I've been watching this site for several months now and I've learned alot from you folks...well I have a question that I hope someone can help me with and I can learn some more tricks. We have a build up of soap scum on our guest bathroom that I just discovered today...(my neice lives with us and uses that bathroom) how in the world do I remove it? Does anyone have any sure fire ways that really work to remove that stuff? All info is greatly appreciated.

OMgosh. I have found out by using the Scrubble Bubbles shower spray that it comes right out. You spray it on and let it sit about 5 minutes and then rinse. It even takes off the water residue from the shower doors, etc. It's worth the cost too. You can buy one that goes around by itself but I use the one to use when you get out once a week. I am so happy. Even shines up the faucets. Hope this works for you.♥♥

I use an SOS pad, rinse, dry and give a rub down with car wax and buff. Keeps it from building back and cleans easier next time.

I have used CLR first, paint scraper and razor blade, and an SOS pad. No kidding! Looked new again. Then I used the Magic Eraser on it. This was on real thick hard dirty stuff left from an apartment tenant. There is a product at Walmart called Awesome (dollar stores also sell it) that works well too. The Awesome works especially good on greasy stove hoods and in the refrigerator behind the shelves and drawers where people forget to clean sometime. Crud does build up where we dont think about.
I also run the vent and open windows when using the CLR and other cleaners. Never had a problem with fixtures or tub surrounds or anything using these products.

I never use bar soap.which cause the scum,I always use liquid bath saop,gel,wash,whatever its is called

Lime Away , works on all the "crud" that collects on the shower. You can get it at just about any grocery store.

There is a product called "Lime Away" - bright green bottle. I use it in the shower, the toilet bowls, everywhere because we have so much lime in our water. Also been using Borax (in laundry aisle) and adding a bit to the dishwasher. Also going to try Borax in the tub and in the base of our shower. We squeegie our shower doors and inside the shower also. I got clear glass instead of the frosted patterned kind just so we would do it every time. Just takes a minute and really helps. There is a product that you buy at automotive supply stores - clear glass or something. It left a film, but the water didn't make stains on the glass.

Buy a squeegee and tell your niece to squeegee the shower and the shower door (if you have one) after every shower. That prevents the build up of soap scum.

You can also just use a towel to wipe it down after each shower. With this method you also have to have a place to hang the towel so it dries during the day.

I do this every day. In addition to preventing unwanted buildup, it stretches just about my entire body. Two for the price of one!

I LOVE scrubbing bubbles! Works amazing! My mom stayed with us and told me that I had the cleanest shower she had ever seen! It does wonders! But if you have a ton of build up you might want to use a magic eraser first. It will do wonders on the massive build up. Then I would use the scrubbing bubbles after that weekly!

Mr Clean "erasers" work wonders ----

After it's cleaned, rub it with an unused dryer sheet. Helps prevent soap scum from building up again. Then just squeegee after each shower.

The best I've used is bought in the paint dept. called Krud Kutter. I buy it in the gallon jug and dilute it or use it full strength if needed. It's all the cleaning product I need and one jug last me all year. We use it to clean everything. And it's good for the environment, safe for kids and pets, and you don't need to wear gloves, and still works great.

That is exactly what I do. Squeegy and wipe down everyday. It's a pain at the time, but well worth it. You will never have to use elbow grease to clean your glass shower doors.

I only use liquid soap, so there is no soap scum or messy soap dish.

Has anyone tried using vinegar?

I have switched to liquid bath soap too and find it a lot easier to keep clean. I will use Scrubbing bubbles after a shower and let it do the work :thumbup:

I just remembered hearing Kirstie Alley on Oprah telling Oprah that she cleaned houses in high school and she learned a lot from the rich families she cleaned for. One family cleaned everything with Vodka! Cheap Vodka! It doesn't smell, doesn't stain and it sterilizes! Just a thought! :-)

Kaboom for the bathroom. Spray it on and when it turns white, wipe, rinse and done.

I know of 2 things that work REALLY well..
use a solution of CLR ( Calcium, Lime Rust) and water in a bucket, ( use gloves) soak the glass door/ tile walls really well, let sit for a few minutes & scrub off with a 3m scrubby ; My Mother had a Maid service in the 80's in Vegas ,.... REALLY HARD water & we used that. Then, wipe the walls & door with lemon oil to help protect the glass from build up; you'll have to repeat every time you clean but, it won't build up & it'll come off easy after the first time. I live where we have really hard water and it seems like anytime water hits anything it turns it red and it is impossible to get off. I have discovered something called "the works". I get it at the dollar store. spay it on and the soap scum, red stain, etc. GONE!! I have spent months trying to get my shower clean and nice looking and then I found this stuff and it looks brand new.

Whenever I soak our shower head in vinegar I also use it to clean the shower walls and door.

RAM cleaner--made from citrus---FABulous stuff-cleaned a shower that was BROWN---really tan after the crud came off! Landlord was amazed.

There are great reviews for the Water Conditioning Magnet being put on water pipes. No water spots or build up and water tastes better. Most five star hotels have them installed. Now they are at the price for homeowners to have. About $80 a pipe.

CAUTION! Magnetic water scams are all around and have been for years. Check them out. Just go to Scam Busters - magnetic water scams and you will find many, one example out of Kansas City is Nikkon. There is testimony from scientists in Europe, Asia and U.S. from universities and testing laboraties as to these not working and several have lawsuits against them for fraud. :(

We've been doing that for years and it all looks new, except for the shower floor which we scrub periodically. Well, DH scrubs!

Plain old white vinegar. That is how I clean my showers and windows.

CLR works wonders, I was away for a month, and well my bathroom (house did not get cleaned) and that is what I resorted to and it cleaned it up real quick and easy!

I had the same problem yesterday! I used old fashioned Borax that I had in my cupboard. It took it off without much effort. Safe, natural and clean.

Once you get it clean, use "Clean Shower" after every shower. This stuff really works! I have a clear vinyl shower curtain, and I use it on that, too. Unbelievable how well this stuff works. You would think that I bought the shower curtain yesterday it is so clean!

The Dollar stores have their own its cheaper and works the same as the high price stuff I've used both

to loosen the scum, after you shower take a new dryer sheet (Bounce seems to work best) and wipe down the shower door and/or tiles ... the next time you shower do it again and everything should be gone ... from then on I wipe the shower quickly every so often after I shower ... everything is gone!

A sure way to keep it off is to dry the walls and faucet after every use.

It's works like Lime Away, only it's called
THE WORKS. You can get it at the Dollar Tree. Just don't get it on any metal like your faucets.
I don't like to spray it on because of the fumes. I soak it on an old cloth, wipe it on, wait 1 minute and wipe it off, no elbow grease needed.
I keep it in both my bathrooms because my grandkids are pigs when they come in to take a bath at night.
The kids, 4 of them, are grounded this week because they took a shovel out of the garage and dug a 3 foot wide, 3 foot deep hole in my yard. They were looking for treasure. I wouldn't let them in the house, had to hose them off outside before they could come in.
