How many Quilters use Facebook? Do you follow certain Facebook pages or mainly keep in touch with family/friends?
I use facebook, but it got kind of overwhelming having to hide all the game things and all the craziness. I mainly use it to keep in touch with my long lost friends and family.

I am a dinasaur - never used facebook - not sure I want to try it. Afraid of the invasion of privacy.
I use Facebook for fried and family. I"like" quilting places too. Superior is on my "like" list!
I am a FB addict. :) I mainly use it to keep current with family and friends.
I'm one of those who wouldn't touch it with a 10' pole.
I do....it's really helped me connect with other quilters/guilds/groups. I love to see what others are doing and see trends from other areas of the country, plus it's exposure for our small quilt shop and a way to get our name out there too.

I love facebook. I use it to keep up with my family and friends back east. I am on it everyday and get to know what people who are close to me are up to. Anyone want to be friends just friend me and we can get aquainted. Just let me know that you are on this forum.

I use it to communicate with family and friends.
Only way to see what the family is up to and see pictures.
I'm on Facebook, and I use it more to keep in touch with quilters and quilt-related organizations than family right now. It seems more...immediate...than a web site or email newsletter.
And yes, I "like" Superior Threads. :) Janet |
Nope. Spend too much time just reading my mail and looking at this board!

I am on facebook everyday. It is my lifeline to my kids and grandkids since they are not close. I don't go everywhere on the site, too many viruses and such, but do enjoy a few games like bingo.
mostly family and friends... some games.... follow my fav. authors... never thought to check out quilting on there :)
Not me .. I have way to much internet "stuff". If I need to get a electronic message to family I send a group e-mail.
I am on Facebook mainly to keep in touch with family & friends. I also like a few quilty pages.
I'm on FB..for family and friends !!
I love Facebook. I have reconnected with many high school classmates by being on there. I "like" a couple local quilt shops but haven't joined any quilting groups on there. Figured the QB was enough! :) You just need to be a little cautious as with anything you do online.
Mainly for family and friends, but some others too :D:D:D
I have a love/hate relationship with fb. It's easy to get sucked into and spend way too much time on there. For those concerned about privacy- no one can see your "stuff" unless you want them to. It's more private than this board is, actually, because anyone in the world can access this board, but only those that you grant access to can see your information on facebook. You have the ability to decide your privacy settings. It is a really great way to stay in touch with friends and family, and an excellent way to network, promote businesses, events, etc.

Love your dog. My first dog when I bought my first house was a St. |
I use Facebook to keep up with my children. My daughter is always posting pictures of grandchildren and I love seeing them. I'm excited that Facebook is going to be using Skype.
We've Skyped for a few years now. I even read bedtime stories to my grandsons even though I'm in Ca. and they are in Virginia. My daughter sets up the laptop in my grandsons bedroom and then leaves the room so my grandson and I can talk for a while and then I read him a goodnight story. I sure works for us. |
I use facebook, but mostly to keep up with family and friends.
I use Facebook a little bit, both personally and for the business.
Maybe it's a generational thing... my kids could spend all day on it, but I can't imagine wanting to spend so much time that way. :?: |
I like the quilters and friends on Facebook.
I have a hard enough time keeping up with this board. Facebook is too time consuming.
We use facebook to promote our shop!

I only use it for friends and family that I've got scattered all over the world. I don't really see the point in it.

I love Facebook! It is so much fun to see photos of quilts that other professionals are making and to hear the latest news in the quilt industry. I keep up to date with friends and family and make new friends. I am very selective in who I "friend" and quickly "unfriend" people who just want to sell me something (that I don't want) and are there for no other purpose. I like finding out about new products that are useful (like Superior Threads!) and I follow a number of business and museum sites.
Facebook is also a good place to announce my latest in-print, blog, or website articles or books and a way to help promote businesses I like. It is a wonderful interface and not one that should cause anxiety or fear if a computer user has all the usual protection devices in place. |

I trust this Board implicitly and guess what? We aren't even famous! And we don't even care who is! We are all quilters and appreciate others beautiful work and encourage those that don't think their work is beautiful (which it is). What more could we ask for? Edie |
A friend of mine is on it all the time. I asked her why, and her response was to stay in touch. When asked, she couldn't even remember the last time she has spoken with one of her sisters. I get riled up when people use it as the be all and end all of communication. I have actually stopped patronizing a LQS because they only way they now communicate events is on FB. I asked about people that didn't use it and the response was that people should get "with it" and sign up. Much like twitter, I just don't get the point. If I want to talk to someone, I will call them. I will send an email. And, believe it or not, I still send real live actual letters via snail mail!!

As I live 3,500 miles away from my family and friends (especially my two children) Facebook is the first thing I check each day! I have made new friends in my new life here in Canada too and it helps also helps my family and friends to keep in touch with how things are going here and (in their words) has made new contacts and friends for them too.
Have no intention of going there, seems to me people put out to much info as is and the fact that they keep putting their childrns pictures out there, scares me to death. I am more of a private person and like it that way. - J.

Anyone on Facebook can set their own controls as to who has access to any of their information and can post only information that they want to share. I'm sure that new technology is scary to a lot of people who don't understand much about it. The largest group of people who use Facebook are over 55 years old, according to statistics - yes, the "baby boomers" like me!
It is wonderful that we have choices and that there are quilting lists and forums and sites and blogs and Twitter and so many ways for quilters to "connect" that we could all spend all day online and get NO quilting done! Love live the quilters and the friendships we form online and elsewhere. Cheers! |
I am. My DD made me an account, so I can "talk" to her without long distance calls. Love the pictures, ect!
I use FB for keeping in touch with family and friends. I don't understand all the games and don't have the patience to figure them out...would rather be quilting, knitting etc. I would however be interested in the quilt/thread offerings. Have become a thread junkie. Love the variegated threads.
I have reconnected with old friends, keep in touch with distant family and research all aspects of quilting which I find readily available on Facebook. Also it has been an amazing tool to find classmates for an upcoming Class Reunion!
