An older, tired-looking dog wandered into my yard. I could tell from his collar and well-fed belly that he had a home and was well taken care of. He calmly came over to me, I gave him a few pats on his head; he then followed me into my house, slowly walked down the hall, curled up in the corner and fell asleep.

An hour later, he went to the door, and I let
him out..

The next day he was back, greeted me in my yard, walked inside and resumed his spot in the hall and again slept for about an hour. This continued off and on for several weeks.

Curious I pinned a note to his collar: 'I would like to find out who the owner of this wonderful sweet dog is and ask if you are aware that almost every afternoon your dog comes to my house for a nap.'

The next day he arrived for his nap, with a different note pinned to his collar: 'He lives in a home with 6 children, 2 under the age of 3 He's trying to catch up on his sleep. Can I come with him tomorrow?'

Growing up in a family of 11 children I think our dog, Scamp, could have related to that one.:)

No. It was a joke I received and passed along.

The picture however I can take some credit for - at least for knowing where it came from. The dog is named Blush and she belongs to a good friend. In this picture she was doped up to relax her to accommodate a hip radiograph - you can see by the look on her face that drugs did wonders! The good news I just received today is that her hips passed with Excellent rating and coupled with her other positive health screens, she can now enter the whelping box :)

TNX You made my day.

drdolly 04-26-2011 06:30 AM

good chuckle for the day. I do have a real story of two dogs that come to my patio door every morning and whine and lay there until I let them in. They each get a treat and stay for awhile then whine to be let out and head home.

mhansen6 04-26-2011 06:41 AM

Thank you for the chuckle.

pollym44 04-26-2011 07:03 AM

I love it....been there!

mosquitosewgirl 04-26-2011 08:18 AM

ROFLMBO! My 97lb, 30 inch tall yellow lab goes to the neighbors to eat their goat chow and play with their teacup chihuahuas...even more so since my lab-akita cross died several weeks ago...

I used to have a drop in Malamute when I lived in Washington. He would come over everyday and spend several hours with us. Turns out he was a patient dog, just waiting for my female shepherd to come into season. Whoops. 12 shepherd-malamute pups. I've been much more diligent about spaying and neutering as soon as my pets are old enough ever since. LOL

We had four dogs, one of my DH friends loved Sailor! Finally my DH gave him that dog! For 8 weeks in a row the dog would show at our house every Saturday around 8.30 a.m. , spent the day with us then go back to his new house around 4.00 p.m. 3 miles each way.

Katts 14 04-26-2011 09:44 AM

I have to tell my friend she has a cat that comes by everyday like that she says she owns a half a cat.

EskapetheNorm 04-26-2011 09:52 AM

svenskaflicka1 04-26-2011 03:56 PM

can't help it. i'm dyin' here, from laughing!! this picture just kills me every time i see it! (i can relate to the sedation aspect. i give anesthesia--and i've had patients who've had the same look on their faces!)

valsma 04-26-2011 04:03 PM

Hilarious! Being the mother of 3 furkids and the grandmother of two grandchildren who enjoy "playing" with our dogs, I can relate to this story. Every now and then when the grandkids are here one of our dogs we have to look for because she has taken herself off to a corner to get out of playing with the grandkids. Thanks for sharing.

ging10ging 04-26-2011 04:27 PM

How true when you have little ones. Nice of you to let him take his nap and go home. That's cute. Sue
