Recently I ran across a book that is new to me, but definitely not new. I managed to get it from the library, just to see what information it has.

Weldon's Encyclopedia of Needlework
(no copyright date)

has a section on quilting, but also on embroidery, lace, smocking, etc. I'm finding it interesting reading up on all the different techniques that were common practice 'back in the day.'

Do any of you have a book that you would recommend for quilting and/or needlework of any kind?

there is a Beeton's Book of Needlework that is fun to flip through. (originally published in 1870)
http://books.google.com/books?id=lxH...over&dq=Beeton's+Book+of+Needlework&hl=en&ei=W2CLToLEN4yltwf-g5GwAw&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CDUQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q&f=false

just found this one:
Method for teaching plain needlework in schools, by a lady [signed M.E.B.]. By M E. B, Method (1861)
http://books.google.com/books?id=w58...page&q&f=false

(sorry - you are probably not looking for this kind of stuff..)

Yes, I am! I very much enjoy going through the older books and seeing how things were done before the machines did all our embroidery, etc. Thanks for the links!
