What is your favorite Christmas song?

I grew up singing German songs for Christmas in our little Lutheran church and still remember "Kling Glichen" and ending Christmas Eve service with "Stille Nacht". In college I learned a medieval song "Adam Lay Embounded" and my children learned in their school "Bring a Torch Jeannette Isabella". I also like "Coventry Carol" from our time in England, and we decorate our tree by "Once in David's Royal City. I love to hear and sing along to many more. What songs do you enjoy?

quiltingme 12-03-2012 06:25 PM

Silent Night, Silver Bells, sleigh Ride.

hopetoquilt 12-03-2012 06:37 PM

Away in the manager is my favorite...

Up North 12-03-2012 08:07 PM

Silent night at Christmas is a favorite of mine. I like all the Christmas songs but that on seems to stand out the most

KwiltyKahy 12-03-2012 08:17 PM

"Do you hear what I hear?" and "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day" "Coventry Carol" and "Bring a torch Jeannette Isabella" are good too.

COYOTEMAGIC 12-03-2012 08:55 PM

When I was a kid I would have solos for the youth choir. Silent Night and Away in the Manger were always my favorite.

Unfortunately I nearly lost my voice permanently due to severe repeated "tonsilitis" when I was 12. You don't want me to sing now!!

jclinganrey 12-03-2012 09:21 PM

'White Christmas' by Bing Crosby is my secular favorite. For traditional Christmas carols, I really like 'Oh Holy Night'.

Angels We have Heard on High and White Christmas are my favorites. We always ring in the holiday on Thanksgiving evening by watching White Christmas.

TanyaL 12-04-2012 12:44 AM

O Little Town of Bethlehem, Hark the Harold Angels Sing, It Came Upon the Midnight Clear

gramajo 12-04-2012 04:23 AM

Oh Holy Night is my favorite. It brings to mind a church with a steeple set high on a hill that we drove by on the way to my aunt's house every Christmas Eve when I was a kid. There was always snow on the ground.

nygal 12-04-2012 04:48 AM

My favorite is "Mary Did You Know?" You can hear it on you tube . Brings me to tears every time I hear it.

Quilt-Till-U-Wilt 12-04-2012 05:38 AM

O Holy Night and Christmas in Dixie.

kateyb 12-04-2012 06:18 AM

Silent Night is my favorite. I sometimes go to a National Park near here and climb a mountain path and sing it for me on Christmas eve.

"Who is He in Yonder Stall" is my favorite, especially as it's performed by the SMS men's choral group. I tear up every time I hear this song.

Nanamoms 12-04-2012 06:53 AM

"O, Holy Night"and "Little Drummer Boy" for Traditional and Dolly Parton's "Hard Candy Christmas" for my Secular one!

ranger 12-04-2012 11:02 AM

My favorite is Auld Lang Syne.
My favorite carol is Oh Holy Night.

TnBecky 12-04-2012 11:08 AM

I like them all, but my new favorite is - Becky Kelley - Where's the Line to See Jesus. I have never heard it on the radio, but it is such a very true Christian song. Here is a link to it, I hope that you will give it a listen. I always cry while listening to it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OExXItDyWEY

Dear LenaBeena
I was trying very hard to remember a german christmas song with the name "Kling Glichen" until the bell rang! It is called "Kling Glöckchen" and means ring little bell. I love that song too and look forward to christmas and singing all those traditional songs with children and grandchildren.

Jingle 12-04-2012 01:45 PM

All I Want For Christmas Is You. I like all the old ones and almost, if not all new ones. Ones with a lively beat appeals to me also.

Susan G. 12-04-2012 02:52 PM

Mine is Mary did you know and O Holy Night. I love all things Christmas, but this year I am having trouble getting myself going. It is was to warm here for christmas. I want and seem to need snow. For me that is a big part of my christmas tradition. I love snow. the more the better.

Tink's Mom 12-04-2012 03:16 PM

Our small Lutheran church always ends Christmas Eve services with candle light and Silent Night....but I have love for O Holy Night, too.

Sheila_H 12-04-2012 03:23 PM

lynnie 12-04-2012 03:43 PM

Father christmas by emerson lake and palmer...christmas cant come till i hear it.
the song is so beautiful. Also, if youre hoping to see someone, thats when i started to love it about 30 yrs ago. Go to you tube and listen, not what you think. No " loud" music, very nice melody.

Sewflower 12-04-2012 04:36 PM

Silver Bells because it was my mom's favorite I think of her each times I hear it even though she has been gone 30 years

quiltingcurious 12-04-2012 05:06 PM

What Child Is This?, Mary Did You Know?, O Holy Night, It Came Upon The Midnight Clear.

Annieflower 12-04-2012 05:17 PM

I love to sing Oh Holy Night, I'm Dreaming of A White Christmas, The Messiah, Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire.
It's that beautiful time of year for music to lift the spirits and share with others. We are alone and it's our saving grace. How about Mannheim Steamroller? Joyful Holidays!

honeybea 12-05-2012 04:26 AM

Bring a Torch Jeanette Isabelle and O holy Night

sewmom 12-05-2012 04:32 AM

First and foremost - o Holy Night. I love most Christmas songs. I'll Be Home for Christmas is also played a lot when one of my children can't be here- which is every year it seems. The Gatlin Brothers sing Sweet Baby Jesus and it brings tears to my eyes.

be a quilter 12-05-2012 04:41 AM

"Mary Did You Know"

jitkaau 12-05-2012 05:15 AM

http://youtu.be/wJH9ToUdMBQ, http://youtu.be/1wqoFg6Vabo, There are others, but these two are good examples. Australian Christmas is in the middle of Summer. It generally has a temperature around 30 degrees Celsius but can get into the 40s.

Iraxy 12-05-2012 06:17 AM

Silent Night always brings a tear to my eye. I love all the Mannheim Steam Roller adaptations of the Christmas songs.

mountain deb 12-05-2012 06:20 AM

Silent night, Away in the manger, and oh there are so many..

scarlet14 12-05-2012 06:51 AM

The Little Drummer Boy and White Christmas

callen 12-05-2012 06:51 AM

O Holy Night is my absolute favorite & the right people have to sing it. Some have done a "not such Holy" performance but if people like Celine Dion & some others who have powerful voices perform it, it brings tears to my eyes.

kydeb 12-05-2012 07:37 AM

Well, this is going to sound bad but when my kids were young, we loved 'Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer!' We played it LOUD while we put up the tree!! I still love it - sentimental memories ;-) I also love the Grinch theme....I know....I'm twisted! As for a "traditional" Christmas song, 'Do You Hear What I Hear?' wins out!

Cagey 12-05-2012 08:42 AM

One of my favorites is "Mary did you know"

solstice3 12-05-2012 09:37 AM

I have 3 favorites. "Do you hear what I hear?", "The Little Drummer Boy," and the John and Yoko song... " So this is Christmas." (I think that is the title...it could be "War is Over")

matraina 12-05-2012 10:04 AM

My favorite has always been "Oh Holy Night". When I was in grade school, I was in the choir and we did that song in 3-part harmony. It was beautiful. In the past few years, a new one came out, "Mary, did you Know?". It is beautiful, too.

IBQLTN 12-05-2012 10:29 AM

Midnight mass wouldn't be the same without four of my favorite songs -- Angels We Have Heard On High, Away in a Mnager, Silent Night at the close of Communion and leaving to Joy to the World!

Modern day ... Mary Did You Know? Where's the Line to See Jesus?

Secular - White Christmas, No Place Like Home for the Holidays, Silver Bells.
