I'm going to give this a try. If it doesn't work I might have to give the magnesium a try.

I am going to try this for my DH. He has leg cramps so very bad at night and we have tried everything for them eating banannas, drinking water, even medication and nothing seems to work.. I will let you know if this works for him.. anything is worth a try, it just kills me to see him hurt so bad..

At best it will help.

At worst, it will delay finding some other treatment and do no harm.

Better than the odds with a lot of prescribed medications.

Craftybear, I would love to be able to eat bananas. They have me on a low potassium diet because of my failing kidneys. Some of favorite foods are high in potassium.

Sorry Doreen-wish you could eat bananas. My father has had the most horrible leg cramps for years, they would be so bad he would roll around on the floor in agony. If he eats a banana it raises his potassium and his cramps go away. I have Restless leg syndrome, ended up having to take a muscle relaxant at night so I could sleep. Eating a banana helps with daytime cramping in my feet and legs. (Soap in bed never helped either of us.)
Almost forgot, for years dad got a prescription for quinine and it worked. Old doc retired and newer docs won't prescribe it, they say just drink soda that has quinine in it. Dad would be in bathroom all night if he drank enough soda for it to help.

My DH used to take potassium to prevent leg cramps, but now has so much trouble keeping his potassium at the correct level amount that the doctor forbids his eating high potassium foods. When he sweats during the day he will cramp during the night unless he drinks at least 40-50 ounces of water plus his coffee, etc. For my Restless Leg Syndrome I take Mirapex which is usually prescribed for Parkinson's Disease, but it really controls the RLS which nothing else had done. A regular godsend.

Another item that works is using rubbing alcohol, if you can handle the brief overwhelming scent. Rub your legs down with it before going to bed, this is what I use when I have been out in the heat working hard.
