Sometimes your ISP (Internet Service Provider) will sell email addresses to vendors.

I have not seen any messages like you have described since I have joined this board.

One way to protect your information is to:
1) Get a good anti-virus protection on your computer
2) Have it scheduled to run at least 2x per week
3) Keep the software updated. Computer hackers find new ways to hack systems.... so it is very important to keep your anti-virus software up-to-date.

I hope this is helpful.
Only one minor change to your advise: Anti-virus should be run at least once every day that you use the computer, and should scan every email that you get for viruses as well.

This is spam. You have made the right choice to delete.

The only problem with this is that they then KNOW that they have a valid email. You are likely to get more email and from them and from other spammers.

The best thing to do is delete them and report them as spam.

Unless you want a whole lot more spam don't do that. A reply lets them know they have a valid email and even if you don't buy anything they'll sell your email to kingdom come and back!!!

You probably don't want to change your address but there is less chance of someone randomly generating your address if you put some numbers into it.

You don't have to be a genius to come up with [email protected] (or whatever) if you are desperate enough to think that sending out a million emails will be a good way to part people from their money.

Some email companies are better than others in filtering out these unsolicited scam messaqes- I never get any on my gmail account, for example, but get them everywhere else, including at work where our security is pretty tight.

Recently read that Gmail has great spam filters.....so I'm thinking of keeping an addy there & switching if/when the Spam gets much worse.

Do you use e-mail? If you forward something to someone, and they forward it to someone...pretty soon strangers have your e-mail address. When I forward an e-mail, I always make sure I delete any names and e-mail addresses on the page. When I send a joke on to many people, I use BCC (which stands for Blind Copy Sent, I don't know where the other C came from) and their e-mail addresses do not show up to each other.

BCC stands for Blind Carbon Copy. CC stands for Carbon Copy.
