I remember and am ashamed I laughed at those poor unfortunate people whose desperate situation drove them to humiliate themselves on public television. Well that was vitriolic!. But in retrospect you have to rank that show with those today who use the poor and unfortunate to gain TV ratings. Surely we are better than that.

Only time I remember hearing about that show was in the movie "La Bamba". When Richie Valens bought his Mom a house, she said she felt like she was on "Queen for a Day".

I googled it.
Queen for a Day on Radio from 1945-57
On TV from 1956-64.
I listened to it on the radio with my mom and later watched it during the summers when home from school.

Yep, I'm with you all remembering these shows very well plus many more oldies. Those truly were the days.

Linkletter's show was "People are Funny". Loved the kids' segment. One of his favorite questions to them was what did your mom tell you not to say. Got hilarious responses!

I remember watching Queen for a Day when I was a young Mother, it was on TV in the early 60s. I remember Art Linkletter's shows too. Also Arthur Godfrey. I will be 70 YO soon.

My mom was a runner-up and got a new refrigerator (I think, maybe it was a washer) She was really excited about it. I think that it was when the show was fairly new on TV. We lived in the valley and she went with a group from church. I didn't think we were poor... there were just a lot of us.
