I don't even own a tv but the news about all those real life characters filters in anyway. And alot of the reason I don't have a tv is because of shows like that and some of the evening sitcoms are bad too.Once I watched 2 episodes of "Family Guy" at someones home (couldn't change the channel, not my tv)and I was SHOCKED! I wasn't born yesterday (as my Dad used to say) but it was horrible.
I have my computer and can watch re runs of this and that on "Hulu" or even watch DVD's on my computer. I miss Animal Planet and Discovery is about all. |
I don't watch much tv. Don't know why anyone would want to waste their time watching the junk or trash that comes on these days. Hubby stays on the history channel, the western channel, or football. Those are the only channels our tv knows...
These shows are a good reason I quit watching TV altogether several years ago.
I don't believe there actually is a point to these shows!
There is no point, it just shows how lame tv has really become over the years, i think they really need to ditch reality tv IMHO, it was hot ten years ago, and now its cold, they just have nothing new to put on tv which is why they have resorted to these stupid shows, it like the new kid on a sitcom, you know when something is dying off

DH and I find it a hoot that my FIL who is 83 years old, watches all the reality programs. We were visiting a little over a year ago when Kelly Osbourne was on Dancing with the Stars and he told us that she was the daughter of Ozzie and Harriet. She's the daughter of Ozzie Osbourne, who is light years from Ozzie Nelson, and not in a good way if you ask me. We knew it was just a mistake but we still laugh about that one. As for us, we have never and never will watch so-called reality TV.
We just got Netflix a couple of days ago, they are offering a free month, and I could not believe the great tv shows they have from the past. This is going to be a blast. But I have to admit, I have a thing for Gordon Ramsey, even tho he throws more F Bombs than anyone I know. I like to watch him on BBC. (Well, we all have our dirty little secrets, don't we?) LOL
Well, I know a few people who watch a couple of these shows as well. All I can say is while I do not understand their fascination the feeling is mutual and they do not get my "thing" for vampires.... :) LOL So we leave it at that. lol
LOST was my absolute show and honestly this year I feel...lost without it (no pun intended) I'm totally addicted to Bones and Criminal Minds. For reality shows I enjoy Amazing Race, Survivor and the occasional Hoarders - I can only stomach that show a little at a time. So sad. Oh and I do watch 16 & Pregnant/Teen Mom with my almost 17 year old daughter. I know it sounds cliche' but we really do have some good discussions out of it. I only watch those because she watches them. |

Fast forward to the present: a LOT of women work outside the home, so don't ever watch soap operas. So the tv stations put on reality shows at night to fill the void of snooping into other people's lives. Just a theory.

Shari one time my 16 yr. old DD put on facebook 16 and pregnant yay!! So I wrote back saying is there something you need to tell me? I was getting upset because all of our family would see that even her boyfriends mom. All I could think is how could she do this and not come to me. Finally she responded with MOM it's a tv show!!!!! That child was lucky I didn't bust her bedroom down. LOL!!

I agree.....decent hardworking people are boring I guess, so they have to look to the gutter to entertain. It makes me shudder at the mentality of the people who watch that stuff.
In my opinion there is no reason for these kind of shows to be on t.v. I've never watched them because I've seen previews that don't interest me at all. If they want to put "reality" shows on why don't they show "real" families. Mothers driving in 6 different directions taking kids to practice, friends, grocery shopping, that's reality. I sure don't sit around chitchating with friends in expensive clothes. I'm out gardening, cleaning, sewing cooking. They must have a very boring life.
I guess the one thing these show can do though, make us thankful that we do have a lot to be thankful for, a normal family life. |
Some people do not have a life and use these shows to substitute.

These kind of shows are probably real cheap to make. Don't have to pay writers for quality scripts or people who can actually act. TV programming is terrible.
I've never watched any of them. When I ran across them (channel surfing) left it on for about 30 seconds and turned it off. Then turned the tv to music channels and went back to sewing.

I have not, nor will I watch this type of show. I have 2 sisters who regularly get together one night a week to watch "Trash" tv. What a waste of time, in my opinion.

Just shows us how DULL these folks really are! More excitement here and REAL life drama where I live. Those shows are made made to bore us and put folks to sleep.

I dont like reality tv.I have never seen survivors either.(my 81 year old mom wont miss it!).I like History channel, some things on AE,Hallmark(re runs of Matlock and Murder She Wrote(Love Angela Lansbury)I like ID ,interesting shows. I am particularly upset that Oprah took over Disc.Health channel. Its all about her and her little clique, and I cant stand to watch it now.Once in awhile I like American Pickers.Kind of fun to see what all they run across.
I thought I was the only one upset about Oprah taking over Discovery Health. Now I will downgrde my cable stations-there really is nothing to watch.
I can't for the life of me understand why anyone watches that garbage ! And what the heck is the point of seeing their disfunctional families argue and scream at each other.
I seldom watch tv because there is seldom anything worth watching.
reality? where is the reality when a bunch of no bodies are followed around by a bunch of makeup/camera/lighting/general crew/producers/writers/lawyers etc!
I find more reality watching people at red lights and check out lines, lol. And, most people do not take the time/ interest in the world around them to notice it! Take the time to notice how people interact - its an eyeopener. When you do, you can go thru life in a much better mood - (I always take the time to watch the checkout person and how shes treated/dealing w/ people ahead of me, sometimes, by the time I get to her shes throwing my groceries all over the place. I say something like: gosh, you sure have a hard job, or seems like a long day already, something sincere and caring -people need to feel others care. The people in line, too. I often tell strangers I like something they have on, top, coat, hat whatever - but I sincerely do. Go thru life noticing as if you were going to be called to testify as a witness in a trial - Thats the "reality" in the real world) It also is very good for your quilting, your imagination is heightened and you get more creative for noticing details. share t |
I agree with you 100%. I have never watched any of these shows and never will. Lots of garbage on television. I like to watch shows that make me laugh or I learn something (like the history channel) I am new to quilting. I have Dish network and have not run across and quilting or sewing shows. Does anyone know if there are any?
Nope, I dont watch them either.

Oops, forgot what I was going to mention in regard to these so called reality shows. Many of the reality "stars, starlets" have started with sex/nude/etc showings. How sad and how sad that many viewers would not miss these shows for any reason.
I don't understand why they got so popular. Someone must be watching because that type of show has multiplied. There is just not much on TV any more that is worth my time.
My feeling is some people are living their lives thru these shows. When they talk about these shows it is like the are talking about their friends.
And my question is: Who in their right mind, finds any of these shows entertaining?
I have never seen any of them...just heard/read about them. I dont understand reality shows...I remember seeing one at a relatives house that was sickening. People eating/or putting faces into sickening things like raw meat or bugs. I think the shows that encourage meanness are awful and wish they would all go away.
