooked my cable today and haven't figured how to switch the TV back to no cable, so I've got nothing. What did the installer change? It's a good thing I'm not much on TV. Charter just keeps going up and I have no control, but I can cancel it.

Have a good evening, y'all. I am losing weight and getting healthier.
Judy

quilthappygail 09-08-2012 06:32 AM

Good morning all, Had a pretty good eating day yesterday. DH took me for fish and chips , I was craving it as he can't take the smell of fish cooking in the house. It was so good but not the best calorie wise. I did leave all but a very few of the fries.
Today we are taking Jasper to a doggie day in the park. They will have all sorts of actives for our four legged friends. Jasper loves to be with other dogs.
Must stay on track with eating and drinking water today. I'm making a flank steak in the crockpot so dinner is ready when we get back from the park.
Have a good weekend. Be good to yourself and if tempted ask if it's really good for you and do you really need it or just think you just have to have it. Wait 5 min and see if you still want it. Works for me most of the time
hugs to all
Gail

lauriejo 09-08-2012 03:08 PM

Well I was good today, kinda, sorta lol. I didn't do too bad on the eating, but haven't really done any walking and as usual didn't drink enough water. Well the water I can fix, but no walking tonight. I've reached my physical limit for the day. I will try again tomorrow. I was, however, a very good girl in the fabric store. I went to a lovely LQS today to pick up some fabric for my secret swap partner and managed to leave without purchasing anything for myself!

sewNso 09-08-2012 07:51 PM

boy, this is a nice friendly place. and soooooo upbeat. I like that. went to a backyard BBQ today, and had my plate Full and then realized, "Crap some of this stuff is not diet friendly'. But,,,,, i ate it anyway.
Irish..you live in michigan also. remember you from the wt loss group a yr or so ago. nice to see you here.
started trying to just move more, and walking around the yard some. sent the grandson off to pre school and day care, so will be able to sew , etc a little more. life is good.

think i will look up '50 shades of gray' at the library. instead of just getting on the internet and buying it. want to start limiting my impulse buys.

irishrose 09-08-2012 08:36 PM

[QUOTE=lauriejo;5500428]Well I was good today, kinda, sorta lol.

Had to smile at this. That's the story of my life. I was good for most of today, but I am a night time snacker. Tonight nothing tastes just right so I keep trying something else.

I know what a lot of my problem is, but not how to fix. Due to some new health issues, I have been able to do very little housework, nor have I wanted to. The clutter is getting out of hand. It's such a overwhelming task to do, I don't even start on the days I could. That is such a downer mentally. You feel bad because of the mess, then feel worse when you don't do anything about it. I've thought about getting a housekeeper for a while, but a) it's not in the budget and b) she couldn't do any decluttering - only I can. I guess I need to just start rehoming things. Not thinking "I might need it someday." Pitch the old magazines without going through them - that's a toughy - I love to read almost anything. Rehome most apparel fabrics. I have more clothes than I'll ever wear and now I prefer quilting. I did give away most of my 'school' clothes. And then there's the coats - How many coats does one person need? Anyone want to volunteer to be my 'mother' - though none of you are old enough? I think I'm the senior here. My two oldest daughters would love to take care of my problem, but I do want to keep a few things so that won't work, besides neither one has time. Okay, enough of that.

Congratulations, Laurie, on leaving the LQS without purchasing anything. I'm doing much better. I have walked out several times or bought just what I went for. I don't need anything for 'someday'. Someday is now! I did pick up a packaged batt at JoAnn's Thursday when I took my ex to Traverse City so now I have enough for a while. It's hard to not use the 40% off coupon when it's a 100 mile RT to go there. Trouble is, I'll be going back in a few weeks when I see the surgeon about my back. That is so scary and what does it mean for Lily and Moira? I can't board them for a few months at $24 to $30 a day and I doubt that I will be able to care for them. I won't be able to rehome 7 and 5 year strays. I need a temporary foster home if there is such a thing around here. When I know what's going on I'll call the no kill rescue in the next county and see if all their fosters are full.

My dinner was very good. Rice and black beans with some low sodium taco seasoning. A little cheese and light sour cream and it was very good. Oh, and the never ending tomatoes from the garden. Actually it's in the 40s again tonight so who knows how long I'll have tomatoes.

Gail, I wish we had a dog park. If I state or city has a leashed dog law, then they should provide somewhere well behaved dogs can run free. I saw a nice one, though small, in Manistee this summer. 100 mile RT to visit a dog park? Hmmm. What kind of dog is Jasper?

No FMQ today, but it's crunch time now. The shower is next Sunday and I have somewhere I need to be almost every day this week , plus I need to cook on Saturday, so I'd better get busy outlining those circles. My youngest daughter called today - wanted to know when I wanted her chicken salad. "UH, Laura, the shower is next Sunday, not the day after tomorrow." Her boys will be eating chicken salad this week and she can start over. Yes, she's blonde, but don't tell her I said that. She hates blonde jokes with a passion.

Time to tell y'all good night. Thank you for listening. Our lives do impact our weight so feel free to share any thoughts you wish.

I AM losing weight and getting healthier.

quilthappygail 09-08-2012 10:55 PM

HI all. Never got to the dog gathering today. DH had a sinus headache so we stayed home. It turned out to be a good thing because the sky opened up this afternoon with a cloud burst that lasted 20 min and dumped more than an inch of rain. The most we've seen here in a very long time. We don't have a dog park here this is a once a year thing for us dog lovers.
Everything else has been good. Dinner was good and I stayed away from most carbs and sweets.
Irish, Jasper is a Sheltie who is a little big for one. But a real lover. Loves food, loves people, loves walks, loves to bark at most anything , loves other dogs and loves to chase cats only because they run.
I think we would have a run for which one of us is the senior here. Our daughter turned 50 today and I was 19 when she came along.
I wish I lived close to you I would love to come walk your babies and spoil them. But the high desert of so. cal. is just a mite bit too far to travel each day. I do hope that the doc has an alternate plan for your back problem. The idea of surgery is something that could be in my future if I don't behave.
It's late so I'm off to bed. I'll try to stop by tomorrow.
Gail

Good Morning Ladies.......or afternoon or evening..........whatever time you may be reading. LOL

I haven't gotten on the computer in 2 days, and that is very rare for me. The 50 Shades series has been very interesting erotic reading. I have had a hard time putting the books down. I have finished the first 2 books and started the 3rd one at 1 am, right after I finished the second one. WOW they are written very well and tastefully.

I really need to get my head out of the books and work on the T-shirt quilts since I am being paid to do them. I have the first one in progress and it is coming along. The others I haven't even started on the prep work on them.

Remember to send your FQ's in, so far I have received one package from Vanogay (sorry if I spelled wrong).

Eat wisely, drink your water and remember you are in control of what you put in your mouth and why.

Have a blessed day.

CountryHouseQuilter 09-09-2012 08:09 AM

Hello Ladies!!!! It's cool here today!!!!! I'm at work and spent the morning sweeping and scrubbing the floors, washing and decorating our service windows for Fall, and generally cleaning up after the slobs that walk in and out our doors every day. Soooo wishing I was outside in the beautiful weather!!

Cindy, I'll be sending my FQs (again) on Monday - I'm not sure what's up with the post office lately. I sent them once, they came back. I ordered something to be sent to my house, and the same to my mothers. Mom got hers 4 days ago, but when I checked tracking, mine had returned to MO where it was shipped from, only to be sent out again. And, to top it off, my GF who lives down the road from us delivered my mail to me the other day. She got mine, but doesn't know where hers is. Anyone else having mail problems? Might have to go pay a visit to the post office (which I hate doing). So, I'll be sending mine off tomorrow (again). Hope they make the full trip this time.

Off tomorrow and Tuesday (I work shifts). Hoping to get my new leader system inplace on my LA and start working on my Geese in the Fields quilt. Need to get it finished to take to retreat in Oct. The lady who taught that class last year at MAQ is hosting this retreat and I'd like to show it to her. I think I've finally figured out exactly how I'm going to quilt it - that's always the hardest part for me, a quilt really has to "speak" to me before I figure out how to quilt it. This ones been talking and changing its mind for a couple months now...LOL.

Well, back to work <sigh> Would rather be outside, or quilting. Have an AWESOME day ladies!!!!

Everose - reading and posting (you change your mind if you want)

This can be revised if I made any mistakes. At any rate, there are about 4 yards of fabric for the winner. Cindy, my Sept and Oct, plus a dollar to help with the next postage are on the front seat of my car. They will go out tomorrow or Tuesday morning.

Gail, add a couple.

I am major depressed. I finally remembered to weigh myself this morning and my weight has jumped way up. Is that a side effect of of antibiotics? I wouldn't think so. I haven't weighed this much in two years. Oh, well, there's nowhere to go but down. I guess it's back to myfitnesspal.com so I can track what I'm eating easily.

CountryHQ, what if the quilt says doesn't agree with you. My baby quilt said circles with lots of open space so the poly batting can look puffy. It's turned out to be not my idea of fun, but that's where I'm headed right now. I'll check in later.

Eat clean, drink your water and move your body. Anyone who can't go out walking, check your PBS for "Sit and Be Fit'. Nice program. I'm checking out Curves tomorrow - it's free this month. I may not be able to do enough to make it worth my while to go, but there's only one way to find out. The senior center has exercises I haven't tried, too. I think the Y is free or low cost with a doctor's order. I need to find something.

I wish you all a stress free day. :)

quilthappygail 09-09-2012 01:48 PM

Ok Irish, you got me. The stress your under is most likely the reason for any gain, myfitnesspal is a great site.
just read in the Sunday paper that our town down the road (6-7mi) now has a dog park with two areas for the dogs. one for the large fellas and one for the smaller guys. I'll have to check it out.
Did my walk this morning only 1.5mi because of the heat (we got a late start) .
Going to do a little quilting until time to start dinner.
Gail

meanmom 09-09-2012 02:56 PM

Cindy, I found my FQ from last month upstairs this morning. I apparently forgot to send it out. I will send it to the winner. I will be sending my FQ for the next few months in a couple of days. Eating has been OK not too good or bad. I should be maintaining. I didn't get to the gym too much this week as I got another Uflexa shot in my knee.I needed to ice it Thursday and Friday. My gym bag is already in the car for tomorrow. I am hoping to avoid a knee replacement. I need to lose weight. The shots do work well so far. This is my second round of shots. My knee feels better when I hit the gym.
I have banished myself from all LQS for a while. I haven't been in one all summer except to teach a couple of classes. No fabric for me. There is way way too much in my stash. There is a quilt show at the end of the month I am going to with my sisters. I am leaving my credit cards at home and only taking a little cash. I want to make a lunch box for myself. I think I am going to use the Bow Tucks pattern and add insulation and a zipper. I have made 4 quilts totally from my stash. I have a baby quilt to finish. It is called Hooterville (owls). I modified the owls to make them all different. It just needs to be layered and quilted. I can never decide on a quilting design.
Healthy eating to all.
Pat

lauriejo 09-09-2012 07:15 PM

Well I did get some walking done today, but I am still not drinking water like I should. Why is that so difficult for me??? It really shouldn't be. I forgot to weigh in this morning, oh well tomorrow is another day. :p

CountryHouseQuilter 09-10-2012 06:40 AM

Just jumping on real quick. Already cleaned the master bath (ick), load of laundry done and on the line, kitchen cleaned, Fantasy Football stuff done (yes, I'm a football nut), dishes soaking. Going to mom & dad's tonight for crabs. Trying to limit my food intake today so I can chow on some great MD steamed crabs and then it's FOOTBALL. Going to work on my hand sewing hexi's while watching football. But this afternoon I'm heading to the basement to do a little quilting.

I'm gone ladies, catch up with you tomorrow. Going to take a long walk out to the mailbox to mail my 1/4's off. I'll through a couple bucks in to help with postage as well. Take care all, drink lots of water!!!! And get moving....

irishrose 09-10-2012 08:18 AM

CHQ, you make me tired just reading all that. I have a flower to plant, a quilt to FMQ (I tried yesterday and it didn't go well. I've never ripped out FMQ before), cookies and fudge to make to send to my college GD, a chair to shampoo and a house to straighten, so I won't be here long, though I'll be back when I need a rest.

I will send cookies to my freshman GGS. A batch will make too many to mail to Miss M - young Mr T likes cc cookies, too. Luckily, I can't have any of the cookies, but I'll have to wrap the fudge as soon as it's set and pour dish detergent in the pan so I don't lick it. It would be cheaper to send them cash to buy some treats, but that's not homemade from grandma. Intelligent, clean living children/young adults need hugs from GM. No, they aren't being rewarded for their intelligence - that's hereditary, but for using it wisely. I'll take a few cookies and some fudge to an adopted GD, too. A young friend has a horrible home situation - additive parents and all that goes with it - and asked to be removed from the house when she was 13. She's beautiful, bright, athletic, etc. I try to keep it in her mind someone loves her and she needs to use her gifts wisely. This sophomore year in HS will be a big one in her life as far as deciding the direction she is taking.

I did some checking yesterday and weight gain in the waist and legs is a side effect of Keflex. Da--, I avoid steroids for that reason. At this rate, I'll gain 35 pounds by the end of 14 days. NOT!

It's a lovely day - not too warm for once. The dogs and I are going to lake before I do too much. I love the sparkle of the sun on the water, though I'm not a water baby. I rather be near it or on it rather than in it except for my lovely warm bath.

CHQ, what are doing with your hexies? I have some I've done while at Dr appt's. I have a table runner in mind - I'd never do enough for a quilt. They are so cute and I feel a connection to my GM. I have a GFG quilt she made totally by hand for me in my LR. I see so many of my little girl dresses when I look at it.

Gail, I have trouble drinking enough water, too. I do count tea as liquid. You can find support for that both ways and I prefer the latest that it does count - not enough of a diuretic to make a difference. I also like lemon water. Drinking it without sugar is a learned behavior, but I find it refreshing.

Have a good day, all. Eat clean, drink water and move your body.

Jim's Gem 09-10-2012 10:37 AM

Ok, I need to get my FQ out in the mail. Last time I sent to cover 4 months. Do I need to send in for September? I'm not sure. Anyway, I will try to get the next 4 months selected and out in the next couple of days.
Tomorrow I have my guild meeting. Have not been since June and am looking forward to it.
In the afternoon I have a biopsy I need to have done. Praying it's nothing or if it is that we caught it early. It has been weighing on my mind a couple of weeks since they told me I need to have this done. My mother has had several different types of cancer. I hope I am not following in her footsteps!!!
Therapy has been going well. I have been able to walk without my cane for the middle of the night restroom trips. I still limp really bad at that time but walk somewhat "normal" with only a slight limp during the day. I want to be able to go for a walk. I see my Dr again on Thursday.
I have trying to be good, and have mostly been succeeding but the scale is not showing it!!!!

Home from my trip to Atlanta. Tried to be good while i was there, but with so much food at gatherings before the funeral and after, it was hard. I did try to have fruit instead of dessert most meals, so that helped somewhat - no second helpings at all and tried never to overload the plate. Probably the worst time was when they ordered in Chinese. I had sweet and sour chicken and chicken on a stick plus some white rice and one egg roll. Didn't weigh this morning, will do that tomorrow and see what damages I need to undo before the month's end. Really putting the skids on overeating now. Lots of water already today and a short walk up and down the street with a friend.

I am making some progress on the t-shirt quilt. Finally have all shirts framed, I framed them all with the same size frame and will cut them down as I need to. Now I am ironing the frames around them and will start on how i am going to lay them out. This is my first t-shirt quilt. I did take a class and it was fun. Oh wait i guess this is the second one since I have the practice one.

Eating has been a challenge for me.......when I am depressed I don't want to eat and if i do it is all carbs. UGH I need to break that one.

I am however drinking plenty of water/tea. So that is a good thing. I just need to stop buying all the carb stuff, since i have no one else to cook or buy for. SO i guess i am my worse enemy right now.

Tomorrow is my birthday. We bring our own treats to work. I made salted caramel chocolate shortbread bars. OMG THEY ARE SO GOOD! I need them out of my house before I eat them all. I have been behaving pretty well so far. I just hope there are some left in the morning. I have been trying to cut out sweets and chocolate. They are killing me. I have only eaten one so far while I cut them. Probably about a million calories in one. I duck taped the container shut to try to keep myself out.

I am so excited, I finally weighed myself, and I have lost 3 pounds this month! It's barely a drop in the bucket, but the numbers are finally going down instead of up.
