    even the townies can't drink the water. they doctor it with minute quantities of bleach to kill bacteria.

    that will end the city of puerto plata. the villages will be another day.

    i can't impress upon you enough with how clean everything is. you might expect poor people to be less concerned with their surrounding, but they pick up every piece of paper or other debris they see. their clothing is ill-fitted and poor looking. the clothing shops look like dollar stores, really. that's all they can afford. but everything has been washed to death because they only have a few things. there are hardly any plastic bags, by the way. they use mesh or net or fabric. tourist trade is something else.

    I finally found your pictures! Thanks for sharing. I would share some from our great cruise along Europe's Atlantic coast in Oct, but I downloaded them into computer, deleted from camera, then computer crashed before I backed them up on portable hard drive. AAAAAARRRGGGGH. Oh well - great memories.

    And K3N - I didn't see you waving from the beach???????????

    I guess our idea of middle class is much different...and we can learn a lot from them about being cleaner with our streets!!!
