GE probably makes thousands of parts, there was probably a packet right beside this one specifically for GE and Hotpoint

I had a coat once that had on the care instructions
    "do not boil"

It usually is a translation issue, since the products are usually made out of the US along with the printing. The company may have technical writers, but obviously no grammar check.

I've noticed more stories in print as well where there is not a grammar check, either in hard copy or online. A sentence can contain the wrong spelling of a word and/or be missing a word and it still goes out. They just use Spellcheck and let it go.

There are several shows on TV which have segments for "bloopers", I'm thinking of Ellen DeGeneres as an example as well as TV bloopers.

Glad it worked for you. It probably is made in China. Strange.

If I were you next time you go to that store check to see if there is an item made for your stove. GE probably makes parts for a great many brands and has one that is better suited for your stove.

Jay Leno used to have a spot on his show "Bought at the 99cent store." And everything that he showed that was not packaged in the US had some very unique wording. One item I remember was the American Indian with a machine gun. And another item he read the instructions they made no sense.

I'm sure they do make for your stove its just that this one is made for different ones. Most companies make for more than one brand. I understand, I probably would have seen the GE and thought the same thing. That's why things that I'm not familiar with, I read all over to make sure I get what I need. But like most, that doesn't always work. I'm sure the store will take it back.
