My son, who works at The Shack here in Honolulu, got to know all the captains of "Deadliest Catch" while they were here 2 weeks ago filming "After The Catch" for their season-ender. I got to meet and spend several hours with Scatman Crothers when he was in Boise filming Bronco Billy with Clint Eastwood. Met Clint Eastwood while skiing in Sun Valley, Idaho. I got to play an authentic Stradivarius violin owned by a visiting professional violinist while I was in high school.

I was on Romper Room. Many many years ago.

My husband and I met with Gerald McRainey a few years back at a political rally. What a nice man he is. It was kind of weird, my husband and him had on the same outfit. LOL.

dogpursemaker 07-03-2011 01:20 PM

WOW! A Stradivarius? My best friend in high school was a violinist. We went to DC with Close Up, and we HAD to see the Stradivarius. Unfortunately, our timing was wrong, so she wasn't able to hear it being played. She would be so jealous....

Worked around and met Tom Cruise, Gene Hackman, Holly Hunter, Andy Romano, William Forsythe, Cathy Moriarty, Treat Williams, Eric Thal, David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel

Clint Eastwood, Cecily Tysen, Elizabeth Kubler-Ross, and Mary Kay Ash, founder of Mary Kay cosmetics. They were all at a dinner event in LA in the early 70's honoring students who excelled. The company that my husband worked sponsered the event. Got Clint's autograph. But the most interesting thing was the juxtapostion of Mary Kay in all her glamor, big hair, makeup and jewels sitting next to Elizabeth KR in her cotton dress and berkenstock shoes, not a lick of makeup, no jewlery and unkept hair.

This is a fun topic. However, my claim to fame, other than being raised by great parents, marrying a super man, raising three fantastic kids, and blessed with five Grands, is that....are you ready for this? Hold on to your drawers,

I stayed in a Holiday Inn last night!

I once waited on Cindy Crawford's family when she had first been signed to her modeling contract. I attended high school with David Hasselhoff's younger sister, Jean and knew his dad - actually went out in their boat a few times. Can't stand the Hoff now, but sure liked him when he was Snapper on the Young and the Restless.

I also have parents married 72 1/2 years, still in their own home, Dad still drives to meet us for lunch every Wednesday and they kiss all the time. That's a pretty big claim to fame. This subject was fun.

Did David Hasselhoff play Snapper on The Young and The Restless those many years ago? I seem to remember an actor with the last name of Gray.

My lifetime wish was to sing in the Billy Graham Crusade when he was in Minneapolis about 10 years ago.Practice and the actual event was like heaven!

Never could stand Tanya Tucker until she appeared at the GA Ag Center in Perry and I got to meet her. She was so gracious and friendly that I completely changed my mind about her.

We were sitting on the front row at the Grand Ole Opry and a man in jeans and a T-shirt just walked up and started talking to us. To our surprise, a little while later he appeared on stage. It was Laddie Cain of the Four Guys.

sassey 07-03-2011 03:43 PM

Back in the 80's I won a contest to ride the new roller coaster at the local amusement park with Leif Garrett..hey, I was 16, he was in Tiger Beat all the time. And I did get to ride the roller coaster like 10 times without standing in line.

We're friends with NASCAR driver Joe Nemecheck and his family, and his mom and dad, and in fact, I made his son, John Hunter, a baby quilt when he was born. I have met and have autographs from several of the older NASCAR drivers: Mark Martin, Bobby Allison, Cale Yarborough, Buddy Baker, Harry Gant, Rusty Wallace.

diane Sneed 07-03-2011 07:22 PM

When I was about eight a guy stopped his motorcycle and asked if I or my little brother wanted to ride.{Before you freak-it was the fifties} He stopped a couple of days and we would talk to him. Our Mom was sitting on the porch and said we could talk to the stranger.Well, I finally asked him what he did and he told us Oh, I sing some and like to play my guitar. Well, after 3 or 4 days we finally asked Mama if we could ride with him and She said ,"okay, if he comes back you can ride with him."He didn't come and he told me the day before he needed to go to work in Ca. It was ELVIS!

nativetexan 07-03-2011 07:26 PM

Hopefully here are some people out there who think of me as having been a good nurse to them. That would be nice.

My husband and I were in a club in Nashville listening to amateur night. Boxcar Willy came in to watch. I asked him if I could take his picture. He said "on one condition, that you sit on my knee and we have someone else take the picture". So I have that picture. He died about a year later. He was a very down to earth and genuine person.

I've been enjoying reading this so much and love the story of Dancing with Richard Gere in Costco, meeting Bob Seager, Don Williams and all the rest. My only claim to fame is being the daughter of a Chauffeur and a French Upstairs Maid. Ho Hum...

writerwomen 07-03-2011 08:46 PM

Well, actually it's a constant issue. Over the years we have been stopped many times. People mistake my husband for the actor Ray Romano and other times for Nicholas Cage- (neither of which I see) Anyways. Since the show Everybody Loves Raymond we have been approached and asked many times about who he is and then they turn to me and say - and I suppose your name is Deborah. Actually it is.

I was lost and without hope...and Jesus came and found me! :-)

angelwatcher 07-03-2011 10:10 PM

Interesting thread, made me think back over the years of who I've met while waitressing, owning a sign supply store and just in happenstance. Pat Boone, Debbie Boone, Anson Williams, Ron Howard and his family, Robert Redford, Joe Mannix, Bobbie Vinton, The Oak Ridge Boys and their entourage, Big Daddy Ed Roth, Von Dutch (1950's pinstriper), Patty Duke. Just remember, we all put our pants on one leg at a time, and sometimes fame can be a burden.

Had dinner with the head of the Nordic Council. Of course that only has meaning in the Nordic countries I guess.

I forgot about that, I met 2 of the munchkins. The ywere in Myrtle Beach. One was the boy who handed Dorothy the lollipop and the other held different part. He was one who woke up in the nest. I do have my own!

My dad shot pool and drank beer with Jimmy Dean and danced with Patsy Cline. He said she was so skinny he could reach all the way around her waist and tickle himself in the belly. You'd have to know my dad. My sister-in-law was on a plane behind Densel Washington. My mother-in-law met Dolly Parton.

Got to go back stage at the Grand Ol" Opray a couple of times. Had my picture taken with lots of the artists - Holly Dunn, Jimmy Dickens, Porter Wagner, Ricky Skaggs, Skeeter Davis, Riders in the Sky......I felt like I was all that and a bag of chips! Good memories!

Nice fun topic this 4th of July and boy-oh-boy do some of us date ourselves as we recall those who impress us. Back in the day....lol....as president of the Association of Women Students on a small college campus, I was on tv with Marilyn VanDerbur. She was Miss America in 1957-8 and a delightful person who later founded the American Coalition for Abuse Awareness and One voice, plus Miss America By Day: Lessons Learned from Ultimate Betrayals and Unconditional Love.

Another fun visit for me was playing the piano in the Estes Park, Co. Stanley Hotel when the spirits-ghost-whatever locked up the keys and sent a chill up my back until I sat up straight. It has been said that Flora Stanley's ghost (wife of 1909 builder) has played the piano in the early morning hours. The Stanley is also where Stephen King got his inspiration for his novel The Shining.

I almost forgot this one. I went to the Austin County fair in Bastrop, TX, where my sister, myself, and her son, met and visited with Buddy Jewel. I even got a big hug! He is a true southern gentleman!

This doesn't involve a famous person, and really, I'd doubt anyone here knows what I'm talking about (but it's a big deal) BUT
I had the first basenji ever, at our yearly national specialty, win an Award of Merit from the Field Trial Class.

Oh, and one time, when we were in the Marirot next to the asirport in San Franciso, at the restaurant, I saw Tiger Woods with a confused look on his face, like 'Where am I supposed to be?" (They were having some sports breakfst there) He thought he was sneaking in the back door, huh uh, I saw him)
