coming from a country that doesnt have squirrels I love them I think they are the cutest and funny critters ever .I dont have bird feeders only squirrel feeders.Is there anyone else who loves these little critters? They give me many hours of laughter watching them and I have been taught how to look after the babies when orphaned

I dont have squirrels, I have rabbits. My old neighborhood had squirrels and feeding them can make them friendlier. We used to have them come right up to us if you wanted them that close or not. My cousin's dog eat a piece of a dried corn cob that a squirrel left in their yard and cost them 2000.00 to get it out of the dogs stomach, the dog nearly died. So you might want to make sure you only use whole cobs stuck to a long nail so the only eat the kernals and dont run off with them.

They eat all my bird food that is for sure. We have black ones in this neck of the woods. I couldn't keep us with feeding them as they are like teenage boys, eat all and everything in site. :)

I used to have a squirrel that I fed everyday for 2 years but she disappeared. She would come to my back door when she was hungry but wouldn't get closer then 5 feet to me. She would run off any other squirrels and birds that would come around.

I had one for a few years that came and watched in the window when I was doing dishes. He cracked me up! He clung to the screen and was always looking so interested. Also had a pet one when I was a kid raised him from tiny. My brother found him one day he had fallen out of the nest. We eventually turned him lose on my dads hunting land.

Yes, we put out food for squirrels and birds. Fun to watch "Friar Tuck" rule the food bowl. When done then moves so the birds can feed on what they like.

I used to feed the birds, and enjoyed it.

Then it became feeding the squirrels and the birds, and I enjoyed it.

Then the squirrels needed to go to Weight Watchers and I couldn't afford the birds and WW for the squirrels.

Sadly the birds have lost out.

Just be careful and wary ... the little varmints can crawl into cracks you won't see and thus into your home. Also, they can tear thru window screen as well as animal proof screening and come into your home. (yes, I have learned that lesson and now have heavy steel screen on my kitchen windows ... not as pretty, but at least I don't live quite so much in fear of their invasion)


No longer do I care for squirrels ... though can appreciate the fun you have in watching and feeding them.

what country are you coming from? Our Germany students just loved all the squirrels because they do have them.

always loved squirrels. Sammy used to come to the slider and be hand fed through a small crack by me. He was big and gray.

Now here in NH we have the most adorable small red/brown squirrels. none tha I can tell have become regulars. I throw out
stale bread or cereal for them. The bird feeders are in the front
so far they have not found them, they stay in the woods out back.

On the other hand.... my neice hates them. when she was small they seemed to chase her. One sat on the overhang of door and peed on her as she went out!!!!
So now every christmas she gets squirrel ornaments or tee shirts or feeders, placemats etc. she does not think this is funny. LOL we do! :lol: :lol: :D :-D

Do.Not.Like.Squirrels.

Neighbor overfeeds the squirrels. We are overrun with squirrels. We have squirrels trails in our yard, where they have worn away all the grass. They take one bite out of every tomato, even if we leave water out for them. Yesterday there were 14 squirrels just in our small suburban front yard, cavorting and having 'fun'. Guess we'll have even more squirrels soon.

Neighbor also feeds birds. Can't leave a car out in the driveway for even a few minutes without it getting 'dropped on'.

Guess I don't really dislike squirrels. I just dislike the quantity of squirrels we have, and the damage they do.
