I really like to see where you are from. I like to read where you are living or quilting from. My dad was in the Air Force so I have lived in a lot of different states and locations in those states. I love see folks from Minot, ND down to Florida. I live in Bermuda, west to Oklahoma. Dad was from Arkansas, he called it home- so do I but I never lived there. That is where Grandma and Grandpa lived and we spent many a happy time on the farm in Newark off of county rd 69. Momma's parents lived in Dexter, MO. That is where we ran all over town with the cousins. I love writing to folks all over who love quilting. I do not have any close friends whom like to quilt. Thanks for being here.

Born in Jersey. Moved south to Florida when I was 2. Was in Tallahasse for a few years, then to Miami. Moved to Omaha my senior year, talk about culture shock! Met hubby, he was in Navy. Moved all over to different duty stations but always in the south. Retired in Pensacola FL. Hubby passed away. I built my current home and moved out in the country in Selma, AL. And that is whereni am today, right on the banks of the Alabama river and here I plan to stay.

I have lived in Michigan all of my life. In the spring, summer and fall, I live in southeastern Michigan, out in the country with farm fields on three sides of my property. In the summer, I live in the southeaster upper peninsula on the St. Mary's River-as I look across the river, I see St. Joseph's Island in Canada. It's a nice life!!!

I lived my whole life in Arkansas. I've visited lots of different, beautiful places, but can't imagine living any other place, even in this heat.

RDM 08-06-2011 08:12 AM

I'm in Seattle. Born here, but did live 2 years in San Diego. I'm fortunate there's great LQS's in area, but still miss "In The Beginning" shop. I too love to see where everyone is from. What a great community. Our weather has been very cool this year and feels like we just got summer in August. I wish I could temper the east/souths hot with our cool so we'd all be happy.

grammiepamie 08-06-2011 08:13 AM

I am a service brat too. Daddy was in the Air Force. Lived in Dayton, Ohio where I was born. Then Roswell,NM,Texas, So. Dakota, spent 4 years on Okinawa,Wyoming, Louisiana and since 1969 have lived in Florida. First in Tarpon Springs, and now outside of Jacksonville. I don't like moving anymore. LOL

Jim 08-06-2011 08:14 AM

I live in Bardstown KY...Home of Stephan Foster and noted as "The Bourbon Capital of the World"...surrounded by millions of barrels of bourbon and I don't drink...lol. I was born and raised in Louisville, KY. At 19, I bought my parents home(moved in when I was 3) married at 20 and lived happily there with my wife and children for another 30 years. I've been in Bardstown for 7 years now...It was a shock to move from a big city where everything is so close to a rural community where nothing is close...but, I love it here.
Here's a link to see our beautiful little town.

gollytwo 08-06-2011 08:14 AM

Born and bred NYC. Lived in the house I sold all my life til I came to NH
Moved to Keene, NH in 1996

genafan201 08-06-2011 08:29 AM

I was born in Pensacola, FL. When I was 7, we moved to Baton Rouge, LA, then a couple years later to Franklin, LA. At 16 back to Auburndale, FL, then married and to Rapid City, SD, Heber Springs, AR, back to Rapid, and finally here to Rogers, MN.

Funny thing...Although I've never lived either place, I've always considered Ashford, AL (where my mom is from), and Spring Hill, TN (where she lives now) "home". I guess for me, home is where my mom is :)

Joanne 08-06-2011 08:34 AM

I'm from Mass, born here, lived for a time in Fla. Love them both. My sister just called and wants me to figure out if it is better for her to live in New Hampshire, Rhode Island or Mass!! She is now in Conn and lost her job. She has to sell and move, but where should she go? Calls for some thinking to consider everything. What do you all think?

Ellen 08-06-2011 08:40 AM

I started out Freeport, ME raised, got stuffed into a Navy seabag and moved to Gitmo, Cuba for 4 yrs. Went to Key West, FL for 3 yrs, then Jacksonville where WE retired from Navy. Came here, just south of Tarpon Springs in 82 and lived here ever since. GrammiePamie, I'm at the top of the hill on Florida Ave. Do you ever come back?

annthreecats 08-06-2011 08:49 AM

I grew up in NJ. Moved away when I joined the Air Force. Lived in Las Vegas, NV, for a couple of years, Gillette, WY for a year, and then moved to Florida with then husband, this is his home. I have been in Florida for over 30 years and I guess this is where I will stay.

AZTeri 08-06-2011 08:52 AM

Here's the rundown:

Born - Cleveland, Ohio
joined AF - moved to TX/MS for training
first assignment - Omaha, Nebraska
overseas assignment to Lajes Field, Azores, Portugal
Got out, moved to St. Petersburg, FL
Reenlisted - moved to Dayton and Cedarville, Ohio
got out again (stayed reservist the entire time from 75-2000 though!) and moved with now ex dh to Oxnard, CA
Hated CA, got transferred back to Ohio
Lived in Dayton for the next 10 years, moved to...
Woodbridge VA when ex got an assignment at the Pentagon
He had a brain f**t and left, so I bought my own place in ...
Stafford VA while I worked in DC
Met current dh and moved to Tucson, where I currently am.

What's next? Only the Lord knows! He guides my steps, and for that I'm grateful!

ETA: Born East Cleveland, lived in Lakewood, moved to Cleveland Heights, where I graduated from high school in 74. Parents moved to Beechwood shortly there after until Dad retired and they went on the road. One thing I miss is not having a homestead to return to. I have family still in Cleveland, and I still consider that home, but it's not the same as those of you who have homes that have been in the family for generations.

May in Jersey 08-06-2011 08:59 AM

I was born in Brooklyn, NY and lived there until we moved to New Jersey in 1960 when I was 24 and married with 2 children. We live off GSP Exit 117 - gateway to The Jersey Shore although I live nearer to Raritan Bay than the Atlantic Ocean. We've been in this house for 51 years and it looks as if this is it.

We were considered nuts by my family when we moved from Brooklyn all those many years ago, my parents almost had heart attacks when we bought this house so far from B'klyn and with a $10 downpayment. All my younger sibilings still live there. Correction, a few years ago one of my brothers bought a home in PA but he lives half the week there and half the week at his girlfriend's house in Brooklyn. Scissor Queen 08-06-2011 09:05 AM

I was born in southeast Colorado and lived there until I was 22 and first hubby and I moved to southwest Kansas. I stayed in Kansas after he died and met and married my second hubby. We lived there until 3 years ago and then we moved to Oklahoma for 2 years. I hated it there so he found a job in northeast Colorado and we moved there. That turned out to be the worst job ever so he got his job in Oklahoma back but it's close enough to Kansas for us to live in Kansas and him to drive to work in Oklahoma. It makes both of us happy.

We also feel that way about the house that was orginally owned by my material grandparents back in Brooklyn, in a few years it will have been in the family for 100 years. After my grandparents died ownship passed to their son, my Uncle Tony, and now it belongs to one of his daughters and her DH. We were all upset when our his daughter, my cousin, said that they may be selling the 'family homestead' as her DH has retired and wants to move out of state.

When did "In the Beginning" close?? I used to go there whenever I visited DS when he lived in Belleview. And I haven't been back to Patchwork Press for a tour in years

Born in CT -- lived in ME as a child with my grandparents. Back to CT to raise 2 sons. Moved back to ME with DH#2 and now live on the coast in warm weathwer and WA in the winter

I love both coasts --

The only time I can say I've been homesick since I've lived in NY was during the Yanks/Philles World Series. I can't believe how depressed I got over it. I would love to have a second crack at it ;) See you in October!
