What's your Other Hobby?

We are all quilters here and likely spend most of our free time doing that, but what else do you do?

My free time is spent between quilting and my namesake Watson, my horse. We show Dressage, which you can compare to figure skating compulsories....There is a standard test of figures which must be completed at certain points, in the required gait, in an arena within a time frame. Except in dressage, only one of the competitors (the rider) knows the test!

Here he is all dolled up for his show....

So...what do you do with your spare time???

Watson

ManiacQuilter2 06-04-2016 04:41 AM

Your baby is beautiful. I use to exercise polo ponies that paid for my college education. I love horse jumping but never got into dressage. I just quilt and nap in my golden years.

orangeroom 06-04-2016 04:41 AM

Wow! He is beautiful! What a fun 'other hobby' to have! My outside life belongs to children, Sophie, husband and full time job. Our children are 24 (expecting in Sept), 21 (just got married last year), and 16 (the only one still at home). Sophie is my burnese mountain dog-she's 4. I love what I do for a living, so I've got many more years of that!

Beautiful pic of you and Watson! Keeping it classy!

quiltbuddy 06-04-2016 05:15 AM

I love your horse, he's very beautiful. Besides quilting I like to do anything fiber related, sewing, weaving on a huge Swedish style loom and spinning yarn straight from the sheep. i did so some rug hooking but found there is just not enough time in the day so I'm trying to concentrate on just the things I love to do.

Geri B 06-04-2016 05:17 AM

He is a handsome steed! Watched a competition once...friend of my dd...quite interesting...so precise...like horse ballet! Dd is not into English....prefers western and all of its aspects......with her flea-bitten (color description) quarter horse, Albadore....

i have but one hobby......quilting. That is enough!

gramajo 06-04-2016 05:29 AM

Watson is beautiful! I've enjoyed gardening for years, but no anymore. Knees won't let me; I can get down but can't get back up. I have some house plants I take care of, but that's the extent of my gardening. I quilt a lot!

susie-susie-susie 06-04-2016 05:49 AM

Watson is beautiful!!!! You must be really proud of him. We used to show POA's (Pony of the Americas) when the kids were small. They can only be shown by children 18 and under. After that my DH realized a dream he has had a long time and became a race horse trainer. He started with hired trainers, but they wouldn't do things his way, so he started training himself. My part of his hobby involved watching the races and betting. He was fairly successful and the last horse he trained has to retire this year. There is a nice article about him on my Facebook page if anyone is interested. Now my only hobby is quilting (I'm getting old) and his hobby is bothering me while I'm quilting (just kidding). I don't consider them a hobby, but my DGKids interest me a lot--no babysitting, they are getting too old.

You have a beautiful horse. Other then quilting, I enjoy baking, reading, going and doing anything outside. And I actually enjoy keeping my home very organized and clean. It's not a chore for me. I love waking up to a clean nice home every morning.

Crqltr 06-04-2016 06:25 AM

I've been working on getting my flower beds looking decent, I am not a big fan of gardening but I like the end results!
I have spent bit of time creating a fairy garden in one of the beds. Still needs work but it's cute, my husband thinks I'm crazy but I just tell him we couldn't afford doll houses when I was growing up! I have all the scrap book tools but haven't done much of that lately....other than that I work part time and nap ...

Your horse is stunning/beautiful. My niece does Western and English. I myself like to do crosswords even though I get frustrated but it keeps the mind active.

Barbshobbies 06-04-2016 06:54 AM

I have a mini black & white Shetland, love him, I couldn`t get him when he was born, some one else had spoken up first. So he was 4 yrs when they didn`t want him. We tried to train him, he had been left alone so much, we bearly got him tame. So sad, but we love him any way.

mrs. fitz 06-04-2016 07:02 AM

I don't know if it counts as a hobby but I'm in an adult tap class (recital is next week!) and I do Sunday-Times difficulty crossword puzzles.

sewbizgirl 06-04-2016 07:17 AM

Watson is a gorgeous creature! A horse, especially a show horse and the dicipline of dressage, is so time consuming I am amazed that you have time to quilt, too!

My other hobbies are knitting and crochet. I have written patterns and even been published. When I got into quilting all of the yarny stuff took a back seat. Just finished a pair of knitted socks recently and I always have a big crocheted afghan going, for when I am tired of standing on my feet all day and head to the couch!

I do yoga, lift weight, ride a spin bike, Pilates, and water aerobics. I teach two yoga classes and one water aerobics class per week.

Thanks so much for posting pics of Watson! I've been watching your avatar (?) wishing could see more of him! I had a quarter horse for awhile in my teens and love everything about horses. Dressage is so beautiful....are there any videos of Watson performing?

Hmmm, other hobby? For me, guess indulging in chocolate!

suern3 06-04-2016 03:23 PM

What a beautiful horse.

JuneBillie 06-04-2016 09:17 PM

That is a beautiful horse. My dad was a horse lover, and rode many too. My great nieces are growing up around horses and riding.

Other things I do besides quilting is hand embroidery, a bit of crochet, tend to my indoor flowers, and I write poetry.

jmoore 06-05-2016 03:03 AM

I wish I could have a horse... I used to ride in high school. I live on four + acres but unfortunately don't have the time for one so my next hobby is gardening. In fact, today I am setting all of my vegetable seedlings in the freshly tilled soil as we are supposed to get some heavy rain later this afternoon.

paoberle 06-05-2016 03:32 AM

I love to hike. There is nothing better than being out on the trail, away from civilization. But, since I cannot do that all the time, I walk a lot and nothing beats a good book.

quiltqueen61 06-05-2016 03:49 AM

Years ago I took a class for stained glass and did it for about 20yrs. before being introduced to quilting....I still do it from time to time....just small projects now....

Aurora 06-05-2016 04:05 AM

I also knit, crochet, embroider, and locker hook.

Karamarie 06-05-2016 04:10 AM

Beautiful horse and a great "other" hobby. My other hobbies are my flower beds, reading and repurposing.

Polliwog 06-05-2016 07:03 AM

What a beautiful picture of you and Watson! I had been wondering for a while now why you used "Watson", but was shy about asking. Have always been a cozy mystery reader and have recently gone back to knitting while watching Nexflix.

mountain-moma 06-05-2016 07:14 AM

Oh my Watson is so very Beautiful ,,,,I like to embroidery, crochet, and of course quilt and love doing tied quilts as well because I love Primitive ,,,,Can you tell I'm a Country Girl lol

GrammaTerry 06-05-2016 07:20 AM

You and your horse are a beautiful sight to see. I've enjoyed reading about everyone's hobbies. I love to do stained glass, garden, (became a Master Gardener after I retired), knitting and crocheting beginner, cross-stitch, read, read, read! It's lovely to wake up in the morning and think, "Hmmmmm! What shall I do today?"

cashs_mom 06-05-2016 08:11 AM

Watson is beautiful! I used to show hunters and jumpers back in the day. We learned some dressage to compliment it. Its very demanding, but so graceful!

Now my "other hobby" or I should say hobbies, are cars and car shows (I have a 66 Mustang and a 2011 Corvette Z06 that I show and my husband has a 34 Ford Street Rod and a 2015 Chevrolet SS that he shows) and my 3 dachshunds who amazingly can take up a lot of time for 3 smallish dogs. lol

cashs_mom....hunters and jumpers?! No way! We keep all four hooves on the ground! No jumping for us!

Thanks for all the compliments on my beautiful boy...although he was a little stinker last night. He must know there's a show coming up.

I really like to read about everyone's other hobbies. It's interesting to know what else is going on in people's lives!

He's beautiful. I love horses. My other hobby is reading (thank goodness for the local library), but I might get into woodworking. I had woodshop for 2 years in middle school. We made guitars and some other things. Just what I need, another expensive hobby :).

Your horse is GORGEOUS!! My other hobbies are photography, writing poetry, and collecting cup plates.

JENNR8R 06-05-2016 12:35 PM

I LOVE your "other hobby." I'd love to do that if I were able.

When I was growing up, I had a couple of horses. I sold my two-year old when I married at 19...

I got into several different crafts. I taught myself to crochet after a class was cancelled. Then I taught myself to do cake decorating. I made wedding cakes for 20 years for fun. Now decorating a cake feels like work.

At 52 I did my first skydive. I only meant to do one, but that turned into 719 jumps in the next seven years. I'd still be doing that every weekend if I was able.

Before I had to give up skydiving I began my first quilt. It took me 12 months to finish it. Now I'm no longer working and am glad to have a hobby that I can still do.

palandrum 06-05-2016 12:46 PM

I sing lead and backup vocals and play keyboard with a classic country music band 1-2 times a week, love to read, crochet and, of course, quilt. Probably the most prolific "hobby" I have is collecting fabric. ;0)

quiltybarb 06-05-2016 02:12 PM

Gorgeous horses! My other hobby is tropical gardening....could stay out there all day......I almost forgot one of my hobby's is fostering kittens for the Broward County Humane Society.....Quilting tho' is my passion......
