I have six kids and a very dynamic household. Things are constantly in flux.....every kid is creative and my house looks like it. My husband says that the "messier" the house is when he comes home the happier he knows everyone is! Every morning each child has chores to complete, So at least ONCE a day we know we have a clean house. It may not be "perfect" when we go to bed, but it is scrubbed every morning.
This develops a good work ethic and the knowledge that if you get the "work" done quickly you can settle down to what you really want to do. It has also helped develop organizational skills. The teenagers have learned that if they tidy up and/or do some of their chores before bed time, they don't have so much to face in the morning.
However, I definitely do not obsess on having a display worthy home. When these kids are grown I don't want them to remember "Mom always kept a perfect house" I want them to remember all of the love and fun memories we created together. Rarely is my house picture perfect. I feel sad for the poster who said disparaging, judgmental things about people who post pictures of less than perfect houses. Be kind!

When I read "quit quilting and clean house" I assumed someone else was having company today.
I try to invite a group of friends 3-4 times a month just to force me to clean house. Why clean otherwise? Gets DH to vacuum too. Why keep the house spotless? My 20-yo grandson moved in with us last summer. His parents are both extreme neatniks and a dust bunny would be terrified to enter their house. My grandson is amused by the messes that appear and disappear in my house. He always knows when company is coming.

That was another life ago and my 2nd husband is a saint. I love my crazy, slightly chaotic, slightly messy, clean once a day, FULL of LOVE life! LOL
I am glad you are happier now.

It sounds like some of us are simply getting older, stiffer, etc., and find cleaning harder to do now. I try to keep the laundry done, the bathrooms clean, the furniture dusted, and meals on the table. The dust bunnies and cobwebs are on their own; my strength just doesn't go that far any more.
