i bet it was just a joke to keep others away. she wouldn't have kept them in with sewing supplies if they were really for toenails. I think she was a genius to think that way. if they were used for toenails, i'd be like...icky, no way. and put them back. My son learned at a very early age about sewing scissors. he was in preschool one day and refused to use orange handle scissors. He knew they were sewing scissors.

For many years,my family has known that if you touch my ginghers,I'll cut off your arms at the elbows. As the kids grew up,at quilty gatherings, they would borrow my BFF's shears, instead of using mine.

I don't understand not having another pair of Ginghers for them to use. I have several pair of heavy metal Ginghers and I don't think they are the best ones I have. They are rather inexpensive now anyway. Heck, I have Dovo scissors in the desk drawer. The only scissors I have that are special to me are my hand sewing Nogent scissors. The ones I use the most in my sewing room are Havel's serrated blade scissors. They cut exactly like Karen Buckley scissors. I have hers too.

I put my Ginghers in the kitchen drawer. Too heavy and didn't cut as clean as the new scissors I bought at Walmart. The Clover scissors are wonderful. I have all brands of scissors except the Nogent. Those are a heirloom item for sure! One pair cost as much as many sewing machines. LOL

What a hoot! Smart woman to mark those shears for "toenails." I think it's safe to say it's a joke, people. We do what it takes to protect our sacred objects!

Wipe them with alcohol and try them on fabric. Alcohol kills all germs.

I wonder if I could run them through the dishwasher on the sanitize cycle... Nah. Maybe soak them in alcohol for a few days. You know I maybe should take a closer look at the other 3 pair.

They could be contaminated with toe nail fungus. Spores can hide. But I like the thought that it was better than a do not use or keep out sign.

Best keep out sign I ever saw......so yucky........

That is too funny-no matter the stories we make up to fit the apparent situation. I have two pair of
Ginger scissors-large and small. I keep them in a drawer with instructions not to use them. Then I have several pair of Fiskers scissors, also large and small, that are general use. I cut fabric, paper and template plastic with them. When they get dull I just sharpen them. I do not buy the idea that cutting paper dulls scissors or my rotary cutter and more than cutting fabric. Cutting the template plastic does dull them. But, it does need to be cut with something that is precise. I do not abuse them and expect others to do the same.
