I always check the radar - sometimes the storm is only in the far corner of the county, but the whole county falls under the warning. And if it is a good storm, I want to see what it looks like!

First thing to do during tornado season is set up your hidey hole.
get a generator put a sewing machine down in the basement. hook up your machine to the generator. most important...have some sort of exhaust pipe on the generator leading to the outside. (you don't need to be inhaling carbon monoxide fumes while you sew.) When you see cows flying outside your windows and when you hear freight trains when you live miles from any railroad tracks head for the basement with your project........oh and remember to usher the family down there too..:P |
Remember the Wizard of Oz when the old lady is riding her bicycle thru the tornado? I can just see us sewing like crazy at out machine as we twirl in the eye of the tornado. Such devoted quilters. LOL.

I live in St Robert, MO and had quite a storm Sunday afternoon. I heard there was a tornado touched down closer to Camdenton, MO. Also, heard of some "shelf clouds" in the area.
|
I live S. of KC and there was a tornado sighted about 2 miles from my house! It never touched down thank god, but it was a scary few moments there. You gotta love the weather in Missouri.
|
I always unplug all my machines and surge supressors and turn the AC off.
|
Apparently there are more storms coming in tonight  Last night the grandkids sat straight up in bed, eyes big as saucers, scared to death. Closed blinds and they slept like babies. Had almost 4 1/2 inches of rain Sun. Heard that Seymour had about 6 inches the other day. We sure need it, just not all at once :D

Get a weather radio. They are cheap and do keep you informed about conditions outside. I have one and have even been awakened at night of severe weather. We have a thunderstorm coming right now. Will unplug my laptop and run on batteries.
|
We are under a tornado watch at the moment. Have not had any rain since May when Nashville flooded. The satellite goes out we have no warning signals either just eye to the sky.

Next time there's a warning, pleade do what you have to do to protect yourself. This was last month, about 5 miles from here, only 45 min after we drove by the high school.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/37534235/ns/weather/ It's kind of sad, federal help was denied, part of the reason stated was because we have so many good volunteers in the area. I guess they were too good at cleaning up so quickly. I promise, if you have to leave your sewing and it blows this way, I'll try and catch it for you |
