Okay, they are nocturnal in their hunting habits, I get that, but would someone please tell Buddy that jumping on the bed at 4:30 am with that lizard you were lucky enough to catch, that is still alive and kicking, is not acceptable!!!!

Even the dog is complaining since the last lizard crawled under her, while she was peacefully sleeping, to get away from the cat.

And I don't appreciate having to get up and take a squirming, obviously ticked off, lizard outside to somewhere safe.

And yes, this is a frequent occurrence. I guess I should be grateful it's only lizards???

Chasing Hawk 09-18-2010 10:58 AM

At least Buddy brought you the "whole thing". Kola just leaves us innards and an occasional tail and bird feet.

Qbee 09-18-2010 10:59 AM

ROFL!!!! He's just SO excited to show off his catch... "Mommy..Mommy!!! Look what I got!!!"

Maybe I should be really thankful we don't have lizards! I wouldn't like that!

DebsShelties 09-18-2010 11:00 AM

But it was a present to you showing you how much you are loved.
Still ick though, one reason my cats are indoor cats.

craftybear 09-18-2010 11:00 AM

oh my, your cat was waking you up to tell you to get it out of the house, that wouldn't be good with a lizard in your bed sheets

I picked the last one up by the tail and was holding it up when I realized that at any moment it could just drop off, leaving me holding a tail only. Yikes!

Yeah, I've been treated to the partials remains of some critter or another too, but at least he's kept that stuff off the bed.

sewcrafty 09-18-2010 11:02 AM

 OMG!!! That's is not an acceptable way of waking up! Just remember he loves you and it must be very much!! I would have been in the hospital if a lizard was in my bed, no ifs ands or buts about it!!

Actually, it wakes my husband up, who then wakes me up and I take care of it. Since the cat is also a male, I suspect a macho thing going on here.

Love the picture!

Luv Quilts and Cats 09-18-2010 11:23 AM

Maybe you could try leaving your cat indoors for the night? That way, no surprises at night. You'll still get them, but during daylight hours! My cat is an indoor cat, as were the two I had before her. Just too many things out there, animal and human, that can harm a cat.

grammiepamie 09-18-2010 11:28 AM

Dear Buddy,Your mom has asked for someone to speak to you about your nocturnal escapades. You must learn that you cannot get on the bed with something alive in your mouth. This action is not proper manners for such a big boy as yourself. I recommend that you find yourself a nice out of the way place to store your tokens of affection until everyone in the house has gotten up and had their coffee first. What did you say? Oh you will do that then? Well good boy. Here let me scratch your tummy. Good boy!!!!!!!!! Mine does this kind of thing also.LOL

Ramona Byrd 09-18-2010 11:34 AM

Think of all the insects that lizards eat!

When my daughter's DH was stationed in Hawaii, since she's asthmatic, they were told to let the geckos run free in their house
instead of spraying poisons. They got used to them, but it was a downer when one would drop on the dinner table with them to check out any possible insects in their salads.

Enjoy your Geckos, tell the cats they belong and go hunting mice instead.

amandasgramma 09-18-2010 11:35 AM

Well -- if you find that "cat whisperer", send him/her my way!!! We've had chipmunks, mice, and birds brought in....it's NOT fun!

nativetexan 09-18-2010 03:02 PM

Agh, right now i can't read the posting, my cat is sitting in front of the screen!!!

KarenSimon 09-18-2010 03:13 PM

We were having trouble with our cat doing the same thing. For a week, I wouldn't let her nap in the day time. Everytime she would lay down, I'd set her up on her feet. At night she was so tired, she slept all night and didn't roam.

luv-e 09-18-2010 03:32 PM

Our cat use to bring my mother snakes!!!!!! You always had to look out BEFORE you went out the sliding glass door. I hate snakes and that is why mine stayed in. lol Reminds me of the commercial about the lady looking fro her cat @ nite and a racoon comes in the house instead of a cat. lol lol lol

Are you for hire???? lol lol lol

Naturalmama 09-18-2010 03:48 PM

Oh this is too funny!!!

littlehud 09-18-2010 07:11 PM

Mine are all indoor cats so I don't have that problem. But I can imagine my reaction if one of mine bought me a lizard. It wouldn't be good.

sandpat 09-18-2010 07:20 PM

What I want to know is who lets that cat in the house at night so he can put the lizards in your bed??? Or does he catch those inside your house???? EEEKKKKKK!!!!!

My cats said to tell him to cut it out...they don't want me to know that cats actually "hunt" anything. The only effort my lazy cats put forth is to stand by their bowls and beg..loudly..for me to provide for them...

wolfkitty 09-18-2010 07:34 PM

Mine used to hunt during the day, but once brought a bleeding (dead) pidgeon, and the next time, half a young rabbit. Yuk! We had a little chat after that!

Just a solution for a night time bed. Buddy, if you continue to play at night you will be made to entertain the bird.

Kola has a companion, we think he lives next door. He comes over to dine and sometimes serenade Kola. A while back the food dish outside was empty (he ate it all earlier), he must have thought we ran out of food and couldn't share with him. So he lugged a freshly killed bunny about 3 months old up onto the shelf where the food dish sits.

Kola will knock at the door if she has caught us dinner, she will come in and call us to eat. If we see the feast she has brought, we thank her for it, pretend we eat and then throw the little body away. If we aren't home at the time, we usually only get the stomach and a foot if we are lucky.

We have a dog door, which he mastered at an early age. We cannot put the heavy wood slider over the door, which would lock Buddy in for the night, because the guy who installed the door didn't allow for the sill lip so the slider doesn't fit. We managed to find an alternative slider but the tenacious little bugger "worked" it off, several times, really loudly, at night, just as we were drifting off to sleep.

I'm trying to talk my DH into KarenSimon's suggestion of waking him up when he tries to go to sleep during the day. He's retired, I'm still working, so he'd have to be the bad guy, but they nap together during the day so what do you think my chances are?

quiltluvr 09-18-2010 11:27 PM

What's that saying??? The early cat gets the lizard??

The first thing that comes to mind is why not shut the bedroom door?

Ramona Byrd 09-18-2010 11:58 PM

My Grandma told of during the 1930s depression, she had a cat that knew something was going on, and for a long time, nearly every morning Grandma would find a freshly dead rabbit or groundhog on the back porch. She really did baby that cat, it was a darn good provider, and it lasted till the garden stuff came in.

I suspect that if a rabbit would come in my house, Fredrica, the white Persian, would walk around it trying to see if it wanted to play, while Koko, the half Siamese, would leap over her and kill and eat part of it, then deposit the remains in my lap while I was reading a book. He always wants me to join in on his games, and loves to see me toss little mouse toys around. I would toss more than toys around if I found a half rabbit or mouse in my lap!

Because if you shut the door, they we claw at the door, the door jamb until they either bored a hole in the door or you open it. Which ever comes first.

CarrieAnne 09-19-2010 07:23 AM

But he is SO cute! Im so glad mine dont bring lizards, but I have stepped on a few dead mouses.....REALLY bad with bear feet!

Ever tried to go to the bathroom and shut the door? They stick their paws under the door, body slam it, yowl at you. Buddy considers that primo petting time because obviously - you're not going anywhere!

your Buddy is really cute, I love the picture. one suggestion to keep you cat indoor at night is to not feed him during the day at all. you call him in around dinner time, feed him and shut him indoors for the night. it worked with my nieces cats which usually disappeared at night or got hit by cars. once she used that method the vet suggested, she never lost any cat and they never brought their prey indoors.

litacats 09-20-2010 03:49 AM

many years ago I was in hospital for a month and the cat started to bring rats into my DH everynight and wake him up to let him know what a good boy he was, DH would say good cat charley eat him up charley and he would.
1 night when DH was visiting me he took the rat into our neighbour and woke him up, he was quite amused by that haveing heard from DH what the cat was doing. when I came home from hospital I found lots of half eaten rats under the bed. ugg not a pretty sight to come home to from hospital to that,

Lyn 09-20-2010 04:34 AM

It was 4:00am and my brother and wife were sound asleep. My brother's Maine Coon came in the doggy door dragging a dead woodchuck and deposited it on my SIL chest. It was still warm. She let out a scream that I think I heard in NH. They live in OR.

sandpat 09-20-2010 05:36 AM

Oh gosh....I think I heard her!! Too funny, but I'm thrilled that wasn't me!

dphelps 09-20-2010 06:11 AM

This is so funny. Our cat once liked to bring field mice to my dad every chance she got. She was so proud of herself and of course he praised her.Yuk!
