You cleaned your oven? Early this morning I started cleaning my oven (hadnt been done in a year). Thought I'd share a little tip I learned a few years ago while working for a cleaning co. Cheap Dollar store oven cleaner. Remove racks, put them in a trash bag and spray them down, close bag by just folding it under, take them outside and lay them in the sun. The heat activates the cleaner. Hose them down after a couiple of hours. (Time for some quilting while waiting). Spray down inside the oven turn on 200 just long enough to get it warm in there then shut it off. Let set for an hour or two while quilting. the gunk just slides off. No scrubbing! Works on old cookie sheets and pizza pans too! Shoved them in a bag set them outside and couple hours later looks like new.

good tip, but you should not use cleaner inside oven if you have a Self-cleaning oven

thanks for the tips :) i have to do this...some time ago i had a pie overflow...forgot about it, last week went to use the oven and set off all the smoke alarms in the house...it was horrible! they are LOUD!!! and when you have 9 of them going off....well...it was quite tramatic. we started pulling batteries...they kept going off...had to flip the breaker too...
last night hubby wanted me to bake some chicken...and i said. "really? really? you want to start pulling batteries now or wait till they demand it?" he opted for a different choice; and asked...so what are we going to do about the oven? my response of course..."clean it i guess" weekend chore :)

My instruction book also said not to use cleaners inside. I just use a hot rag to wipe down the ash inside & on racks, after oven has cooled.

And I just cleaned/wiped it out 2 days ago, when the weather had cooled and I could open the kitchen window to let the smoke out. Yeah, I don't do it often enough, sometimes I even get a small fire going in there while it's cleaning! :)

I used to clean my oven only when the bottom threatened to catch fire. When I was shopping for a new stove I told my Dh that if he wasn't willing to clean the oven then he had no say in wether it was self cleaning or not. He cleaned the oven once and never batted an eye after that on the extra price for that feature. Ditto for the fridge.

If you don't have a self-cleaning oven, lay an old dish cloth (terry) in the oven on the very bottom. Pour about 1/4-1/2 cup ammonia on the towel, put drip pans (from under the burner) in, shut the door and go to bed. The next morning, wipe it clean! Racks, drip pans AND oven will come clean. If you've burned on food for a year, it may take a few tries to get it all.
