Andy is beautiful! Thanks for this useful list.

I want to add a word of caution about fleece, however. One of my crazy cats got nervous during a thunderstorm and chewed holes in a fleece blanket that was in our dog's kennel. Pogo retreated into the kennel because of the thunder when we were away. Oddly, both cats and the dog tend to sleep in the kennel at times, voluntarily, though never together. Anyway, something got into Pogo's head about that fleece being comforting to chew on and she ingested an incredible amount of it, and then threw most of it up. At first we had no idea what we were seeing - what was navy blue that she could possibly have gotten hold of? Finally it dawned. She came through without consequence, but we can't leave fleece where she can get to it. Shelter animals may be similarly stressed, and even if this behavior is rare, it's best to be aware of the possibility. I've been reading that fleece is damaging to the environment, in any case.

Unfortunately, the circumstances of how the animals are abandoned/found stresses our animals....they are definitely stressed. They cannot possibly get the attention we would love to see them get. Yes they are fed and out of the weather but beyond that, it is impossible with the amount of animals we shelter. A lot of effort is made to get them out of the shelter to a rescue or an adoptive situation. I see holes in everything, fleece as well as cotton, as well as parts of plastic toys that have probably been eaten.

The acrylic does not seem to be any more affected than other fabrics. They do get changed often so hopefully that minimizes the amount ingested. There is no easy answer except for reducing pet overpopulation, otherwise, we are just chasing our tail so to speak.
