I make a baking soda paste, let it sit overnight, then wipe it off.
Most baked on stuff comes off easily this way. afraid to use any chemicals in the oven, but it is my thing |

I do use the microwave & have found that the easiest way to clean it is this - get out my biggest measuring cup, fill it about 3/4 full with water. Then cut up a lemon - into 4 pieces works fine - & put it in the water. Stick it into the microwave & set it for 5-7 minutes, so it gets good & steamy inside. I let it sit in there until it all cools off, then just wipe it out! Nice & shiny & smells good too! |
I clean mine out once a week as I do not like cleaning when I have to scrub so hard. ANd I don't trust cleaners with my Propane stone. Thanks for sharing the tips though everyone. I love the ones who don't know where the kitchen is or if there is a stove. That will be me when and if I am ever alone again.LOL

I like the hosing outside tip. I keep one grate in the oven and only pull the other out from hiding when necessary. The dirty grate, I turn over and spray the bottom and let the gunk sit. I may try the trash bag idea on the Weber Kettle bbq grate.

Works on old cookie sheets and pizza pans too!
Shoved them in a bag set them outside and couple hours later looks like new. |
My oven is my beloved 1948 Chambers, Buttercup. I use baking soda, because I am not sure she's safe to use oven cleaner on. After I bought her, I paid a small fortune to the stove hospital to have her thoroughly cleaned and her top re-chromed, so... I keep her clean!

I found a way to cure the need to clean it.....I just don't use it!:wink:!! She stays clean as a whistle!

I had to relay what happened to my sister the other day. She was baking cookies, guess people still do that. The first batch came out so she put in the second. As she closed the oven door it locked and began the "clean" cycle. She freaked out, she's 80 by the way and subject to that even when she was a teen. They ended up having to call the local fire dept. who came out, pulled out the very hot stove and unplugged it. Of course the stove had to cool down so she left it until morning. When she finally opened it, there was another perfect batch of cookies, not burned at all. :thumbup:
