FroggyinTexas 09-24-2011 10:33 AM

We are living in a frustrating time. Jobs are scarce, money is scarce, we are all getting older even if we are only three months old now, most of us have an ache or a pain in the morning and maybe still at night. Some of us have children or grandchildren who are in the thick of one of the two wars we are engaged in. Lots of people are nearly overwhelmed. They need to be lifted up, not shoved down.

I would like, at least once, to log into this board, and find someone singing someone's praises--the employee at JoAnn's who helped you find just the right shade of blue, the clerk at WalMart who told you when the next shipment of cantalopes would be in, the owner of the LQS who spent time coordinating your fabrics for a baby quilt.

Instead, there seems to be this constant need to complain about husband, boyfriend, mother, daughter, the clerk at JoAnn's or WalMart or at the LQS and there seems also to be a constant need to be right/correct about every definition of every quilting term no matter whether there is a widely accepted defintion.

Could we all just get over it and try to be happier about having the means and the opportunity to be creative? froggyintexas

I like the way you think

LOL i think you were just doing what you did not want to see on the board. It is hard sometimes to always be upbeat. Have a great day and smile

You wrote a very negative post - about negativity. I don't think QB members predominately post negative comments. I find the board very positive & supportive.

Today in Texas it is beautiful weather.. My grandkids came over and picked threw my stash and asked to make a quilt.. So I want to praise God for His Son... Praise God fir my health. Praise America for all our freedom... And praise grandkids who make an old quilting women feel like a million doller prize... Cuz they want to hang with gramma and respect the art if quilting.... Hugs and kisses to all on this great, quilting site... Where we vent, praise, cry, learn and respect each others opinions...<><

I'm so new at quilting I thought CARPING was a block ??? Now that's funny.. Anyway u look st it.

The most wonderful thing about the QB is you can find almost anything you want . If you want to see beautiful quilts, they are aplenty. You want to hear a funny joke/story, they are here. You need to vent, you can. You need to see that you are not alone, because you did something stupid, you can find it here. This Board can be a real friend if you want it to be.

There are plenty of thread where people give kudos to others, and the moderators work very hard to keep out the ones that are ultra negative. And it was good for froggyintexas to vent also. This is a wonderful site and I am very thankful to all that participate.

GizmoFan13577 09-24-2011 10:49 AM

Yesterday I was at a brand new Joann Fabric shop in Scarsdale, NY getting a piece of fabric cut. I was chatting with the lady that was cutting my fabric about how pretty her hair was. As I glanced down at the 3/8 yd of fabric she was cutting I noticed there wasn't a "pretty" selvage edge (collecting selvages for an upcoming quilt)on my piece, rather these markings started after my piece of fabric. When I said I wish I had purchased more so I could get that edge she immediately took back the piece she had cut and recut it to include the edge I wanted. I was shocked she would do something like that. She replied by saying, "what a fresh breath of air it is to wait on a nice customer for a change"!

SherriB 09-24-2011 10:51 AM

I thought it would be a post about carp fishing!!!! LOL!! DH likes fishing.

ThayerRags 09-24-2011 11:05 AM

With the current drought going on now, I’d say it’s probably not easy being a froggy in Texas. I’m going to cut her some slack......

I second these thoughts. Moderators work very hard at keeping this site safe for all of us to use, as we feel we need to at that given time. We do support each other in quilting endeavors, but also in times of stress, frustration, sadness. We rejoice in others achievements, and pray for those who are in need. All of us are truly threads that make up the entire fabric of this Quilting Board.

scowlkat 09-24-2011 11:10 AM

Well there are reasons for everything. Have you considered that maybe having this site as an outlet allows some folks to refrain from taking their frustration out on their loved ones or the clerk or whomever? It is my choice whether I continue reading the post or not so I have no problem with anyone's post! (Even yours!)

muddlingabout 09-24-2011 11:14 AM

I was looking to see an Oriental fabric with orange/gold fishies. Re: some peoples need to vent, etc.,it might be helpful to know that this may be their only forum to let off steam. Maybe noone at home will listen, or perhaps it is not safe to express themselves. Hope that their day/life gets better and that they will find beauty in the little things.

When I click on this I didn't know what
carping was either, maybe a new quilting secret. Just tell you how much I know.
But I do agree with the above comments, nicely said.

joyce blint 09-24-2011 11:28 AM

Actually, it reminds me of people thanking other members for help, surprise pkgs, advice, patterns, etc. Also, of comments re' good customer service at fabric stores and on-line. Of sharing interesting web sites. Pic's of our accomplishments and families and furballs. Of telling us about pretty new lines of fabric being introduced. I'm willing to bet most of the above mentioned can be found in the last wk's threads on this Board. Personally, I love this Board as it is, and hope it doesn't change.

You must have missed this post:

and this one..

and what about this one:

There are 100's of good positive stories on this board. But then people only see what they want to see. Be postive yourself and you will see positive in others

Just a thought...
:)

MTS...

There are many generations on this board. and over the generations, acceptable terminology has changed time and time again. not always easy for everyone to keep up.

Let's try to assume the best?

athomenow 09-24-2011 11:50 AM

I must not be reading what you are. I don't think I've seen that negativity but maybe I'm just not looking for it. I have a wonderful time where ever I go and if it doesn't kill me then the experience is either a learning one, a forgiving one and just a moment in time. This too shall pass is my motto!

Barb44 09-24-2011 11:56 AM

I don't find a great deal of negativity here. But if we can't vent to our friends where do we vent? DH already gets enough of that. If no one ever complained I would think I was the only one having a bad day. If you don't like the complaints, don't read them. The nicest people on the web are on this board and this is the most friendly, supportive group I've ever been a part of.

susie-susie-susie 09-24-2011 12:15 PM

Sometimes it helps to carp a little to people like us who understand and on many occasions have had a simular experience. It keeps peace at home, and usually DH doesn't know what you are talking about anyway. If it gets too heated, you can always move on.
Sue

Tropical 09-24-2011 12:17 PM

Sounds good to me. Once I see that a post is negative, I move on. :)

I second this!!!

familyfun 09-24-2011 12:28 PM

I must have missed something because I almost never see a negative post on this board.
I have not been here long but I am always so overwhelmed by the amount of encouragement and helpfulness on this board. I personally have never posted anything and gotten a negative comment about it (even if I think it isnt that good) I have always gotten responses to my questions and alot of pm's that are very friendly and helpful.. Well except one time but it was just a difference in opinion and I at least appreciated the fact that the poster sent me a pm and did not put her negativity out there for Everyone to see. I actually even told her so when I pm'd back.
I want to just say Thank you for all your time and support you give others.

janey39quilts 09-24-2011 12:42 PM

I personally love to read this board because it inspires me to keep trying to get better.

deedum 09-24-2011 12:47 PM

I rarely ever, if ever seen a negative post here. I have seen where people have posted how they feel about service they received when they are spending there hard earned money. Both good and not so good, but that is life! We share here!
This board is wonderful, good hearted, sharing, caring, thoughtful and whom I consider my internet quilting buddies! I have always found this the most welcoming and comforting board to visit!
Hugs

Maybe it is luck of the draw, but probably 80% of the posts I read are positive, beautiful and supportive. I don't read every post so maybe I am missing the "carping".

Sadiemae 09-24-2011 12:49 PM

If you tired of "carping", don't read them...

Dolphyngyrl 09-24-2011 01:19 PM

I think people are venting here more than they are complaining, they are just looking for a place to let off some steam and hear some encouragement. I don't think most people intentions are to be negative!!!

BellaBoo 09-24-2011 01:50 PM

Just don't read the posts that drag you down. I think there are more positive posts here then complaining ones. It's not a rosy world out there so why pretend it is?
