Word of the Day - Use it in a sentence
Here's a new amusement to lighten your day and make you sound even smarter than you already are!
I will post a word of the day. You are challenged to use it in a sentence. If you can manage to use it in a quilting related sentence - you will win the admiration of all on the board. Today's word of the day is Remora (REM-er-uh) 1. An obstacle, hindrance, or obstruction. 2. Any of several fishes of the family Echeneididae, having on the top of the head a sucking disk by which they can attach themselves to sharks, turtles, ships, and other moving objects. I'll go first. My quilt top keeps slipping and I can't find my clamps, but the remora is really helping out. Next ... |
It would be so helpful if I had and Echeneididae to keep my fabric from slipping..Diana

The Echeneididae fish family is also called a 'Pilot Fish', I'm sure the Remora of this story are the quilters who keep trying to catch one to keep their fabrics from slipping...
 |
Great idea Kristyna! I would have used remora so badly, as I guessed definition #1. My remora today was my computer today, as it piloted me over 6 hours to learn to post a picture. Obviously, I still don't have it down right, but I was successful. Now to have some remora for supper. Isn't fish good for the brain? lol m

I will train a remora to hang on to my money, I will keep it in my pocket, then maybe I can keep more of my money for stash!!!!!
I cannot wait until my children make enough money that they don't have to behave as though I were a shark and they were remora....(and those of you who know me, know that is even a play on words with my last name HA!!)

Many times at the sewing machine I use my knees as a remora to prevent the quilt sandwich from slipping down to the floor. |

I had one remora after another today, as I wanted to sew on my treadle, so it will wait till next week.
Using my seam ripper is a remora!...it sucks!:D
the remora in my eye is keeping me from seeing.
The newly fallen snow caused such a remora in town today. Sadly, I wasn't able to get to the quilt shop for the big sale.
this website is a
Remora to getting anything done! |
I need a remora to hold onto time. Time always seems to slip through my fingers.
Can not wait to find out what the new word for today is ..Diana
Sorry, Diana. I slept in.
Since it's Sunday we have TWO words today. Bonus points if you can use them both in the same quilty sentence. Leonine - LEE-uh-nyne - of, relating to, suggestive of or resembling a lion And Natheless - NAYTH-lis - Nevertheless |
My quilting partner's husband has a beautiful leonine head of head, natheless I think my gray-haired sweetie is much better looking.
I failed to adjust the tension on my bobbin thread and ended up with a leonine snarl on the bottom of my quilt. Naytheless, I continued to sew.
I haven't sewn the leonine baby tag toy nevertheless I have added it to my massive bucket list.
P.S. I really do want to try it and if you haven't seen it, it was posted a while back by Gailmitchel under Baby tag toy I think. |
I don't really have the time, but naytheless, I shall go look for that leonine lovely!
My material is creeping up like that of a Leonine but natheless, I will over come and be victorious !!! Diana
Krystyna, you should tell us if the word is a noun, adjective or adverb.

Today's word is SLIMSY - adjective - flimsy, frail
I like to pin my seams but sometimes the pins become a remora.
I was sewing along, my mind wandering over multiple thoughts, when WHAM, the needle hit a remora. Wouldn't you know, I had missed taking one pin out of the border of this quilt and didn't I just hit it?
Some of the fabric at the LQS looks slimsy.
Good work, ladies! I think that when you have slimsy fabric, you need a remora to hold it together!

I have a slimsy sewing budget right now. Too much Christmas spending!:)
Never try to sew a slimsy material without having a
Echeneididae nearby ..Diana |
I went to high school with Nicky Remora who wore socks in neon colors. (True!) He was far from slimsy, being built like a concrete block.
Fabric is a remora. Do I get the prize for shortest sentence?

if i take a quilt to mora, mn. in the a.m., and drive back with another, is that a "re-mora"? that's my slimsy story, and i'm stickin' to it. echeneidedae not!
I appliqued a remora on my quilt.
I'm working on a quilt that has a lot of slimsy material in it, so I have used interfacing on all the fabric to stablize it.
